Tributes pour in for Ger Bennett who was a large character in the Wexford GAA community

Sympathy was extended to his family through a statement on the Ferns Camogie Lgfa Facebook account, who mapped out his contribution to the local teams. "Ger was a very valued member of Ferns GAA club for many years and served as Vice Chairman, Bord na Nog Chairman, treasurer, selector, coach, and kit man with senior hurlers. He will be sorely missed,' they wrote. In a statement posted by the Ferns GAA Facebook account, they said that he an made an undeniable mark on the sporting community. "Ger was a larger than life character whose dedication to our club saw him serve in a number of roles over the years, at committee level and with various squads too. Always helpful, always there, and always quick with a smart remark, he is already sadly missed and he will be forever remembered,' they said. They added that as a mark of respect, all club activities will be suspended until after the funeral on Wednesday, July 17 at 2 p.m. in St Aidan's Church, Ferns. Mourners took to to leave messages of condolences and kind words about his gentle character. One mourner wrote: 'Ger was a pillar in the community and will be solely missed, a gentleman with a warm welcome and good humour.' Another wrote: 'I am heartbroken Ger was a pure gentleman and was a great boss to me for the many years I worked for Ger. He will be sadly missed.' A further tribute read: 'What memories we have of Ger. Many hours he spent in field he treated everyone with kindness. He will be missed by all. What is Ferns loss is Heaven's gain.' Beloved husband of Stasia, loving father of Cathriona, Gearóid, and Cathal and predeceased by his parents Maggie and Jack, and his father-in-law Aidan, he will be deeply missed by brothers Michael and Robert, his sisters Marian and Catherine, his mother-in-law Francie, his adored grandchildren Jack and Ciarán, son-in-law Teddy, daughters-in-law Carly and Kirstie, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends.
