Firm to make cables for Sabah, Sarawak markets

Kota Kinabalu: A new cable manufacturing facility is set to create employment opportunities for Sabah bumiputeras across various skill levels when it opens next year. Federal Power Sdn Bhd Chairman Datuk Seri NW Hisham Abdul Wahab said the planned manufacturing plant will serve the Sabah and Sarawak markets, as well as Brunei and Indonesia. Advertisement 'For those without the necessary skills, we will send them for internal training at our Federal Power facility in Selangor to gain experience,' he told reporters following a courtesy visit to the Head of State Tun Musa Aman, here, Monday. Hisham said high transportation costs from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah have been a challenge. 'The establishment of this cable manufacturing plant will help reduce transportation costs and subsequently lower market prices,' he said. The visit was aimed at briefing Musa about Federal Power Sdn Bhd's proposal to expand its business operations into Sabah. Datuk Seri NW Hisham Abdul Wahab, chairman of Federal Power Sdn Bhd, stated that this manufacturing plant is scheduled to open next year, serving Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia. 'For those without skills, we will send them for internal training at Federal Power's factory in Selangor to gain experience. Transportation costs from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah are relatively high. Therefore, opening a factory here will help reduce logistics costs and subsequently lower market prices,' he told the media after paying a courtesy visit to the Head of State, Tun Musa Aman, on Monday. The visit aimed to inform and explain to Tun Musa about Federal Power's proposal to expand its business to Sabah. The company specializes in manufacturing various types of cables and conductors that meet diverse needs, specifications, and international standards such as British Standards (BS), Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Malaysian Standards (MS) and Brunei Standards (DES).
