Roger Goodell: USA Football will select Olympic flag football rosters, not NFL
While the NFL has approved active players to participate in the 2028 Summer Olympic flag football tournament in Los Angeles, commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear that the NFL will not determine which players will compete for the United States. Rather, Goodell said during last week's meeting of league owners, the roster selection will come down to a separate group: USA Football. 'That's actually a function of USA Football that will be making that decision,' Goodell said. 'The NFL will not have any involvement in that selection process.' According to USA Football bylaws, Goodell will appoint three individuals to the 15-member board with at least two of them serving on the five-person executive committee. This all comes just a few days after NFL owners unanimously voting in favor of allowing active players to compete in flag football at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. No more than one player from each NFL team will be able to participate in the games, which will feature six men's teams and six women's teams consisting of 10 players apiece. 'I know first-hand that the inclusion of flag football in the Olympics has sparked a tremendous amount of excitement among NFL players interested in the chance to compete for their country on the world stage,' Goodell said at the time. 'We are thrilled that they will now have that chance.' The 2028 Summer Games are scheduled to take place from July 14-30, 2028. NFL players generally are off from mid-June until the start of training camp in late July. Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Miami LB Adarius Hayes injured in fatal car crash
Sophomore Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes was injured in a two-car crash that left two children dead and several others in the hospital. Police in Largo, Fla., the hometown of Hayes, said the crash occurred at 1:45 p.m. Saturday as a Dodge Durango collided with a Kia Soul that was making a left turn at an intersection. Killed were 10-year-old Jabari Elijah Solomon and 4-year-old Charlie Herbert Solomon Riveria, according to police. It was unclear Sunday whether Hayes was a driver or a passenger and which car he was traveling in. University officials have not commented on the crash or the extent of Hayes' injuries. Hayes played in 12 games as a freshman in the 2024 season, primarily on special teams. He had four tackles and one interception. Coming out of Largo High School, Hayes was a four-star prospect in the Class of 2024. Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Brian Harman holds onto lead at Valero Texas Open
Brian Harman was fortunate to be in a good spot when the third round of the Valero Texas Open began. Harman recovered from a shaky start on the way to an even-par 72 on Saturday to carry three-stroke at windy TPC San Antonio's Oaks Course in San Antonio. 'When you get around this place and the wind blows and the pins are tucked, it's just a really hard day,' Harman said. Harman, who's at 12 under for the tournament, wavered at times after entering the day with a four-shot edge, but came through enough as several contenders stalled in their pursuits. 'Leaning on my short game today, chipped it in there close a few times,' Harman said. 'The stat sheet won't say it, but I made some solid par putts.' Andrew Novak shot 69 to move to 9 under in second place. Tom Hoge (68) is in third at 8 under and Kevin Mitchell (73) is fourth at 7 under. Hoge and others did enough to make up ground on Harman, who leads through 54 holes for the fifth time in his career on the PGA Tour. Not all the golfers held it together. Sam Ryder was in the final group Saturday, but his 77 sent him tumbling to 2 under for the tournament and tied for 28th place. Mitchell's decline wasn't as severe on a day when only two golfers (Hoge and Novak) kept their scores under 70. 'You were just trying to find a green, trying to find a way to just stop the ball,' Mitchell said. 'Just wish I was a little closer to Brian. He made two birdies coming in. Still got a chance.' Chad Ramey (70), Finland's Sami Valimaki (70) and Japan's Ryo Hisatsune (73) all share fifth place at 6 under. Harman had bogeys on two of the first four holes. Birdies on Nos. 14 and 17 got him on track. Yet, the late-round challenges included needing to scramble for par on the par-3 16th hole after his tee shot was in the fringe rough. Canada's Corey Conners, a two-time winner of the tournament, had worked himself into contention before a disastrous stretch. He began on the backside and chipped in for eagle on No. 17, sharing third place on the leaderboard. But Conners played his last two holes in 3 over, with a double-bogey 6 on No. 9. Texas holds special place in Swede star Ludvig Aberg's heart
While Lubbock, Texas, is a long way -- approximately 5,179 miles -- from his hometown of Eslow, Sweden, rising Swedish star Ludvig Aberg fondly recalled his college days at Texas Tech ahead of this week's Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio. 'For me coming over here, it was a great experience to get my education as well,' the 25-year-old said. 'I was playing in one of the top programs in the country. It was my home for four years, stayed here for a little bit after even when I got done with school. It was definitely a great experience and I can't talk nicely enough about Lubbock and Texas Tech.' Fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking, Aberg aims to claim a second 2025 PGA title this weekend, having won the Genesis Invitational in February. He opened the season with a tie for fifth at The Sentry, but his next-best finish was a tie for 22nd at last month's Arnold Palmer Invitational. As for Lubbock, Aberg said he was there last weekend watching basketball with friends and enjoys returning to his alma mater whenever time allows. 'I thought it was great to see a different side of the world that I hadn't seen before,' he said. 'Obviously growing up in Sweden, that's one kind of culture, then I came over here and I saw this, which was really cool. I loved traveling, I loved seeing that part. Yeah, I'll be back in Lubbock whenever I can next time.' Preparing for his first PGA Tour event since missing the cut at The Players Championship last month, Aberg -- who tied for 14th in San Antonio last year -- is aiming to bounce back on familiar turf. 'Looking forward to it,' he said. 'It's a lot of fun playing tournaments in Texas where I went to school. It will be a good test, the golf course as always can be pretty challenging. Looks like we're going to have some nice weather, so it will be fun.' Aberg, who missed the cut at the Valero Texas Open as an amateur in 2022, is quite familiar with the course from his time at Texas Tech and hopes to avoid any potential pitfalls. 'I think obviously you need to keep the ball in front of you off the tee,' he said. 'Once you start to miss a little bit, it can be a little penalizing. You get some of these greens when they get baked and fast and some wind coming down in the afternoon can make it a little challenging. 'It's a cool place. I've played a lot of golf here, we played some college events here a couple years ago, too, so I really like it.' Despite his experience on the course, Aberg knows that won't matter once the participants tee off for real. 'Come Thursday, it doesn't really change anything,' he said. 'We all try to hit to the targets, and if you don't, you're going to be punished. That doesn't really come with experience, but it will be cool to tee it up again here.' Novak Djokovic breaks Masters 1000 record with win in Miami
Serbian star Novak Djokovic broke the record for most match wins in ATP Masters 1000 events when he beat Argentine lucky loser Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-1, 7-6 (1) in the Round of 32 at the Miami Open on Sunday. Djokovic, the fourth seed, earned win No. 411 at the prestigious Masters 1000 level for his career. He entered the tournament at 409 wins and tied Spanish legend Rafael Nadal at 410 after his opening win over Australia's Rinky Hijikata. 'I'm honored to have another milestone, another record broken,' Djokovic said. 'There's always something on the line pretty much every time I play, and of course that motivates me to do well at tournaments.' Djokovic fired 10 aces and won 39 of 49 first-service points (79.6 percent) against Carabelli. They each broke each other's serve once in a tightly played second set, but Djokovic dominated the tiebreaker. Djokovic's next opponent will be No. 15 seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, who came back to defeat Canadian 18th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Meanwhile, No. 24 seed Sebastian Korda toppled ninth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 7-6 (4), 6-3. Korda advanced to the Round of 16 at Miami, where the Florida native previously reached the quarterfinals in 2021. '(It feels) awesome,' Korda said. 'I was born in Florida. My whole family is here. It's just a lot of fun to play here and get my first top-10 win of the year. I tried to serve well, tried to come to the net when I could, and I'm just happy with my performance today.' Korda hit eight aces, saved 4 of 6 break points and converted 3 of 4 opportunities to break Tsitsipas' serve. Korda leapt out to a 4-0 lead in the second set en route to finishing with a 22-16 edge in total winners. Another American, 31st-seed Brandon Nakashima, also moved on by beating Belgium's David Goffin 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3. Nakashima's next opponent will be No. 14 seed Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, who eked past No. 22 Karen Khachanov of Russia 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-5. Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved
