Michelin Guide Adds 16 New York City Restaurants
Dishes from The Crane Club in the Meatpacking District Dozens of excellent restaurants have opened in New York City recently. And a few of them have gained sought-after prestige. The Michelin Guide just released its latest list of New York City restaurants added to the 'Recommended' selection of its dining guide to the city. All of the restaurants included are eligible to win Bib Gourmand or Star awards at the annual Michelin Guide Ceremony, which typically takes place towards the end of the year. Currently, New York City is home to over 350 Michelin Recommended restaurants, all vetted by Michelin inspectors. Of this selection, there are five three-star restaurants, 14 two-star restaurants, and 55 one-star restaurants. New this month to the Michelin guide are several Manhattan hotspots, already tough to secure reservations at. Here are the 16 new Michelin recommended restaurants in New York. Field Guide in Williamsburg is included on the new list of Michelin Guide's recommended restaurants Nostalgia is certainly in style, and the newly reporn Cafe Commerce, a West Village restaurant that closed over ten years ago, has been recreated by chef and owner Harold Moore at a new location on the Upper East Side. 'Don't even think of skipping the coconut cake, which has earned a loyal fan base. It's four layers of pure delight,' Michelin says of the restaurant's desserts. Lest the Upper East Side precede its less-than-destination-worthy dining reputation, know know that Chez Fifi, a posh and intimate French Bistro on East 74th Street, has also joined the Michelin guide. Crab noodles at Ly Ly Vietnamese Cookhouse on the Upper East Side A third Upper East Side eatery joins the new inclusions: Ly Ly Vietnam Cookhouse. 'It's the kind of place you want to drop in on a cold winter's night to boost your mood but don't let the whimsical vibe fool you, as the Vietnamese dishes are seriously good,' Michelin shares. La Dong, a Vietnamese restaurant off Union Square popular on social media for its dramatic dining room and tableside pours of pho, is also included. Also uptown, Sempre Oggi, an Italian trattoria on the Upper West Side made the list thanks to its house-made rigatoni with crispy guanciale and sauteed onion in a roasted tomato sauce and classic tiramisu. Further south, Chef Michael White's newest restaurant, and ode to the Amalfi Coast in Midtown, has also gained inclusion. 'Orecchiette tossed with blue crab and sea urchin is a highlight, as is the pan-roasted veal chop plated with pancetta-wrapped, charred radicchio,' Michelin advises. Pasta at Sempre Oggi on the Upper West Side Want more pasta? Ridgewood, which is on the rise as a culinary destination, has a new restaurant on Michelin's list, il Gigante. 'This neighborhood gem has quickly become a local favorite for its Italian-American dishes served in a cozy setting,' Michelin says. 'The offerings are simple but hit all the right notes…One dish not to miss? Lasagna alla Bolognese, a perfect rendition of a classic that's sided by a small mug filled with grated parm for sprinkling on top. End with tiramisu, of course.' The only other outer borough inclusion in the new list is Field Guide, a contemporary neighborhood restaurant in Williamsburg. Celeb-chef led steakhouses also pair up on this month's Michelin recommendations. La Tête d'Or, Daniel Boulud's opulent steakhouse, and Crane Club, Melissa Rodriguez's modern steakhouse in the former Del Posto space, have made the list. Taylor Swift dined at the latter. Tartare served with caviar and kettle chips at Sinsa in the East Village Two recommended pre-theater spots in Hell's Kitchen are on the list: Hyderabadi Zaiqa, a small Indian restaurant, and Chalong, a Thai restaurant known for shareable plates. The list rounds out with a few downtown hotspots including European-inspired seafood restaurant Crevette, New England seafood joint Smithereens, Heroes from the team behind Air's Champagne Parlor, and Sinsa, an East Village wine bar with excellent Korean food.
