ChatGPT as your therapist? You are doing a big mistake, warn Stanford University researchers
AI therapy chatbots are gaining attention as tools for mental health support, but a new study from Stanford University warns of serious risks in their current use. Researchers found that these chatbots, which use large language models, can sometimes stigmatise users with certain mental health conditions and respond in ways that are inappropriate or even harmful. Stanford study finds therapy chatbots may stigmatise users and respond unsafely in mental health scenarios.(Pexels) The study, titled 'Expressing stigma and inappropriate responses prevent LLMs from safely replacing mental health providers,' evaluated five popular therapy chatbots. The researchers tested these bots against standards used to judge human therapists, looking for signs of bias and unsafe replies. Their findings will be presented at the ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency later this month. However, the study revealed 'significant risks' in relying on them for mental health care. The researchers ran two key experiments to explore these concerns. AI Chatbots Showed Stigma Toward Certain Conditions In the first experiment, the chatbots received descriptions of various mental health symptoms. They were then asked questions like how willing they would be to work with a person showing those symptoms and whether they thought the person might be violent. The results showed the chatbots tended to stigmatise certain conditions, such as alcohol dependence and schizophrenia, more than others, like depression. Jared Moore, the lead author and a Ph.D. candidate in computer science, noted that newer and larger models were just as likely to show this bias as older ones. Also read: OpenAI prepares to take on Google Chrome with AI-driven browser, launch expected in weeks Unsafe and Inappropriate Responses Found The second experiment tested how the chatbots responded to real therapy transcripts, including cases involving suicidal thoughts and delusions. Some chatbots failed to challenge harmful statements or misunderstood the context. For example, when a user mentioned losing their job and then asked about tall bridges in New York City, two chatbots responded by naming tall structures rather than addressing the emotional distress. Also read: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7 FE, and Watch 8: Here's everything announced at Galaxy Unpacked July event The researchers concluded that AI therapy chatbots are not ready to replace human therapists. However, they see potential for these tools to assist in other parts of therapy, such as handling administrative tasks or supporting patients with activities like journaling. Haber emphasised the need for careful consideration of AI's role in mental health care going forward.

Missed these 6 key checks after a Samsung security update? You could be at risk
Samsung regularly releases security patches to keep devices safe from threats like malware and data theft. While these updates might not grab headlines like new operating system releases, they play a crucial role in protecting your phone and personal information. Once a security patch has been installed, Samsung users should review certain settings to ensure that their device continues to run smoothly and securely. Samsung users should check these key settings after every security update to maintain device security and performance.(Samsung) Samsung devices benefit from Samsung Knox, a security platform offering multiple layers of protection, including data encryption and real-time threat monitoring. Still, security updates can sometimes reset or change settings, which is why users should perform a quick check after each patch. Here are six key things Samsung users should verify after installing a security update: 1. Review App Permissions Although app permissions typically remain unchanged after a security patch, it's wise to review them regularly. Check permissions for any new apps or those you've recently reactivated. Limiting unnecessary permissions reduces the risk of data exposure through third-party applications. Also read: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7 FE, and Watch 8: Here's everything announced at Galaxy Unpacked July event 2. Check Biometric Authentication Biometric data like fingerprints and facial recognition usually stay intact after updates, but confirming this is a good habit. Some updates improve biometric algorithms, so if you experience recognition issues, try resetting your biometric data or ensuring your phone's software is fully updated. 3. Re-check Charging Settings Security patches can sometimes reset charging preferences. Review settings like fast charging and super fast charging, especially if you own devices like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus or Ultra. Disabling fast charging can help extend battery lifespan when you don't need a quick boost. Also read: OpenAI prepares to take on Google Chrome with AI-driven browser, launch expected in weeks 4. Review Battery Settings Battery optimisation settings might revert to default after an update, potentially causing faster battery drain. Check features like battery protection, which manages charging thresholds to avoid overcharging. Samsung offers options that limit charging to 80% while you sleep or prevent constant 100% charging, both helping preserve battery health. 5. Re-evaluate Security Settings Security settings might reset to default after updates. Double-check important features such as two-factor authentication, Find My Mobile options, and theft protection tools like Identity Check and Remote Lock. These settings help safeguard your device and personal data. Also read: Samsung Galaxy S25 review: Flagship features in a handful package 6. Verify Update Success Finally, confirm that the security patch was installed correctly. Go to the Software Information section to see the current security patch level. You should also check Google Play system updates to ensure your apps receive the latest vulnerability fixes and performance improvements. In short, by taking these post-update steps, Samsung users can make the most of their device's security features and avoid disruptions. Also, regular checks after security patches will help you maintain optimal performance and strengthen your defence against digital threats.

Samsung likely to launch its first tri-fold phone by end of 2025
Samsung's big July Unpacked event may have introduced a bunch of new foldables (Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE) and smartwatches (Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic), but there was one device many fans had their eye on — and it never made an appearance. The company's long-rumoured tri-fold smartphone, aka the Galaxy G Fold, was expected to be teased at the event, but Samsung chose not to talk about it. That didn't stop the buzz, though. Now, just a day after the showcase, fresh reports confirm that the tri-fold phone is very much real and is expected to launch by the end of 2025. And this time, the confirmation comes straight from the to The Korea Times, Samsung's mobile boss, TM Roh, has officially confirmed that the company is actively working on a tri-folding phone. Speaking to select journalists after the Unpacked event, he revealed that Samsung is planning to release the device later this year. He said the company is focused on perfecting both the product and its usability, though the name hasn't been decided yet. This is the first time Samsung has publicly acknowledged the launch timeline for the tri-fold there's no official image or teaser yet, earlier leaks have suggested that the device could feature a 10-inch OLED panel that folds twice into a compact form. It may also run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and be priced upwards of $2,900 (roughly Rs 2.49 lakh). However, the first-gen model might be a limited release, with reports suggesting it could launch only in South Korea and China initially. A global rollout is likely only in 2026, once the second-gen model is ready. Back at the Unpacked event, Samsung had plenty of other announcements to keep the spotlight on its foldable line-up. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 were both made official with slimmer bodies, brighter displays, and AI upgrades across the board. The Fold 7 is now lighter than even the Galaxy S25 Ultra and comes with a larger 8-inch inner display. The Flip 7 now has a 4.1-inch cover screen that wraps around the camera and a larger 6.9-inch internal also added a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE to its portfolio — a first for the Flip series — bringing the foldable form factor to more users at a lower price. On the wearable side, the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic were launched with a thinner design, new AI-powered health tools, and better battery life. Both watches also come with Google's Gemini AI assistant built in.- Ends

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE costs Rs 20,000 less than Galaxy Z Flip 7, here is the full specs breakdown
Samsung's new foldables are finally here, and while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 might be the showstopper, don't sleep on the Flip series. This year, Samsung has done something different — and quite interesting — by introducing a Fan Edition version of its clamshell foldable. Say hello to the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. It's priced at a cool Rs 20,000 less than the regular Galaxy Z Flip 7, making it the most affordable Flip phone Samsung has launched. But don't be fooled by the FE tag — this is still a feature-packed foldable with enough under the hood to make it worth your attention. Let's break it and buildBoth the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE come with the same Gorilla Glass Victus 2 panels and a sturdy Armor Aluminum frame. So, in terms of durability, they're on equal footing. But if you look closely, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the sleeker one here. It's thinner — 13.9mm folded versus 14.9mm on the FE — and has a slightly more polished feel. You'll also get flashier colours with the regular Galaxy Z Flip 7: Blue Shadow, Jetblack, Coralred, and Mint (Samsung website exclusive). The Flip 7 FE keeps it simple with black and Galaxy Z Flip 7 goes big on screens. Its 4.1-inch cover display stretches across the front and feels like a proper mini phone. It's responsive, fast at 120Hz, and very bright with 2,600 nits of peak brightness. Open it up, and you get a tall 6.9-inch AMOLED panel with the same high refresh rate and brightness — great for videos, scrolling, and split-screen use. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, by comparison, gets a smaller 3.4-inch cover screen with a standard 60Hz refresh rate and a lower peak brightness of 1,600 nits. The inner display is slightly smaller too, at 6.7 inches, but still offers 120Hz refresh and 2,600 nits. It's still a sharp, vibrant panel — just a bit scaled and softwarePowering the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is Samsung's own Exynos 2500 chip, paired with 12GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. You also get Samsung DeX support, so you can plug in and get a PC-like experience on a monitor. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE gets the Exynos 2400, 8GB RAM and tops out at 256GB storage — still solid, but not as phones ship with One UI 8 based on Android 16, and you'll find the same suite of AI features on both, including Gemini Live and Now hardware is identical on both models: a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 10-megapixel selfie shooter inside. That said, the Galaxy Z Flip 7's newer chip should help with image processing, and its larger cover screen can be used for framing better selfies. So while photos will likely be close in quality, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 may offer a slightly better shooting experience and chargingadvertisementHere's another small win for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 — it packs a 4,300mAh battery versus 4,000mAh on the FE. Samsung claims you'll get up to 31 hours of video playback on the Flip 7, and around 24 hours on the FE. Both phones support 25W wired and 15W wireless charging, which is decent enough for day-to-day upThe Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is clearly aimed at users who want the Flip experience without paying flagship money. Starting at Rs 89,999 for the 128GB model and Rs 95,999 for the 256GB version, it covers the basics well — same core camera hardware, similar software experience, and the same sturdy build. Yes, the screen's a bit smaller, performance is a notch lower, and there's no DeX, but for the price, it's a pretty good said, if you don't mind spending more, the regular Galaxy Z Flip 7 offers a better overall experience. You get a sleeker build, a more usable and responsive cover display, a more powerful Exynos 2500 chip, higher 12GB RAM, and support for Samsung DeX. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is priced at Rs 1,09,999 for the 256GB model and Rs 1,21,999 for the 512GB version. So for Rs 20,000 more, you're getting a more premium foldable experience.- Ends

Gemini on Android just got a small but handy usability upgrade
AssembleDebug / Android Authority TL;DR Google is rolling out a new gesture to launch Gemini in full screen from the small overlay at the bottom of the screen. This change was spotted in May and is now functional on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and possibly the Flip 7 and the Flip 7 FE. In addition to those announcements, Google has begun rolling out a new gesture that allows for easy switching between the floating Gemini overlay and the Gemini app in full-screen mode. You will now notice a small horizontal bar at the top of the mini Gemini overlay. When you hold and swipe on this bar upwards, the overlay will transition to the Gemini app, where you can continue the conversation with the AI assistant. Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority The gesture effectively reduces one step by replacing the previous button to launch Gemini in full-screen mode, which would appear once you begin a conversation. We spotted this new Gemini full-screen gesture back in May 2025. My colleague Mishaal Rahman has confirmed that this new swipe gesture for launching Gemini is already working on their new Galaxy Z Fold 7. The new gesture has arrived first on the newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 7, and possibly the Flip 7 and the Flip 7 FE. Since Google has already confirmed that all new features coming to these foldables will be available for other manufacturers soon, the same can be expected of the slightly updated Gemini overlay.
