Ferris Bueller's Day Off star Mia Sara is unrecognizable after ditching Hollywood for poetry... see her now

Much has changed with Mia Sara since her star-making turn in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986). The 58-year-old actress is best known for playing Sloane Peterson, the raven-haired girlfriend of Matthew Broderick's title character who accompanies him and his friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) as they skip school for an adventure in Chicago. Mia (born Mia Sarapochiello) had already made a splash playing Princess Lili in Ridley Scott's Legend, opposite star Tom Cruise, but the promise of her early film roles mostly failed to translate into juicier roles, and instead she spent much of the 1990s in largely ignored low-budget films. The film and television star had few roles throughout the 2000s and early 2010s, before she went as far as to step away from Hollywood with a hiatus that began in 2013 and lasted 11 years, during which she focused on other interests, like writing poetry. But Mia — who now looks unrecognizable — recently made her return to acting opposite Tom Hiddleston in Mike Flanagan's film The Life Of Chuck, which premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released in theaters in June. Now, as she makes her triumphant return to Hollywood, takes a look at what Mia Sara looks like now. Mia looks shockingly different from how she did when she had her best-known roles in the mid-'80s through early '90s. The actress now sports a chic salt-and-pepper bob that's a significant change from the lustrous brunette tresses she once displayed. She made a splash in June when she walked the red carpet at the Life Of Chuck premiere in a ruffled black blouse and a figure-hugging medium-length skirt. Mia also appeared to have added some tattoos that were part of her look during her earliest successes. Born Mia Sarapochiello in Brooklyn, New York, she was just 16 when she landed her big break as a princess to Cruise's man from the woods on Legend. The movie was anchored by Hollywood heavyweights — not just Cruise, but also superstar director Ridley Scott — yet still turned out to be a box office flop. But just one year later, Mia became a star across America when she starred as Sloane Peterson, the girlfriend of mischievous high school senior, Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick). Ferris gets his famous day off by pretending to be sick, and manages to get Sloane to join him by feeding the school the fake story that her grandmother has died. Sara also starred in the 1994 film Timecop, but she had few high-profile projects through the rest of the '90s and the 2000s; pictured on the set of Timecop Upon its release, Ferris Bueller's Day Off became a thunderous box office success, earning $70 million with just a $5 million budget, and remains one of the best-loved high school comedies to ever made. Shortly after the movie came out, Mia showered praise on both Cruise and Matthew Broderick, whom she noted 'had much more experience' than she did. 'Tom was dedicated and I learned a lot of good work habits from him. And I respected Matt because I had seen him on Broadway. He was one of my favorites,' she told UPI. In the 1990s she featured in such movies as the Melanie Griffith drama A Stranger Among Us - directed by Sidney Lumet of 12 Angry Men fame - as well as the smash hit Jean-Claude Van Damme action movie Timecop. She continued acting on TV Programs like CSI: NY and movies like Dorothy & The Witches of Oz until 2013, when she took a hiatus that ultimately lasted longer than a decade. As early as 2010, she had remarked that she was 'mostly retired' as she had become a 'mother with a really noisy, difficult house to maintain!' The New York native also noted: 'I'm a poet, so for the last couple of years that's what I've been focusing on,' in an interview with Total Film. In an online biography on her writing-focused website, she says she 'used to be an actress, but recovered her senses and now she writes.' During her hiatus, she focused her energies on her writing, and her poems have appeared in multiple publications and literary journals. Mia now has a daughter named Amelia, 20, by her second and current husband Brian Henson, who is the son of The Muppets creator Jim Henson. She also has a 28-year-old son called Dashiell by her first husband Jason Connery, whose father was none other than James Bond legend Sean Connery. After many years away from the movies, she is back with The Life Of Chuck. Mia features amid a star-studded cast including Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Hamill, Jacob Tremblay, Karen Gillan and Nick Offerman. The movie earned a warm response from the critics when it premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival, and will be out in theaters soon. The film is adapted from a story by Stephen King — who is a regular source of inspiration for writer–director Mike Flanagan — but the source material is one of King's few non-horror stories.

Kenny Ortega Says Matthew Broderick was a 'Nervous Wreck' During This 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off 'Scene

NEED TO KNOW Matthew Broderick was a "nervous wreck" when filming the parade scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off Choreographer Kenny Ortega talked about making the movie with Entertainment Tonight While making the film, Ortega also met Jennifer Grey. The two later reconnected on Dirty Dancing Despite his charisma and composure on screen, Matthew Broderick wasn't fully confident heading into Ferris Bueller's Day Off due to one thing: his dancing. Choreographer Kenny Ortega shares that Broderick, who played the titular character in the 1986 cult classic, was nervous to film the famous parade scene. "Matthew, the first day I laid eyes on him was in a rehearsal," Ortega told Entertainment Tonight in a recent interview. "He was in a pair of sweats and a T-shirt, and he was a nervous wreck. He was like, 'I've never danced before,' and I was like, 'Don't worry about it. We're gonna figure this out together.' " Despite the then-23-year-old's nerves, Ortega said "he was the most charming, wonderful, sweet man to work with." The scene involved Broderick joining a parade and leading the dancers and crowd through a performance of 'Twist & Shout' and 'Danke Schoen.' Along with choreographing the scene, Ortega — who also worked on High School Musical, Xanadu, and Madonna's "Material Girl" music video, to name a few — also acted as a second unit director on the film. "That was my first directing assignment for a motion picture," Ortega said of the John Hughes comedy. "And he gave me 12 cameras. We moved the float into a real parade. And then we got one take. It was such a magical day, and working with Matthew Broderick." The movie follows Ferris, played by Broderick, now 63, as he and his perpetually pessimistic friend Cameron Frye, played by Alan Ruck, embark on the most epic high school skip day ever, ditching class to spend time in downtown Chicago. Ortega, 75, also met Jennifer Grey on set of the teen comedy. The pair went on to work together on Dirty Dancing. While there were lots of moving parts in the parade scene, Mia Sara, who starred as the iconic cool girl Sloane Peterson, also previously said it was her favorite. 'I had so much fun doing that parade scene,' Sara recalled when talking to PEOPLE in June 2025. 'That was so crazy. Because we would do the dance and then we'd get in a van and they'd drive us blocks away, and the camera would go, and then we'd do the dance again and wait for Matthew to pass," she explained. "And so it was just this crazy... let's catch it as many times as we can. So that was a great moment." Read the original article on People

Matthew Broderick was a nervous wreck during 'Ferris Bueller' parade scene: 'I've never danced before'

Choreographer Kenny Ortega looks back at the making of the 1986 John Hughes classic. Oh yeah, Matthew Broderick nailed that dance number. But Kenny Ortega, who choreographed the iconic parade scene of the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, in which star Broderick's Bueller encourages the crowd in downtown Chicago to "Twist and Shout," as he lip-synced to that song as well as "Danke Schoen," says the actor was not nearly as confident as he looked on screen. Dramatically dropping to his knees, shaking his head, and moving his hips, like a rock star would do was uncomfortable for the young actor. "Matthew, the first day I laid eyes on him was in a rehearsal," Ortega said in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. "He was in a pair of sweats and a T-shirt, and he was a nervous wreck. He was like, 'I've never danced before,' and I was like, 'Don't worry about it. We're gonna figure this out together.' And he was the most charming, wonderful, sweet man to work with." And Ortega, who was also working as a second unit director, truly meant that. "That was my first directing assignment for a motion picture," Ortega said of the John Hughes film that continues to be an audience favorite. "And he gave me 12 cameras. We moved the float into a real parade. And then we got one take. It was such a magical day, and working with Matthew Broderick." Ferris, which costarred Mia Sara and Alan Ruck as the main character's girlfriend, Sloane, and best friend, Cameron, followed the three teens on an epic day after he faked being sick to skip school. Apparently Bueller wasn't too worried about being recognized when he hopped onto a float. (Like the rest of the movie, parts of the parade scene didn't make sense, but the point was that it was definitely a fun watch.) Sara has said that the filming of the parade scene is her favorite memory from the set, because she "had so much fun," she told PEOPLE in June. Ortega also told PEOPLE that Ferris Bueller's Day Off is where he met the actress who played Ferris' sister, Jeanie: Jennifer Grey, who would soon work with him on another movie, 1987's Dirty Dancing. ‘Ferris Bueller's Day Off' Sweater Vest Worn by Matthew Broderick Sells for $279,400 at Sotheby's New York Auction

The famous sweater vest worn by Matthew Broderick in the 1986 John Hughes teen comedy 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' sold at auction on Tuesday for $279,400 via Sotheby's in New York City. The sweater vest attracted 11 bids. Broderick wears the memorable photomatched vest during the 'Twist and Shout' sequence of the '80s film. 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' follows the titular character on an epic day playing hooky in Chicago at the end of the school year. It's more than just a costume — it's a piece of 1980s Americana that embodies a character, a decade, and a universal sense of youthful rebellion,' Ralph DeLuca, Sotheby's vice chairman, popular culture, said in a statement. 'As Sotheby's launches its newly dedicated Popular Culture department, offering this vest at auction marks a fitting start — an item that reflects the spirit of a beloved film and connects with audiences across generations.' 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' marked Oscar-nominated American costume designer Marilyn Vance's fourth collaboration with director John Hughes, the filmmaker behind such teen classics as 'The Breakfast Club' and 'Sixteen Candles.' Prior to working on 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off,' Vance collaborated with Hughes on his films 'The Breakfast Club' and 'Pretty in Pink,' the latter of which Hughes wrote but did not direct. According to Sotheby's, the sweater vest was one of Vance's initial ideas for creating the costumes for the titular character. Vance found the camel and chocolate brown sweater with its striking geometric pattern reminiscent of leopard print at Marshall Field's, according to Sotheby's. She cut the sleeves off to give the piece its memorable look. The 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' sweater vest sale coincides with the debut of Sotheby's newly dedicated Popular Culture department, led by DeLuca. Moving forward, Sotheby's will host dedicated multi-auction sales events twice a year — in October and April — for items spanning film, TV, music and comics. 80s movie star who played iconic villains makes rare appearance 23yrs after child abuse scandal ended glittering career

DISGRACED movie star Jeffrey Jones made a rare public appearance more than two decades after a child abuse scandal ended his glittering career. Jeffrey, who played the roles of iconic villains in the 80s, appeared on a panel with his former co-stars at The Hollywood Show. 4 4 The actor, who has been away from the public eye for years following his arrest in 2002, interacted with the audience and shared bits about his personal life. Jeffrey made a rare appearance to discuss the iconic 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off, in which he played the role of high school principal Ed Rooney. Chatting about the cult classic, the actor revealed he does not live in Los Angeles anymore. He told the audience: "I moved to live in the desert. "I didn't want to be in LA anymore, but I got my family here, and so little kids get old fast. I'm driving back and forth." The actor added: "I'm getting a place now in LA I've given up because I can't keep going back and forth from Burbank to the desert." On the panel, he also discussed what it was like to work with legendary director John Hughes, who passed away in 2009. The Beetlejuice actor said: "He entertained, and was certainly collaborative. "He wanted what he wanted. Usually it was a fight because there was time and budget to consider, and John didn't really pay much attention to that.' In November 2002, Jeffrey was arrested and charged with possession of sick child abuse images and soliciting a minor for nude photos, according to a report by The Los Angeles Times at the time. The actor later pleaded no contest to soliciting a minor while prosecutors dropped possession of sick child abuse images. A court sentenced Jeffrey to five years of probation, one year of psychological counselling and two years of drug and alcohol abuse counselling. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and prohibited from possessing any pornography. Jeffrey said at the time: "I am sorry that this incident was allowed to occur. "Such an event has never happened before and it will never happen again." In 2004, Jeffrey was arrested again after he failed to register himself as a sex offender when he moved to Florida and again in 2010 when he came back to LA. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 250 hours of community service, in addition to three years of probation. Last year, Jeffrey's character in Beetlejuice was killed off as part of the movie's long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. 4
