North Bay's farmers' market is having its busiest year on record, its chair says, attributing the boom to a strong growing season, a post-pandemic push to buy local and a desire to support Canadian producers. The market runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays on Fisher Street. Eric Taschner has more.

Northern Ont. man charged with assault, uttering threats after weapon incident

(File photo/CTV News) A 33-year-old North Bay man is facing multiple charges, including assault with a weapon and uttering threats, following an incident on Fisher Street over the weekend. The North Bay Police Service responded to a call at about 12:35 p.m. on Saturday, after multiple reports of a disturbance at a residential property. According to authorities, the accused arrived at the location, where two victims – unknown to him – were present. 'Victims observed the accused pick up a rock, scrape it along two vehicles, and throw it at the vehicles, causing damage,' police said in a news release Monday. While officers were en route, the accused allegedly brandished a weapon and made threats toward the victims. Police arrived while the incident was ongoing and took the accused into custody without further altercation. A search led to the seizure of the weapon involved. The local man has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, mischief and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. Police response praised Acting Deputy Chief Jeff Warner of the North Bay Police Service commended the efforts of responding officers and dispatchers. 'Our dispatchers and officers worked together to quickly and safely bring a rapidly escalating situation under control,' he said. 'They were able to prevent further harm to the victims and ensure broader community safety.'
