Could New England see a spectacular fall foliage season? Here's what experts say
People traveling to see New England's fall foliage often have to plan their vacations early. One expert is offering his advice. Photographer and leaf peeping expert Jeff Folger, nicknamed Jeff Foliage, believes this year could have a 'spectacular fall foliage season.' But, he warns, this is 'barring any dramatic weather over the next two months' as his July prediction is earlier than most offer. He said that a drought in New England is still a possibility but it's less likely than in 2024, which is a good thing. Starting around Sept. 20, fall foliage vacationers should head to Stratton, Maine where he expects the earliest fall colors. However, it won't be widespread colors by then. It might be better to wait until Sept. 25. The bright vibrant colors will start to make their way to New Hampshire and Vermont around Oct. 1. But don't go to Vermont expecting color prior to October. Massachusetts typically sees color after the further north states. Folger didn't share any early predictions for the commonwealth. 'The bottom line is there are no guarantees as far as the weather goes, and the day-to-day weather is critical to what happens,' he wrote. Last year, the weekend of Oct. 4 to Oct. 6 was the 'best weekend for the most northern tier of New England leaf peeping,' according to Yankee Magazine. In Massachusetts, peak leaf peeping hit the state in the Berkshires around Oct. 20. The majority of the state hit the peak a week later on Oct. 27. Other 2025 predictions Explore Fall, a website dedicated to fall foliage, predicts northern New England to start seeing rich colors by Oct. 10. Massachusetts is expected to have beautiful leaves starting around Oct. 18 with a full peak being closer to Oct. 28. Leaf peeping season will be over by Nov. 13. Farmer's Almanac predicts much of New England will be at or near peak fall color by Oct. 11. Massachusetts is expected to be at its peak around Oct. 20 but we could start seeing changes in leaves in September. Similar predictions were made in 2024. The Smoky Mountains' map has some of the earliest predictions. Leaf peeping in Massachusetts, according to the map, could start as early as Sept. 23 with peak fall foliage hitting by Oct. 7. And Massachusetts could be past its peak by Oct. 21. But the changing leaves don't have to dictate your fall vacation vibes, Folger advised. 'Autumn is a state of mind more than a time of year,' he wrote. TikTokers are proudly proclaiming nepo baby status in the latest viral trend
Descendants of wealthy families — or so they say — are flexing their lineage for millions of views. A slew of TikTok videos of people shouting out their family's involvement in industry giants have gone viral. This trend, known as the "holy airball," is set to rapper Jeezy's "Soul Survivor." "Told her my dad runs a makeup company," Dhruv Amin, the son of ELF Cosmetics CEO Tarang Amin, posted on TikTok, in one example. "She said, 'Oh like a boutique,'" the next slide read. Then the reveal, captioned: "HOLY AIRBALL." Some commenters immediately recognized the satirical videos as jokes, while others lamented over their wealthy status or called them a "nepo baby." "I'm afraid you win this trend," one commenter wrote under Amin's TikTok. Amin's father just closed a $1 billion deal with Hailey Bieber to acquire the beauty brand Rhode. ELF confirmed Amin's identity to Business Insider. Amin's post was a stunt to bring attention to his artificial intelligence startup, Create. Many of the other posts appear to be jokes. A TikToker with the last name Khan said her dad owns the study platform Khan Academy, though the company said it couldn't verify that claim, and her name doesn't match the one it has on file for founder Sal Khan's child. Dan Folger, a photographer, posted that his family was involved in the coffee business. Folger (the man) told BI that he has no connection to the Folgers coffee brand. Like other videos that follow the trend, Folger's starts with, "I told her my family was in the coffee business." On the next slide: "She replied 'aw like a little coffee shop?'" Then, he completes the trend with a photo of a Folgers factory and #holyfuckingairball — a basketball reference for when a shot widely misses the net. As of Thursday morning, Folger's video had 5.4 million views. Some TikTok users included photos to show their relationships with high-powered CEOs. James C. Fish is the CEO of Waste Management, which reported $22 billion in revenue for 2024. A woman with the last name Fish posted photos with him in a now-deleted TikTok video. Others claimed connections to General Mills-owned food brand Annie's Homegrown and the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. BI contacted Annie's, Bellagio owner MGM Resorts, and Waste Management to confirm these users' identities and did not receive a response.

Comedy improv group Scriptless in Seattle coming to Cider Mill Stage
ENDICOTT, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A comedy show that relies on quick wit and audience participation is coming to Endicott this weekend. As part of their national tour, improv comedy troupe Scriptless in Seattle is performing at the Cider Mill Stage on Friday and Saturday. Drawing inspiration from the beloved show 'Whose Line is it Anyways', the group performs improvised sketch comedy that features musicals, game shows, film noir, and more. The performance is interactive with audience members being pulled on stage to be part of the show. Group Manager Justin Folger says he laughs just as much as the audience. 'It's going to be a great time. We're going to have a lot of fun. This is unlike any comedy show you've ever seen before, I can guarantee it because I don't know what it's about yet. But on top of that, you go see a guy with a microphone and a stool, you laugh, it's great. At this show, sometimes you get to be the guy with the microphone and the stool. Maybe not in the same capacity, but you get to be in it which is really cool,' said Folger. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $30.
