Samsung silently outs the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 names

Samsung has teased us with what appears to be an upcoming 'Ultra' version of its next foldable phone, but it appears the South Korean firm has inadvertently also confirmed the names for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. While the press release itself doesn't name either device, Samsung has included a teasing GIF image which shows us the silhouette of a foldable device – presumably the 'Ultra' handset described in the copy. Recommended Videos Again, this image doesn't drop any names visually… but I did spot the file name for the image holds information which, up until now, has not been announced by the firm. Samsung has named the image 'Galaxy-Z-Fold7-Z-Flip7-Pre-tease-Bartype_1920x1080.gif'. As you can see in the image below, the file name in the URL bar not only name drops the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but interesting also the Z Flip 7. It's unclear why the latter would also be included in a file name of an image which clearly shows a fold device and not a flip – but it's also curious the names were included in this way at all. Surprising reveal, unsurprising names Considering the Z Fold naming convention can be traced all the way back to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 from 2020, it's hardly a surprise that Samsung's foldable updates for 2025 will continue the numerical increments we've seen over the years (unless Samsung pulls a major iOS 19 to iOS 26 rebranding project on us). The Galaxy Z Fold Z and Z Flip 7 names were very much expected to be used when the next generation handsets are announced later this year – possibly as soon as next month. What is surprising however, is the manner of the initial name drop. Is this a minor slip-up in the image-naming department, or a niche Easter egg Samsung put into the world to see if it would be spotted? What we really want to know is whether the teased 'Ultra' handset will be an additional handset alongside the Fold 7 and Flip 7, giving us a trio of new foldables, or if the Fold will just see Ultra added to its name from now on. There may not be long to wait, if reports of a July launch are accurate.

Samsung wants the world to know the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 will be like no previous foldable

After leading the way among the world's top Android smartphone vendors in terms of quick, stable, and expansive software updates the last few years, Samsung unquestionably dropped the ball with the One UI 7 rollout, which started many months behind schedule and ran into a host of different issues on a number of different devices . But because this is a company that tends to learn from its mistakes, it perhaps shouldn't come as a shock that the One UI 8 update will be an entirely different story, at least if Samsung's current plans don't get derailed by any unexpected bugs. Said next-gen foldable devices are not officially named yet, but everyone knows we're talking about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 here, and a first-of-a-kind budget-friendly Z Flip FE (or Flip Xe) could join the two predictable sequels to the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 at an Unpacked event in July. This is allegedly the next-gen Z Fold 7 in the flesh. | Image Credit -- Setsuna Digital on Weibo Of course, we don't have an exact date for that Unpacked shindig either, but it's pretty clear that Samsung's 2025 foldables will run the latest One UI iteration a lot earlier than usual. The aforementioned Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 , mind you, barely received their Android 15 -based One UI 7 goodie packs last month (after a couple of failed attempts), while the summer 2023-released Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 joined the stable One UI 6 party more than three months after their commercial debut. Clearly, Samsung is looking to turn the page to an exciting new chapter from a software support standpoint, doing something that has never been done before and many thought was impossible to do. Obviously, this wouldn't have been possible without Google, and the industry-leading smartphone maker is giving credit where credit is due, praising the search giant for its great partnership, "open communication", and "real-time feedback." This all allowed Samsung to kick off an unusually early One UI 8 public beta program for Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra users in Germany, Korea, the UK, and the US today, with the next step taking place "this summer" for the company's aforementioned new foldables, likely followed by a stable global update for the S25 family. Probably not. Sorry, Samsung, but your foldable sales struggles look far too serious to be fixed with new software... that's likely to quickly expand to the Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 anyway. Fortunately, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is widely expected to increase the size of its predecessor's 7.6 and 6.3-inch screens (most likely, to around 8.2 and 6.5 inches respectively) while also upgrading the primary rear-facing camera from 50 to 200 megapixels. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will likely rock an all-screen cover design. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 , meanwhile, should ditch its own predecessor's sleek but small 3.4-inch folder-style cover display in favor of a larger and more straightforward 4-inch secondary panel while slightly bumping up the sizes of the main screen and battery as well. On top of everything, the raw power will naturally be improved too, not to mention the Z Fold 7's reduced thickness and the Z Flip 7's familiar but undeniably stylish design. All in all, of course, it remains hard to predict how the two flexible Snapdragon 8 Elite powerhouses will do at the global box-office, but running a fresh new set of silky smooth software optimizations and UI treats certainly won't hurt their sales figures.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 now 'confirmed' to mark the Exynos 2500's belated debut

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip7 is expected to become official alongside the Fold7 in early July, and there has been some confusion regarding the chipset that will be powering it. Today, a new report claims to 'confirm' (as much as any rumor can) that Samsung's Exynos 2500 SoC will finally make its debut in the Galaxy Z Flip7. The Exynos 2500 was destined for the Galaxy S25 family, but Samsung had to give up on it because of yield issues with production. That's why the Snapdragon 8 Elite is in there instead. But now, apparently those yield issues have been fixed, or with the Flip7's lower projected sales numbers, they don't matter. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 That is, of course, if this rumor pans out. The source goes on to claim that the Exynos 2500 will be used in most countries, including India and Korea. It's the first time an Exynos features in a foldable Samsung device, so it's a pretty big deal. Samsung may allegedly use the Snapdragon 8 Elite in China and North America only. The Exynos 2500 has a ten-core CPU with one Cortex-X925 cores clocked at up to 3.3 GHz, two Cortex-A725 cores clocked at up to 2.75 GHz, five Cortex-A725 cores clocked at up to 2.36 GHz, and two Cortex-A520 cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz. The GPU is the Xclipse 950 based on AMD RDNA 3.5 architecture. Source

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7's full dimensions leak, the folding screen will have smaller bezels

A couple of days ago the prolific Chinese leaker who goes by Ice Universe (or Ice Cat more recently) has shared the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7's thickness - 3.9mm when unfolded, 8.9mm when folded. That would make it the thinnest book-style foldable ever when unfolded, beating even the current king, Oppo's Find N5, which is 4.2mm thick. Today he's back with the Fold7's full dimensions, which are said to be 158.4 x 143.1 x 3.9 mm when unfolded. Compared to its predecessor, it's taller and wider, and of course thinner. It obviously also beats the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which was so far Samsung's thinnest foldable. The inner folding screen's bezels will also be thinner, according to the same source. Pictured below is the Fold6's bezel, which allegedly measures 1.9mm. The Fold7 will take that down to a rather incredible 1mm, while the Flip7's bezel will be 1.2mm. So with all of this in mind, it seems like Samsung has finally noticed that its Chinese competitors have it really beat when it comes to foldable device thinness, and decided to actually compete on this spec. Unfortunately, the battery capacity will remain the same 4,400 mAh in the Fold7 as in its predecessor - perhaps we have to wait another year for Samsung to get that memo too.
