Sarasota County man wins $25 million jackpot, largest ever for Florida Lottery scratch game

A Sarasota County man has won the largest jackpot ever offered on a Florida Lottery scratch-off game. Kyle Lindquist, 45, of Venice, claimed his record-breaking $25 million prize on April 18, 2025, at the Lottery's Fort Myers District Office. He opted for a one-time, lump-sum payment of $16 million, Florida Lottery officials reported. Lindquist bought the winning 500X THE CASH Scratch-Off game ticket for $50 at Circle K, 101 U.S. Bypass S. in Venice. The retailer received a $50,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket. "The $50 500X THE CASH Scratch-Off game features a top prize of $25 million — the largest ever offered on a Florida Scratch-Off game — and the best odds to become an instant millionaire!" the Florida Lottery said in a news release on its website. According to the Florida Lottery, the 500X THE CASH game offers $1.66 billion in cash prizes. The game's overall odds of winning are 1 in 4.23. Two days earlier, on April 16, Gary Moore of Bradenton claimed a $1 million prize from the same game. That ticket was purchased at a Bradenton Circle K. Woman goes big with $50 Florida Lottery ticket and wins life-changing prize

Spending $50 on a single lottery ticket is a big gamble for most people, but it ended in a huge lottery win for one Florida woman. Elizabeth Stewart, 58, bought the 500X the Cash ticket at Publix in her hometown of Mount Dora, and a series of scratches quickly revealed she had won $1 million, according to the Florida Lottery. That's a second-tier prize in the game and the odds of winning it are 1-in-274,004, the lottery said. Stewart picked up her winnings Wednesday, April 9, and was given a choice of having it parceled out over time or taking it in a lump sum — minus a lot of tax withholding. 'She chose to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000,' lottery officials said. Stewart was clearly aiming high when she bought the 500X the Cash ticket, which has a $25 million top prize — 'the largest ever offered on a Florida Scratch-Off game.' Two top prizes were offered when the game launched in January 2024, and the odds of winning one is an intimidating 1-in-21,920,355. (Only one top prize remains.) Mount Dora is about a 35-mile drive northwest of Orlando. The Publix store where Stewart bought the ticket got a $2,000 commission 'for selling the winning scratch-off ticket,' lottery officials said.

Gas station customer wins life-changing prize after buying $50 Florida Lottery ticket

A 35-year-old man's trip to the gas station changed his life when he spent $50 on a single lottery ticket and won big. Joseph Martin, 35, of Jacksonville, beat odds of 1 in 274,004 to win a second-tier prize of $1 million, the Florida Lottery said in a Feb. 26 news release. Martin had to make a choice of whether to go with annual payments or get a lump sum. He chose the lump of cash, which came to $640,000 after withholdings, the lottery reported. The ticket was purchased at a Gate convenience store on Collins Road in Jacksonville and the station gets a $2,000 commission for selling the winning ticket, officials said. The game launched with two top prizes of $25 million — 'largest ever offered on a Florida Scratch-Off game' — and one remains. Odds of winning $25 million are 1 in 21,920,355. One of the $25 million top prizes was won in December by a convenience store patron in Venice, and the person declined to reveal their name. The big winner opted for a lump sum of $16 million.
