In a meeting with Integrity Commission Chairman Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, Al-Sudani emphasized the need for robust oversight to ensure the elections reflect the true will of the Iraqi people, according to a statement from his media office. He called for closer coordination among the Integrity Commission, the Federal Board of Supreme Audit, and the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to monitor and respond to potential violations. Al-Lami confirmed that the commission had completed a comprehensive review and assembled specialized teams to detect misuse and uphold fair competition among candidates.

Gross Negligence: Iraqi MPs urge investigation into Baiji refinery explosion

In a formal request, Committee Chairman MP Majid Shingali urged the Federal Board of Supreme Audit, the Integrity Commission, and the Public Prosecution to pursue accountability, describing the incident as a result of 'gross negligence.' The committee also pointed to environmental reports citing unsafe levels of toxic chemicals around the refinery and flagged the facility's Hot Oil system as 'dangerously outdated,' attributing the explosion in Unit 109 to a major leak caused by poor maintenance. According to the committee, the blast caused injuries, fatalities, and significant infrastructure damage. It urged authorities to act swiftly to identify those responsible, stressing long-standing issues of mismanagement and repeated safety violations.

Iraq reviews measures to increase oil, gas production
Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, chaired a meeting on Sunday with representatives of foreign oil firms operating in Iraq to review measures to maintain and raise oil and gas production rates. The Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, and officials from Iraq's Federal Board of Supreme Audit, the General Commission for Taxes, and the Employment Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs attended the meeting, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The meeting addressed important issues, including approaches to stop gas flaring, the development of Iraq's oil industry, work permits, and social security. In order to maintain and raise production rates, Al-Sudani emphasized the necessity of removing barriers to project implementation and reaffirmed that the government prioritizes and views the relationship with these businesses as strategic. By adopting innovative technologies, boosting facility performance, and putting a stop to gas flaring, Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government's commitment to increasing production and reservoir operational effectiveness. Al-Sudani stressed the significance of optimizing the use of associated gas for the production of electricity and to sustain key industries such as steel, fertilizer, and petrochemicals. The Iraqi prime minister ordered a reevaluation of the licensing rounds 15 years after they were first introduced in light of advances in the oil and gas industry. Al-Sudani also emphasized the government's efforts towards developing infrastructure, strengthening security at facilities, and improving the business climate for oil businesses.
