Calgary Flames Foundation announces $3 million for four 'Flames Rotary Sport Zones'

The Calgary Flames Foundation announced $3 million in funding on Friday for four outdoor recreation facilities around Calgary. Article content The all-season sport courts, called 'Flames Rotary Sport Zones,' will be used as outdoor rinks in the winter and will be built in four Calgary communities, Pineridge, Sunalta, Crossroads and one that has yet to be named. Article content Article content The Rotary Club of Calgary at Stampede Park, Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown and Calgary Flames Foundation are all giving $1 million towards the new facilities. Article content Article content Construction starts this summer in the northeast community of Pineridge, and the communities of Sunalta and Crossroads plan to open their sports courts in the fall or winter of 2026. The fourth Flames Rotary Sport Zone is expected to be completed in the fall or winter of 2027. Article content The foundation will also make equipment available at no cost at the four outdoor recreation facilities, which include built-in netting, a half-height board system and 'a bright and vibrant design.' Article content 'This commitment to community assets will support people in their communities with much needed recreation amenities that promote physical activity, spontaneous play opportunities and community building,' said Jeff McCaig, Calgary Flames Foundation chairman, in a Friday statement.
