FlexGen acquires Powin assets to enhance energy storage solutions
Battery energy storage solutions provider FlexGen Power Systems has received approval from the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey to acquire a significant portion of Powin's business. This acquisition will advance FlexGen's plans for future-proofing global grids, enabling it to meet energy demands for battery energy storage solutions (BESS). FlexGen will gain ownership of all of Powin's intellectual property (IP), comprising hardware IP, software IP, information technology systems and a considerable spare parts inventory. After the acquisition, FlexGen's portfolio will manage more than 25 gigawatt hours of BESS and 200 projects in ten countries. FlexGen CEO Kelcy Pegler stated: 'This is a significant milestone, not just for FlexGen, but for the entire industry, as storage is no longer a nice-to-have, but rather, essential to meeting global energy demand and opportunities. 'With this acquisition, we will continue to deliver the reliability and intelligence the grid, data centres and communities need to thrive in a world of growing energy needs.' With 15 years of integration experience and more than 65 configurations from 22 global vendors, FlexGen is well-equipped to provide immediate continuity and support for Powin customers. FlexGen's Remote Operations Centre (ROC) is expected to achieve enhanced system visibility, ensuring seamless service for Powin customers. Offerings such as the HybridOS controls software, lifecycle services and analytics modules from FlexGen will provide further insights and ensure best-in-class system availability. FlexGen's CFO Gary Cristini stated: 'Our top priority is customer success and delivering immediate operational stability, maximising the value and performance of their systems. FlexGen's proven financial strength means we're a capital-light software and services partner that will remain in business to deliver on our customer promises. 'We thank Powin for their early-mover role in shaping the dynamic and important grid-scale battery market and honour our commitment to carry on that legacy and deliver exceptional uptime, reliability and customer success.' In April 2025, Trina Storage, a provider of energy storage solutions, partnered with FlexGen to implement a 371 megawatt hours BESS in Houston, Texas, US. "FlexGen acquires Powin assets to enhance energy storage solutions" was originally created and published by Power Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
