Hatching a good move: A shopkeeper arranging eggs for sale at a wholesale shop in Kuala Lumpur. PETALING JAYA: A new grade of chicken eggs will be introduced to help ensure supply security and price stability, according to the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry. The ministry said industry players had agreed to the initiative, and that the special grade of eggs would be offered at a more affordable price. 'The public can also purchase chicken eggs at competitive prices through the Agro Madani Sales and Rahmah Sales programmes, which are widely implemented across the country. 'This includes at sales premises of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority and the Farmers' Organisation Authority,' it said in a statement. The ministry also said the decision was made considering the confidence in the industry's ability to ensure stable and sufficient production of chicken eggs. 'Between February 2022 and December last year, the government spent nearly RM2.5bil to cover egg subsidies. 'This is a substantial amount to assist the public and industry during the pandemic crisis and global supply chain disruptions. 'Now, with the market conditions becoming more stable, these subsidies are being restructured to be more comprehensive and focused,' it added.

Malaysia Fest Expo Serves As Gateway To Grow Local Product Market In Singapore
By Nur Ashikin Abdul Aziz SINGAPORE, July 31 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's agri-food exports to Singapore are expected to rise further beyond the nearly RM11 billion recorded last year, driven by increased participation of entrepreneurs in events such as Malaysia Fest 2025, which kicked off on Thursday. Malaysia's High Commissioner to Singapore, Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar, said the expo—now in its eighth edition—provides an ideal platform for Malaysian entrepreneurs to expand their market reach in Singapore, with support from the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA). bootstrap slideshow 'The value of Malaysia's agri-food exports to Singapore grew from RM8.5 billion in 2022 to nearly RM11 billion in 2024. 'This reflects strong interest and high demand for Malaysian products in the Singaporean market, particularly in food, tropical fruits, and health-related items,' he said at the official opening of Malaysia Fest 2025 on Thursday. Azfar also noted that the hosting of Malaysia Fest holds special significance this year, coinciding with Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, and serves as a strategic platform to showcase the richness of local products, cultural heritage, and the country's unique tourism offerings on the international stage. Organised by MegaXpress International in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security through FAMA, this year's expo features 321 booths—the highest in its history—with participation from 220 entrepreneurial companies. In addition to agri-food products, the expo also features tourism packages, cosmetics, and apparel. FAMA Chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli said the agency has observed increasing popularity of Malaysian exotic agri-food products among Singaporean consumers based on their participation in the expo.

Govt To Restructure Chicken Egg Subsidies Starting August 1
The government will implement a restructured chicken egg subsidy scheme beginning tomorrow (August 1), adopting a phased and targeted approach to enhance sustainability and deliver greater impact, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) announced today. The move aligns with efforts to maintain supply security and price stability. As part of the initiative, the industry has agreed to introduce Special Grade Eggs, which will be offered at more affordable prices. Consumers can also continue to access competitive pricing through Agro MADANI and Rahmah Sale programmes at the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) and Farmers' Organisations Authority (LPP) outlets nationwide. KPKM revealed that the government spent nearly RM2.5 billion subsidising chicken egg prices between February 2022 and December 2024, a temporary measure introduced to cushion the public and industry during the COVID-19 pandemic and global supply chain disruptions. 'With the market now stabilising, the subsidy scheme has been restructured to become more targeted and comprehensive,' the ministry said. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will continue strict enforcement under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 to prevent profiteering and price manipulation, ensuring fair consumer pricing. 200kg Galangal confiscated at Bukit Kayu Hitam border
BUKIT KAYU HITAM: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), here, has foiled an attempt to bring in 200kg of galangal without a valid permit. In a statement, today, the agency stated that the seizure, worth RM3,200, was made during an inspection of a container at 9.40pm yesterday. Checks found that 200kg of galangal (Alpinia Galanga) from a total agricultural load of over 44,000kg did not have a Marketing Certification 3P from the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA). The galangal was subsequently seized for further action. Importing agricultural produce without valid certification or permit is an offence under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 [Act 728]. AKPS said it remains committed to tightening control at all border entry points to ensure biosecurity and curb smuggling activities that threaten the agriculture industry and national food security.
