202 female computer teachers under FDE jobless

ISLAMABAD: Around 202 female computer teachers working in girls' schools and colleges under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) have been rendered jobless after the completion of a project, it was learnt on Saturday. The computer learning project was started during the last PML-N tenure of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif. According to the official notification available with Business Recorder, the Universal Service Fund's computer labs project, which aimed to provide Information Technology (IT) education to girls, officially ended on June 30, 2025, terminating the teachers' contracts. The affected teachers have appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for extending job contract or employment on a regular basis. They recounted their successful contributions to the project and seek urgent intervention to resolve the matter on humanitarian grounds. The 202 teachers were hired to enhance digital literacy in Islamabad's schools and colleges. The notification states that decision has been conveyed to the concerned teachers with appreciations and best wishes for their priceless contribution to successfully complete project titled 'Sustainability of Computer Labs' established by the Universal Service Fund. 'As the said project has now been successfully completed on 30.06.2025, the requirement for teaching services under this initiative has ceased. Accordingly, the services of the teachers engaged under this project will no longer be required with effect from 01.07.2025,' notification further stated. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

The admission drive of federal government educational institutions which is managed by the Federal Directorate of Education will begin from March 17. Under the new policy, the admission registration form and interviews for Early Childhood Education (ECE-1) will begin from March 17. The entrance tests for Prep Class (Early Childhood Education-2) will be held on April 8. The heads of all institutions have been instructed to form admission committees. According to the details, the date for submitting registration forms in model schools and colleges (urban and rural areas) working under the administration of the Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad, has been set as March 28. As per the new policy, the size of classes will be limited to forty students during this drive. In case of more admissions, students will be admitted in evening classes. For the first time in the history of the Federal Directorate of Education, classes are also being started for Early Childhood Education (ECE-1). Interviews for which will begin from March 17, while the age limit for this class has been set at three to four years. The entrance test for Early Childhood Education (ECE-2)/Prep Class will be held on April 8 and the age limit has been set at four to five years. Thirty children will be able to take admission in Early Childhood Education classes. A general relaxation of three months has been given in the age limit for Prep, Class One and Early Childhood Education till March 31, 2025. Admissions for Early Childhood Education will be conducted by the Federal Directorate of Education in the institution nearest to the residence. Preference will be given to residents of the nearest union council of the institution in admissions. The date of the entrance test for Class I has been fixed as April 9, while the age limit for Class I children has been fixed as five to six years. Prep and first grade classes will be held from April 17. According to the admission policy, students in classes 6 and 9 will be able to take admission in nearby institutions on a cluster basis, however, students wishing to take admission outside the cluster will be able to take admission on an open merit basis based on an entrance test. Siblings of children studying in an educational institution will be given priority in admissions, however, changing institutions during the session will be discouraged. Admission schedule has also been issued for grades 2 to 9 as per the capacity of educational institutions. Registration forms will be issued from March 17, which can be submitted to the relevant institutions by March 28. The entrance test for grade 6 will be held on April 7, while the tests for grades 2 to 5, 7 or 9 will be held on April 9. Admission forms will be issued and submitted to successful candidates from April 14 to 16. Classes for newly admitted children will be started from April 17.
