MUSCAT: The Oman Under-17 football team was clubbed with Afghanistan, Syria, Nepal and hosts Myanmar in Group G of AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers Saudi Arabia 2026. The draw of the Asian qualifying event in its 21st edition was organised by Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Thursday at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The highly anticipated qualifiers for the 21st edition of the continental tournament will run from November 22 to 30, 2025, and will be contested in a single round-robin by centralised format. A total of 38 teams have been divided into seven groups, with three groups comprising six teams and four groups including five teams. All group winners will progress to the 21st edition of the Finals, where they will join the nine AFC representatives from the Fifa U17 World Cup Qatar 2025 who have automatically qualified including: Qatar, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Korea Republic, DPR Korea, Japan, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia. Group A featured China, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Timor-Leste and Sri Lanka while Group B comprised 2002 runners-up Yemen, Laos, hosts Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Guam and Pakistan. The Group C will see hosts Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Northern Mariana Islands and Macau while 2008 champions Iran will take on hosts India, Palestine, Chinese Taipei and Lebanon in Group D. Oman were crowned champions twice in the past. Australia will headline Group E, with 2016 winners Iraq, Philippines, Jordan as hosts and Bhutan while hosts Thailand will vie for a slot in Group F as they meet Kuwait, Turkmenistan, Mongolia and Maldives. Two-time champions Oman will compete against Afghanistan, Myanmar (hosts), Syria and Nepal in Group G. Oman, crowned champions twice in the past, will be looking to secure their place in the finals for what would be their 12th appearance in the tournament's history. Their debut came in 1994, where they captured third place after a 3-2 victory over Bahrain. Oman to begin campaign against Tajikistan

MUSCAT: The AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2025 will kick off on Thursday with 16 teams vying for the coveted title. Oman U17 national football team arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to commence their competitions in the Asian event. Oman will vie in the highly anticipated tournament in Group D alongside Iran, Tajikistan and North Korea. Oman's campaign in the Asian Championship will commence with a match against Tajikistan on Saturday at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium Hall (Jeddah) and the match will start at 8 pm (Oman Time). In the following match, the Oman boys will take on Iran in a tough tie which will take place on April 8 at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium (Jeddah) before concluding the group matches with a clash against North Korea on April 11 at King Abdullah Sports City Hall Stadium (Jeddah). Oman to begin campaign against Tajikistan Oman team, coached under technical guidance of coach Anwar al Habsi, performed their first training sessions on Tuesday after arrival at the secondary training ground of King Abdullah Sports City Stadium Hall in Jeddah. The session focused on physical training and execution of some tactical moves. Oman striker Al Walid al Rashdi, who is playing for Al Bashayer Club, is one of the promising star in this championship after his outstanding performance during the last Asian qualifiers. He managed to score four goals in Oman's qualifying campaign and it is expected to be aiming to be even sharper in the Asian event. Oman to begin campaign against Tajikistan Oman's young talents will aim to book slot in the Fifa U17 World Cup Qatar 2025 as this Asian Championship will act as a qualifier for global event and for the first time, eight Asian teams will secure spots in the expanded 48-team Fifa U17 World Cup. The top opponent in Oman's group will be Iran as they are ranked as the top Asian team in this pool. Omid Garachchomaghloo from Iran can not only provide the spark in Iran's attack but also creativity in midfield as they look to reclaim the title they won in 2008. Garachchomaghloo starred with four goals against Hong Kong in the Qualifiers. Oman to begin campaign against Tajikistan Tajikistan's Muhammadjon Nazriev was the top scorer of the Qualifiers, netting an impressive 16 goals. His most notable performance came against Guam, where he scored 14 goals in a single match, contributing significantly to Tajikistan's 33-0 victory. Forward player Kim Yu Jin from North Korea played a starring role in his team qualifying campaign with four goals. Kim, who plays his club football with 4.25 Sports Club, scored a brace in their 8-2 win over Hong Kong before netting a last-gasp winner in the 2-1 defeat of Syria.
