Cris Cyborg adamant Kayla Harrison 'ran away,' breaks down UFC 316 title fight

Kayla Harrison may be the one fight that got away from Cris Cyborg. Bellator featherweight champion Cyborg (28-2 MMA) has held a title in just about every major organization. When PFL acquired Bellator, Cyborg was excited at the possibility of finally fighting Harrison, but Harrison wound up signing with the UFC. Cyborg has two fights left on her PFL contract. She is expected to face Sara Collins (6-0) in a women's featherweight title defense in her next MMA fight, but not before lacing up the gloves against Precious Harris-McCray (4-1) in a six-round boxing match Saturday in the Fight Night 3: San Jose co-headliner at Tech CU Arena in San Jose, Calif. "Everybody knows Kayla Harrison ran away from me," Cyborg told MMA Junkie. "You see Julianna Peña has been talking about this. You never know. I'm in the PFL now, I'm defending my title, but I don't know. The opportunity maybe in the future, but for now, I'm focusing on finishing these next two fights and get into a different chapter in my life." Harrison found instant success in the octagon, and earned a title shot after back-to-back wins over Holly Holm and Ketlen Vieira. She challenges Julianna Peña for the bantamweight title in the UFC 316 co-headliner on June 7. "It's going to be a very interesting fight," Cyborg said of Harrison vs. Peña. "I believe Julianna Peña has everything to win the fight. For sure she has to defend the takedowns of Kayla Harrison, but she has very good wrestling. I actually saw some study we have for Kayla when I was supposed to fight her, and it's going to be a great fight. It's two grapplers. Let's see who's going to have the perfect plan is going to win the fight." This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: Cris Cyborg: 'Kayla Harrison ran away from me,' and everyone knows it

Bellator champ Cris Cyborg details what she expects from PFL after upcoming boxing match

Bellator champ Cris Cyborg details what she expects from PFL after upcoming boxing match Cris Cyborg will be back in the boxing ring this week in her quest to stay active in between MMA fights. But the Bellator women's featherweight champion said there should be news soon about her next MMA fight. Cyborg (6-0 boxing) takes on Precious Harris-McCray (4-1) in a six-round boxing match Saturday in the Fight Night 3: San Jose co-headliner at Tech CU Arena in San Jose, Calif. The fight will reunite Cyborg with her former Strikeforce and Bellator promoter, Scott Coker. Cyborg (28-2 MMA) is expected to fight Sara Collins (6-0) in a women's featherweight title defense under the PFL banner. "I believe after this boxing fight, they're going to announce my next fight," Cyborg told MMA Junkie on Tuesday. "Sara Collins is the next challenger for the belt. She beat Leah McCourt. I'm really excited, but I always like to focus on my next fight, which is the boxing one. But I believe after this boxing fight, we're going to have news about my next MMA fight." Although quite a few fighters have left the PFL in the rearview mirror after the Bellator merger, Cyborg said she's optimistic about her future with the promotion. "I know my manager did a great contract, an amazing contract with the PFL," she said. "I'm really happy to be able to be boxing when I don't have an MMA fight and I'm excited after this fight, for sure, you're going to have news about my MMA fight. "I have two more fights on my contract. … My plan is continue between MMA fights and boxing fights and I hope to finish my career a PFL champion and a boxing champion."
