Saina Nehwal shares her fitness and diet secrets for staying in top shape: ‘My go-to cardio hack for weight loss…'

Saina Nehwal, ace badminton player and Olympic medalist stays at the top of her game through disciplined workouts and a well-balanced diet that also includes cheat days. In a May 10 interview with Fit Tak, she shares her insights on managing cheat meals, cardio routines and strength training to stay fit and competitive. (Also read: Dr. S Jaishankar's daily routine for staying fit at 70 includes yoga, morning squash, 30 minutes walk ) Talking about how she manages cheat days, Saina shares, "If you want to indulge, you can do it on Wednesdays and Sundays. And if you have the time, it's even better to do a light workout 2–3 hours after your cheat meal. That way, you burn some of the calories, enjoy your food, and still feel satisfied that you balanced it out with exercise." As for how often one should have a cheat day, Saina recommends limiting it to once a week for better results and discipline. A post shared by Fit Tak (@fittakofficial) Saina also shared her go-to cardio hack, revealing that she prefers incline walking over regular walking. "It's more effective than a normal walk because you burn more calories in less time," she explains. She also recommends incorporating running into your routine, ideally for 20 to 30 minutes. "Running is always fun. When you sweat, you feel good and sleep better too," she adds. When asked which is better for weight loss, running or incline walking, Saina says both have their place. She suggests incline is tough. It's not easy, and doing it every day is difficult as it causes leg pain. But you can alternate one day of incline and the next day running. A post shared by Fit Tak (@fittakofficial) Saina also recommends incorporating weight training into your routine for overall strength and conditioning. According to her you gain strength from lifting heavy weights, while running helps tone your body and makes you feel strong as well. She advises starting slow and lifting according to your capacity, saying there's no need to aim for 100 kg right away. It's important to lift what you're comfortable with, begin with something light and gradually increase the weight as you build strength. Riddhima Kapoor Sahni says ‘diets and Kapoors don't go together', gives an insight into breakfast at maternal home: ‘Mann kyu maarna hai'

Riddhima Kapoor Sahni recently opened up about her diet and lifestyle, admitting that while the Kapoors love their food, over the years their choices have become much healthier. 'These days, breakfast is very healthy. There are no parathas, we have cheelas instead. We have a fruit platter, toast, eggs, and all of that. So, it's not heavy duty, but healthier breakfast options,' said the fashion designer who appeared on Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives. Adding that Kapoors are born foodies, the 44-year-old said: 'We are born foodies. Honestly, in the Kapoor house, everyone is a foodie. We enjoy our food. I don't believe in the word diet. Honestly, I don't. Do what makes your soul happy. Eat everything, but eat in moderation. Portion control is the key. Don't deprive yourself of anything. If you feel like having something sweet, have it. That's what I do.' She clarified that while everyone eats healthy, they don't follow restrictive diets. 'I don't think anyone diets in the Kapoors. Diet and Kapoors don't go together. They love their food. I don't think anyone believes in diet. They do believe in eating a balanced diet, but can't think anyone diets in the family,' Riddhima said in a conversation with Fit Tak. Riddhima emphasised that she is particular about not depriving herself of anything. 'I try to eat healthy, but I have a binge day once a week. I eat everything. I don't deprive myself. I am not on any sort of diet because I don't believe in it. Mann kyu maarna hai? (Why should one restrain oneself?) But I won't overdo it. If I want to have something sweet, I will have a piece of chocolate, and why not? That way, I am satisfied,' said Riddhima, who enjoys ghar ka khaana, especially South Indian. 'I love curd rice, achaar, papad. I crave South Indian,' she said. Dt. Vaishali Verma, consultant in nutrition and dietetics at Manipal Hospital Dwarka, said that while a balanced, comfort food has a feel-good effect on both mind and body, it is essential to consider moderation. 'Good food can trigger the release of dopamine, a brain chemical linked to reward and pleasure. Simply thinking about your favourite dish can kickstart this dopamine release,' said Verma. Choices like choosing cheelas over parathas for breakfast are mindful. Besan cheela, made from gram flour, is a nutritious option that offers protein, fibre, and essential nutrients. This delicious and low-calorie option provides sustained energy and supports digestion, said Verma. When you emphasise portion control and mindful eating, you make healthier choices which help nourish the body, maintain weight, and promote overall well-being. Riddhima Kapoor Sahni Shares Raha's Adorable Nickname For Neetu Kapoor: ‘She Calls Her Deda'

Last Updated: Riddhima Kapoor Sahni recently opened up about her love for food, her fitness mantra rooted in yoga, and heartwarming family moments with niece Raha Kapoor. Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, who proudly carries forward the legacy of the Kapoor clan's love for food, recently opened up about her favorite cuisines, her fitness mantra, and shared sweet anecdotes about her niece, Raha Kapoor. Speaking with Fit Tak, Riddhima candidly discussed everything from her mindful eating habits to the special bond Raha shares with Neetu Kapoor. 'We are born foodies in the Kapoor house. We genuinely enjoy our food," Riddhima smiled, adding that while she doesn't believe in restrictive dieting, she swears by portion control. 'I believe in eating everything — but in moderation. Portion control is the key. I do have binge days once or twice a week," she said. When it comes to cheat meals, Riddhima's heart remains close to home-cooked delights. 'Ghar ka khana is the best. My favorite cuisine is South Indian, and my ultimate comfort meal is curd rice with pickle and papad," she shared. Addressing Sonam Kapoor's much-discussed comment on infant nutrition and the dangers of giving honey to babies, Riddhima shared her own perspective. 'I have given my child honey. I give her everything — she's a teenager now and, honestly, smarter than me. She even lectures me on what to eat and what to avoid, and I'm impressed," Riddhima laughed, while also stressing, 'It depends on each parent — every mother knows what's best for her child." She did, however, add that she had refrained from giving salt and sweets to her daughter Samara during her infancy. When asked about her fitness journey, Riddhima revealed yoga has been her steady companion since 2004. 'After Samara was born, I didn't do much initially. But yoga stayed constant for me. I've been doing it for years now. I think I've forgotten what it's like to run on a treadmill!" she joked, mentioning that she sometimes pairs yoga with light weight training but steers clear of traditional gym routines. Riddhima also shared a heartwarming glimpse into the family bond between her daughter Samara and Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's daughter, Raha. 'They both absolutely adore my mother (Neetu Kapoor). Samara calls her 'Nani,' and Raha affectionately calls her 'Deda.' It's so sweet to see," she said. First Published:
