SIBU (Aug 15): The Sibu Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) has become a key driver of Sarawak's digital transformation, equipping entrepreneurs in the central region with technological skills and fostering business innovation, said State Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development II, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat.
He highlighted the hub's strategic role in the Sarawak Digital ecosystem under the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC).
'The Sibu DIH, which is part of the broader Sarawak Digital ecosystem under the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), has consistently played a catalytic role in advancing high-value digital entrepreneurship and supporting start-ups,' he said in a speech delivered by Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Sayed Azmi Wan Junaidi, at the closing ceremony of the Festival Siri Sandbox 2025 at Sibu DIH today.
He said since its inception in 2022, the Sibu DIH has consistently acted as a catalyst for high-value digital entrepreneurship and start-up growth.
Through the Sandbox programme, hundreds of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sibu and the surrounding central region have benefited from guided digitalisation and technology-driven mentorship, he added.
'Sibu DIH continues to collaborate with key ecosystem enablers such as Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas), iCube, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology & Innovation (Mranti), and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to empower local entrepreneurs and steer Sarawak towards the goals of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,' he said.
Held from Aug 11-15, the Sandbox Festival 2025 brought together local and international trainers, corporate representatives, and digital experts for a series of workshops and sessions on innovation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
Dr Ripin expressed confidence that initiatives like Sibu DIH would strengthen Sarawak's position as a regional digital economy powerhouse.
'I commend the efforts of SDEC and the Sibu Digital Innovation Hub team, and reaffirm the government's support for such platforms to be expanded and sustained in the years ahead,' he said.
He also congratulated participants, urging them to continue contributing to Sarawak's digital economy through innovation-led business growth.
