Lotlot De Leon marks 40 days since Nora Aunor's death

It's been 40 days since Nora Aunor passed away. On Instagram, her daughter Lotlot De Leon shared photos of their family visiting Nora's grave at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City, to mark the 40th day since her passing. 'It's been 40 days since you left us, but not a single day goes by without us thinking of you,' Lotlot began. Reflecting on the priest's message about the meaning of love during the Mass, the actress shared that she couldn't help but remember what her mother once told her and her sister, Matet De Leon. 'I couldn't help but remember when you told me and Matet, 'Magmahalan kayong lima, ha.' Ma, hanggang ngayon, yang bilin mo—susundin at isasabuhay namin. Sure na sure naman 'yan,' she said. 'The weather was kind—warm, but the breeze carried a gentle peace that comforted us. I know this is what you would've wanted—simple and solemn,' Lotlot added. The actress admitted things are still difficult, as there are moments when she has so much to say but can't find the words. Yet whenever she thinks of Nora and knows she's now in a better place, she somehow finds a sense of peace. Ending her post, Lotlot said that they will get through all of this because they always carry her in their hearts. 'Rest now, Mommy. Kakayanin namin 'to. Kaya namin—dahil dala-dala ka pa rin namin sa puso namin. Love you ma,' she added. Lotlot and her sister, Matet, recently paid tribute to Aunor on what would have been her 72nd birthday on May 21. The National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts passed away on April 16 at the age of 71. According to her son, Ian De Leon, she died of acute respiratory failure. She was honored with a state necrological service and was laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on April 22. The Philippines continues to mourn and pay tribute to the one and only Superstar through initiatives like film viewings. A local bakery has also named a pastry after her. Meanwhile, Lotlot has asked for privacy and vowed to protect Aunor's dignity amid the family's grieving. — Jade Veronique Yap/LA, GMA Integrated News

Marcos, Office of the President paid Nora Aunor's hospital bills, other expenses

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. and the Office of the President covered the hospital expenses and other debts of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor, a senior Palace official confirmed. Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Senior Undersecretary Analisa 'Ana' Puod clarified to reporters that it was not the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) that paid the bills. 'It was the Office of the President and President Marcos himself,' Puod said. She added that aside from Aunor's hospital bill, other debts and expenses were also settled using the President's personal funds. Puod explained that while Aunor was entitled to hospitalization benefits as a National Artist, the cost of her stay at a private hospital exceeded what the standard benefits could cover. 'On top of the hospitalization benefits, the President and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos personally provided additional financial assistance,' Puod said. The exact amount covered was not disclosed. Nora Aunor, whose real name was Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, passed away on April 16 due to acute respiratory failure. She was 71 years old. Earlier this week, she was laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City. Known as the 'Superstar,' Aunor built a celebrated career in both music and film, starring in classics like Himala, T-Bird at Ako, Bulaklak sa City Jail, and The Flor Contemplacion Story. Dubai: Iconic actress and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor has died at age 71, her son Kristoffer Ian De Leon confirmed in a heartfelt Facebook post on April 16, 2025. ' We love you, Ma… Alam ng Diyos kung gaano ka namin kamahal… Pahinga ka na po Ma… Nandito ka lang sa puso at isipan namin, ' he wrote. (We love you, Mom. God knows how much we love you. Please rest now. You will remain in our hearts and minds.) In his tribute, Ian described his mother as the beating heart of their family, a beacon of unwavering love, strength, and warmth. "Her kindness, wisdom, and beautiful spirit touched everyone who knew her," he shared. "She will be missed beyond words and remembered forever." Lotlot De Leon, Nora's daughter, also took to Facebook to express her grief. "It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nora Aunor, beloved mother, celebrated television and movie actress, and true National Artist of the Philippines," she wrote. "She was a star not only on screen but in the hearts of many—and stars like hers never stop shining. Her light lives on—forever loved, never forgotten." Just days earlier, Lotlot's mother-in-law, the beloved singer and actress Pilita Corrales, also passed away. Lotlot shared an emotional post on Facebook, writing, "She loved her family like there's no tomorrow. She would move heaven and earth just for them... Rest in paradise, Mamita. A million thanks to you." Aunor, born Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, reportedly passed away just weeks shy of her 72nd birthday. Her family has not disclosed the exact cause of death, though she had been dealing with ongoing health issues and recently withdrew from the 2025 elections due to medical advice. Known as the 'Superstar' and hailed as the ' Grand Dame of Philippine Cinema,' Aunor's career spanned over five decades in film, television, music, and stage. She first rose to fame as a singing champion on Tawag ng Tanghalan in 1967 and later captivated audiences with award-winning performances in classics like Himala (1982), Minsa'y Isang Gamu-Gamo (1976), and Bona (1980). In 2022, Aunor was conferred the Order of National Artists, the highest cultural honor in the Philippines. She also received multiple accolades, including five FAMAS Best Actress awards and international recognition for roles in Thy Womb (2012) and The Flor Contemplacion Story (1995). Her final film appearance was in Mananambal (2024), and she was last seen on television in Lilet Matias: Attorney-at-Law. Beyond the spotlight, Aunor lived a vibrant and sometimes turbulent personal life. She is survived by her children Ian, Lotlot, and Matet de Leon, among other adopted children and grandchildren. Condolences and tributes poured in from fans, colleagues, and fellow artists, including longtime friend and on-screen rival Vilma Santos, who wrote: 'Our sincerest condolences and prayers. Rest in peace, Mare (my friend). Ms Nora Aunor, our superstar and national artist, maraming salamat.' Aunor's legacy is one of unparalleled brilliance, her impact forever etched in the annals of Philippine cinema and culture. Her light may have dimmed, but her spirit, like the stars she embodied, will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved her.
