Thursday storm forces postponement of Lowertown Sounds' first night originally appeared on Bring Me The News. The Thursday evening storm that swept through the Twin Cities forced the postponement of the first concert of St. Paul's Lowertown Sounds series. Ahead of its scheduled Thursday concert featuring the Flamin' Oh's, Lowertown Sounds announced that the threat of thunderstorms had resulted in the cancellation. The show, which would have marked the kickoff of the series at Mears Park, is rescheduled for Sep. 11. 'We are as excited as you about kicking off the series but also don't want our first night out to be a wet and sloppy mess, especially for one of our summer highlight bands, the Flamin Oh's,' Lowertown Sounds wrote on Facebook. The series is scheduled to resume on Thursday, June 19 with a performance by The New Standards. Aside from the rescheduled show, Lowertown Sounds will run on Thursdays through Aug. 14. Tonight's Lowertown Sounds concert at Mears Park postponed due to impending storms
The kickoff of the annual Lowertown Sounds concert series tonight has been postponed due to impending storms. Flamin' Oh's, Faith Boblett and Lonesome Dan Kase will now close out the series on Sept. 11. 'Postponing a show is never easy, and we are disappointed in this outcome, but we also need to do what's best for the various stakeholders and our patrons, and we are always mindful of the best guest and safest experience above all,' organizers said in a news release. The free series runs most Thursdays in the summer in Mears Park in St. Paul's Lowertown. The New Standards and Tina Schlieske will now launch this summer's series on June 19. The big picture: If you're reading this on Thursday, you can likely still make it to Kingfield PorchFest — the free music festival in the south Minneapolis neighborhood that exclusively takes place on front porches from 6-9pm, rain or shine. St. Paul's free concert series Lowertown Sounds also kicks off Thursday night with the Flamin' Oh's at Mears Park, and will continue every Thursday starting at 6pm through August 14. Plus: Wort Tour, a play on the long-running alt/rock music festival Warped Tour, returns to Insight Brewing this Saturday with an all-day lineup of local rockers, including headliner Gully Boys.
