Fireaway Pizza gets go ahead to open in Street, Somerset

A NEW takeaway pizza place is set to open in a Somerset village after getting planning approval. Fireaway Pizza is set to open in Street, Somerset, after a decision was made on a submitted planning document on July 10. Known for its wide variety of pizza selections, Fireaway offers savoury and sweet pizzas - with its Nutella Pizza a standout option. This new branch will become the third Fireaway Pizza takeaway in Somerset, with other locations in Taunton and Bridgwater. A current tech-selling shop named 'System Computers' at 1 Bayliss Centre, in the High Street, is set to be repurposed from a shop to a takeaway, after Sanjay Pate submitted documents via the Somerset Council planning portal. (Image: Somerset Planning Portal) The public has reacted to the news of the new pizza place via the planning portal, with 11 people objecting - most of whom say that there are too many pizza/fast food places in the village, and would be unhappy if the computer shop shut its doors. Mr Andrew Convey, who is one of the 11 people against the opening of Fireaway in Street, said: "Government planning law now requires councils to control the proliferation of take aways for the good of public health and encourage the diversification of shops available for consumers on their high streets. "Not wanting to limit competition in one particular trade is not a limiting factor. As there are already over 8 Pizza retailers on the High St, amongst an over abundance of other types, this application should be refused. There is a retailer in residence who directly fits the government objective." Mrs Carly Dutton-Edwards, who also objected, said: "7 Systems Computers is a valuable asset to the village, and the only computer shop that is open on a Saturday - this is essential for those who work full time Monday-Friday. "It is also a lifeline for other local businesses who rely on the expertise provided to help them run their own business. "Small businesses need all the help they can get to continue operating in this current climate. As others have commented we do already have a lot restaurants/takeaways, and it appears from signage there is already another pizza shop opening very close by, in the old bakery near to Abbey Garage. "Many, many people are commenting their objections to this on Facebook, but it is not overly clear to people how they can object on this website - indeed, I tried accessing on my mobile phone and it was extremely unclear, and I have only been able to complete the process now that I have tried on my laptop. "A laptop, which I have taken to 7 System Computers many times for repairs and updates. "If it was clear to local people on how to (and the necessity to) object on this website, I think you would have had far more objections on this website." Fireaway Pizza takeaway review: Forgettable pizzas with little hint of fire

Fireaway Pizza      Address : 2 Wexford Street, Dublin 2, D02 XA59 Telephone : 086-3692256 Cuisine : Pizza Website : Cost : € What's on offer? Fireaway Pizza opened its first Dublin outlet on Wexford Street in January 2025. It is currently the only Dublin location, though there are plans for more across the city and greater Dublin area. Five other outlets are already operating elsewhere in Ireland. The company was founded by Mario Aleppo, who opened the first Fireaway Pizza in Sutton, south London, in 2016. The brand is based on recipes brought from Italy's Amalfi Coast by Aleppo's grandmother in 1949. Fireaway now has more than 160 locations, offering a mix of traditional Italian methods and newer flavour combinations, including a buffalo chicken range. Dough is made fresh daily in each outlet using Italian flour. Pizzas are cooked in custom-built stone ovens that reach 400 degrees, firing the pizzas in about three minutes. The Dublin outlet follows the same preparation, with no premade bases or frozen dough. What did we order? Fireaway Pizza Special, Veggie Supreme, Mexicano Pizza, all 12 inches. READ MORE How was the service? Delivery was on time, but there were problems. The dips were duplicated instead of being different as requested, and there were issues with the bases: what was meant to be thick crust turned out thin, and the thin crust looked thicker than expected. Was the food nice? None of the pizzas showed any real signs of being wood-fired – no leoparding underneath, no char – despite the name suggesting otherwise. The Fireaway Special had meatballs, barbecue sauce, red onions, mushrooms and crispy fried onions. The barbecue sauce dominated. Reheated, it was the best of the three, but still firmly in chain pizza territory: standard cheese, no standout flavour. The Mexicano had jalapeños, mini pepperoni, and a bit of heat, but little else. The base was rigid. The Veggie Supreme was worse. Some blistering and air pockets on the dough, but it was bland. Undercooked vegetables and a thin, weak sauce. None of the pizzas were awful, but all were forgettable – the kind you could get anywhere from Apache to Domino's. The garlic dip was standard, tangy with a hint of lime. The peri-peri dip had some heat but barely scraped the bar for expectations. What about the packaging? The pizzas arrived in cardboard boxes. What did it cost? €49.46 for dinner for three people: Fireaway Pizza Special, €15.49; Veggie Supreme, €15.49; Mexicano Pizza, €15.49; and service fee, €2.99. Where does it deliver? Open daily, noon-4am. Order through Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats. Delivery radius of 3.5km if ordered directly from website. Would I order it again? No. Fireaway delivered a generic chain pizza experience, no better and no worse.

Taste Test: Is Fireaway Pizza 'the best pizza in Inverurie'?

As we enter Fireaway Pizza in Inverurie around lunchtime, a customer calls out to us: 'this is the best pizza in Inverurie'. High praise indeed, we become even more intrigued to try the offering. Founded in London in 2016, Fireaway Pizza now has branches across the UK. The Inverurie unit is snug, situated on the Aberdeenshire town's North Street. The first thing Andy and I spot inside is the huge 400-degree fire oven at the back of the pizzeria, with a rotating surface that ensures each pizza gets up close and personal with the flames. Each of the pizzas are made fresh in front of us, and they even offer a quirky dessert pizza too. Other options on the menu include chicken wings, cannoli and milkshakes. We had come hungry, and – stomach grumblings – watch the pizza go from a fresh ball of dough to a completed, cooked pizza, topped with melted mozzarella and plenty of pepperoni. Of course, the first item we try on our visit has to be pizza. The is priced at £12.99, and has all the nostalgia you associate with the evocative Italian bite. The crusts are perfectly crispy, the pizza base thin with that nice, chewy texture. There's a layer of the tangy tomato base, but it isn't too heavyhanded- none of that tomato overkill which can make a base soggy and floppy. And the melted mozzarella provides that tempting cheese pull. I enjoyed this, and I'd have it again. But it didn't blow me away enough for me to call it the best pizza in Inverurie. 3.5/5 3.5/5 Next up were some chicken wings. We went for (£7.49 for six), but they also offer other flavours such as the garlic parmesan, heat extreme, blue cheese and sriracha. Having recently tried Wingstop – described as 'wing experts' – I had high expectations from these wings too. And these did blow us away. A mouth-watering mix of sweet and spicy, these moreish mouthfuls had us grinning from the first bite. The skin was crispy, the meat juicy, and these were packed with so much flavour we didn't feel the need to try one of Fireaway's 79p dips. 5/5 4/5 We ditched the savoury food at this point and tried out some of the sweet items available at Fireaway Pizza. I am a big fan of cannoli, and was delighted to see these Sicilian pastries available in the Inverurie eatery. The tube-shaped shells come in three flavours here: hazelnut chocolate, lemon and pistachio. We tried the (£5.49) first. These were amazing. The nutty ricotta filling is simultaneously smooth and dense, making each bite both creamy and satisfying. The pastry shells are crunchy but not overly hard, crumbling to create that contrasting mouthfeel. 5/5 4.5/5 Next up, we tried the (£5.49). Again, I can't fault the pastry shell which was perfect. But the chocolate topping was quite rich, making it difficult personally to eat a whole one. Andy was a big fan of these though, and enjoyed the crumbled chunks of hazelnut at either end of the shells. 3.5/5 4/5 The Inverurie pizzeria also offers a rather quirky dessert pizza. We tried the (£7.49). You can get this with toppings like chopped nuts, Custard Creams, Oreos or marshmallows too. Again, this has a satisfying chewy base. This is briefly cooked in the pizza oven too, before the toppings are layered on top. There is a generous Nutella drizzle, and a smattering of Lotus Biscoff crumb on top. This is a fun sweet treat to have, but the cannoli definitely came out on top. 3.5/5 3.5/5 The staff were friendly and accommodating at Fireaway Pizza, the service prompt as well. While the pepperoni pizza didn't blow us away, we were big fans of the chicken wings and the cannoli as well.
