Iowa bill to remove DEI programs in government moves forward
A plan to remove diversity, equity and inclusion programs in Iowa government cleared the State Senate.
Senators voted 34-15 in favor of Senate File 507. The move would prohibit cities and counties from establishing or maintaining a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) offices.
The bill's sponsor, Sen. Cherielynn Westrich says the Republican Party's position is that DEI causes more discrimination. Democrats argue it should be up to local authorities to make these decisions.
The bill now heads to the State House for debate. For more information, click here.
