Fire departments across the country purchase Firepup costumes, formerly known as Sparky the Fire Dog, which are used to inform children about fire safety.
Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue thanked Prosperity Bank for contributing to the $3,395 cost of the costume. Hogue said he hopes the costume can be used during an April event they're planning with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The new costume will also be used during Fire Prevention Month in October, when they'll go to local elementary schools to educate students about fire prevention.
Anyone interested in donating toward the cost of the costume can contact the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office at 903-590-2655.
