Jenna Fischer Says the Later Seasons of ‘The Office' Are ‘Really Good' Despite ‘Belief' that the Show Was ‘Treading Water' After Steve Carell's Exit: ‘There Were Still These Amazing Storylines'
As one of the show's most iconic characters, it's fitting that Jenna Fischer has love for every season of 'The Office.' Fischer, who played Pam Beesly across 188 episodes of the classic NBC workplace comedy, revisited all 201 episodes of 'The Office' and documented her journey on her 'Office Ladies' podcast. She finished the series in October, and in a recent conversation on Dana Carvey and David Spade's 'Fly on the Wall' podcast, she shared one of her major takeaways. She explained that there is a consensus that after series frontman Steve Carell exited the show in Season 7, the series took a nose dive in quality. However, upon her rewatch, Fischer found this to be a misconception. 'I think there was this lore, especially among the cast and the creatives, that maybe we hit our peak in Season 3 or Season 4,' Fischer added. 'And also this belief that the two seasons after Steve left, we were just treading water and maybe they weren't as good. But when I watched everything, some of my favorite episodes were in seasons 8 and 9 after Steve had left. There were still these amazing storylines.' She added that her favorite era of the show was 'seasons 4 through 6,' shouting out 'Dinner Party' in Season 4 as a standout episode. Although the original 'Office' ended in May of 2013, Peacock recently unveiled a spinoff series titled 'The Paper.' The official logline for the show reads, 'The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.' The Office's Jenna Fischer Defends ‘Really Good' Show After Steve Carell's Exit
Jenna Fischer loves , even the seasons after Steve Carell's exit. Fischer, who played Pam Beesley for all nine seasons, recently wrapped Office Ladies, a rewatch podcast series with fellow cast member Angela Kinsey. After watching all 201 episodes, Fischer has some thoughts about the later seasons. One of the more heated debates involving The Office revolves around the show's final two seasons. Noticeably absent from Seasons 8 and 9 is Carell, who played Michael Scott. Carell exited the show after the seventh season. Many consider Michael's departure a turning point in the show, as The Office's final two seasons were less celebrated and received more criticism. Fischer recently spoke about The Office on Fly on the Wall with Dan Carvey and David Spade. After completing the podcast, Fischer defended the quality of Seasons 8 and 9. 'My biggest takeaway from having rewatched it was that it's really good the whole time,' Fischer told Carvey and Spade. Fischer is aware of the criticism the show received post-Carell. However, Fischer notes that some of her favorite moments happened in those final two seasons. 'I think there was this lore, especially among the cast and the creatives, that maybe we hit our peak in Season 3 or Season 4,' Fischer explained. 'And also this belief that the two seasons after Steve left, we were just treading water and maybe they weren't as good. But when I watched everything, some of my favorite episodes were in Seasons 8 and 9 after Steve had left. There were still these amazing storylines.' Fischer's favorite moments occurred between Seasons 4 and 6, which include the Dinner Party episode and the Michael Scott Paper Company storyline. The Office ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013. All 201 episodes are streaming on Peacock. The post The Office's Jenna Fischer Defends 'Really Good' Show After Steve Carell's Exit appeared first on - Movie Trailers, TV & Streaming News, and More.

‘The Office' Star Jenna Fischer Says Getting Fired for Sneaking Into an ‘SNL' Party Was Worth It: ‘I Met Molly Shannon'
Jenna Fischer said a former boss gave her the boot after she lied about being sick so she could attend a 'Saturday Night Live' party. But it all worked out because she was able to meet Molly Shannon. 'I'm a huge 'Saturday Night Live' nerd,' Fischer explained during an appearance on the the 'Fly on the Wall' podcast which Dana Carvey and David Spade co-host. 'The greatest part about being on 'The Office' and being on NBC was that I got to breathe the same air as 'Saturday Night Live' people — that we would have to be at the same corporate parties together. I was a total groupie.' Prior to her days starring on 'The Office,' Fischer worked as a typist, and as part of her job's perks, she was assigned to transcribe TV Critics Association events. If she finished all her work on time, she was free to enjoy the rest of event. An upcoming event just so happened to be one for the hit NBC sketch series, and that's when she started plotting her attendance. 'I started pretending like I didn't feel good, because I was going to make an excuse that I was sick so that I could get off work on time and then sneak into this party,' Fischer said, mentioning that she worked a portion of her workday before leaving her job and switching into her outfit for the night in her car. 'I sneak into the party and I can't even tell you, it was amazing. Norm MacDonald, I'm looking at him in the flesh,' Fischer said. 'I can't, my mind is blown. Then I see Molly Shannon and I think, 'I'm going to do it. I'm going to go say hi to Molly Shannon.'' And her moment happened. 'She looked at me, took me by the shoulders, looked me deep in the eyes and said, 'Don't give up,'' Fisher shared. ''Whatever you do, don't give up. It took me 10 years to get on 'Saturday Night Live,' and my best advice to you is just know it'll happen eventually if you just stick with it.'' In addition to the cast and crew behind 'Saturday Night Live,' there were more people who attended the party that she was familiar with … her boss and all her coworkers. Ultimately, the actress was let go from her job. However, Fischer said it all worked out in the end, as she got to meet Shannon. 'But it was fine, guys, because I met Molly Shannon, and she gave me that advice,' Fischer said, adding that 10 years later, after she had nabbed her role on 'The Office,' she saw Shannon again at the premiere for 'Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story' in 2018. That's where she told Shannon the backstory. 'I got to go up to her and I got to say, 'Molly Shannon, here's this story. You told me, 10 years.' She was like, 'And look! It's 10 years later, and here you are!'' Fischer said of the moment. 'Is that the greatest thing ever?' You can listen to the full 'Fly on the Wall' podcast here. Revealed: Why Lorne Michaels told Jack Black he thought Desi Arnaz was going to die during 1976 ‘SNL' episode
We love hearing stories from the vault. On Wednesday, Jack Black appeared on David Spade and Dana Carvey's 'Fly on the Wall' podcast where he reflected on what 'SNL' creator Lorne Michaels told him when he hosted the show last month. 'Lorne said the funniest thing. I don't think he was trying to be funny,' the actor, 55, explained. 'After the rehearsal, when he saw me do the tiger roll and he saw me doing that rockin' number, and he saw me sweating and wheezing, he said, 'I just want to tell you a story.' 'And he was getting up there, he was in his 70s. And I wanted him on, because I just thought, yes he's older, but he's an icon.' Arnaz hosted season one episode 14 on February 21, 1976, but Black recounted that the creator told him that 'Desi was kind of struggling.' Arnaz, who was married to Lucille Ball from 1940 to 1960, wanted to perform his 'Babalú' number, which was his signature performance for his character Ricky Ricardo from 'I Love Lucy.' 5 Desi Arnaz on 'Saturday Night Live.' NBCUniversal via Getty Images The Babalú saw Arnaz singing while playing the drums with a band behind him. The piece originated on the sitcom — which ran for six seasons from 1951 to 1957 — but Arnaz continued to do it long after the series ended. 'Lorne was a little worried about it. Can he still pull it off?' Black told Carvey, 69, and Spade, 60. 'And he was doing it, but he could see that he was starting to sweat and really struggle physically while he was 'Babalú'-ing and he wouldn't stop.' 'Then he looked closer on the screen and he's like, 'Desi's lips started to turn blue' and he started to worry like, 'Oh, he's about to die,' ' he continued. 'And he just pulled the plug on it and said, 'Just go to commercial, whatever.' ' Black didn't know what to make of Michaels' remarks, sharing, 'I was like, 'Wait a second, are you telling me this story because you're worried I'm going to die [appearing on 'SNL']?' 5 Jack Black on 'Saturday Night Live.' Will Heath/NBC 'Lorne was a little worried,' admitted Black. 'He was just warning me not to go too hard. Because if I went full hard as a motherf–ker, that I could die.' The 'Goosebumps' actor is no stranger to Studio 8H, as he has hosted 'Saturday Night Live' in 2002, 2003, 2005 and again this year. 'Just so you know, having lots of nightmares and night terrors and also fond memories flooding back. It's crazy, very exciting,' teased Black. 'You know what they're thinking about right now? They are just all in a dead coma from last night's show,' the star said of the cast and writers. 'Maybe some of them are thinking of some ideas, but I'm really thinking it's one of those shows they put together in one week, that's part of the excitement.' 5 'Saturday Night Live.' Rosalind O'Connor/NBC Black said he loves 'all those kids' currently on Season 50. 'I call them kids because I was on that show before some of them were born — except for Kenan [Thompson], we're around the same age. That's about it,' he confessed. Michaels created the sketch comedy show on Oct. 11, 1975. A variety of A-listers got their star on the series, including Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poehler, Mike Myers, Chevy Chase, Will Ferrell and Tina Fey.
