Will Kneecap play Wide Awake and Glastonbury? Where the band goes from here
On May 21, it was announced that Kneecap member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh was charged with a terrorism offence. The charge – which was made under the Anglicised version of his name, Liam O'Hanna – alleges that the band member allegedly displayed a flag in support of the terrorist group Hezbollah at a gig in North London last November. It's just the latest episode in a saga that stretches back all the way to February, when the Northern Irish band got into hot water for displaying a sign that read 'Free Palestine, Fuck Israel' at their Coachella gig. That sparked an international furore, which was only heightened when the British counter-terrorism police announced that they were opening an investigation into the band's conduct at two of their London concerts in recent years. Kneecap have strongly defended themselves the whole way through. But with an actual police charge under their belts now – and a summer full of gigs on the horizon – what now for the band? And will they play Glastonbury later this year? Here's what we know. As of today, the band has given no indication of whether they will play their headline slot at the upcoming Wide Awake festival in Brockwell Park on Friday – or indeed, if they will be able to. In the meantime, Kneecap have released a statement saying that the decision to charge Ó hAnnaidh is 'political policing' and part of a 'carnival of distraction.' 'We deny this offence and will vehemently defend ourselves,' the band wrote in a statement released since the news broke. They're not backing down – so unless Wide Awake post anything in the next 24 hours, it certainly looks like their gig is going to happen. The band are scheduled to play a host of festivals around the UK – and the world – in coming months, including at Barcelona festival Primavera, Northside Festival in Denmark and at Finsbury Park in July, supporting Fontaines D.C. Some of these (like that at the Eden Project) have already been cancelled. There has also been controversy over the remaining gigs. According to the Daily Mail, a group of music industry agents have allegedly written to Glastonbury, urging the organisers to ban them from playing. The email chain was apparently leaked to Kneecap, who threatened to take legal action in return. So far, Glastonbury themselves have said nothing about whether or not the band will be playing for the festival, which this year starts on June 26. In terms of the legal situation, Ó hAnnaidh is due to appear in front of the Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18, but hasn't been taken into custody. There already has been. Kneecap have already teased new music in the wake of the controversy around their Coachella set earlier this year. 'Yis don't wanna miss this one,' they wrote, in an Instagram post accompanying the news. The song, which is titled The Recap and is a collaboration with the drum and bass artist Mozey, starts with a clip of a news presenter talking about the police investigation into the band. 'There's a little bit of breaking news to bring you and that is that counter-terrorism police will investigate the rap trio Kneecap,' the presenter says. The band have form with this – their song Fine Art also featured a remix of a news report from the BBC's Steven Nolan. There are also rumours of a collab with The Streets' Mike Skinner: so stay tuned.

Fontaines D.C. Release Romance Deluxe, Featuring New Songs and David Lynch Cover: Stream
The post Fontaines D.C. Release Romance Deluxe, Featuring New Songs and David Lynch Cover: Stream appeared first on Consequence. Days ahead of kicking off their 2025 North American tour in Seattle, Fontaines D.C. have released a deluxe edition of their acclaimed 2024 album, Romance, featuring three new tracks: 'Before You I Just Forget,' the previously-released single 'It's Amazing to Be Young,' and a mash-up of 'Starburster' and David Lynch's 'In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song).' Now spanning 14 tracks in total, the deluxe version of Romance reaffirms why Consequence named the band our 2024 Band of the Year, melding their post-punk grit with dreamy moments of introspection. The new track, 'Before You I Just Forget,' does this by balancing a swaggering, almost spoken-word refrain with melodic interludes colored by string parts and chorused guitar arpeggios. Get Fontaines D.C. Tickets Here Speaking about 'Before You I Just Forget,' the band's Conor Curley said the song 'started with a vision of this really blown out sound, something that heaved and shifted with new details, becoming apparent every time you would listen.' In its final form, the song 'morphs and changes,' Curley continued, 'like never being able to step in the same river twice.' Concluding, he commended the 'incredible string part by Grian [Chatten].' As for 'Starburster / In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song),' the mash-up serves as both a celebration for the late David Lynch (who passed this past January) and a as a platform to place the band's hit — and one of the best songs of 2024 — 'Starburster,' in a new stripped-back context, with a piano-led arrangement and raw, intimate vocals from Chatten. Stream the new tracks below. As for their 2025 tour, Fontaines D.C. will kick off their North American leg on April 17th, with stops booked in Seattle, Dallas, Atlanta, Detroit, and more cities (get tickets). In May, they'll wrap the US tour with a three-night run at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, and will then hop the pond for a European tour beginning in June. Artwork: Tracklist: 01. Romance 02. ADVERTISEMENT Ahead of Record Store Day, which takes place this coming Saturday, we've got some stats for you. Indeed, the Official Charts Company has released data on the best-selling vinyl albums from the last decade, and it may not surprise you to find out that pop superstar Taylor Swift is leading the pack - even overtaking the legendary David Bowie. Swift charts an impressive three albums in the top four best-selling vinyls of the past decade. Her 2022 album ' Midnights ' tops the list with 129,000 sales in the UK (despite it being her weakest release), and the 2024 and 2023 albums ' The Tortured Poet's Department ' and ' 1989 (Taylor's Version) ' are both in second and fourth position respectively. See what you make of the Top 10 releases of the last decade: Taylor Swift - 'Midnights' Taylor Swift - 'The Tortured Poets Department' Harry Styles - 'Harry's House' Taylor Swift - '1989 (Taylor's Version)' David Bowie - 'Legacy' Harry Styles - 'Fine Line' Ed Sheeran - 'Divide' David Bowie - 'Blackstar' Billie Eilish - 'When We Fall Asleep Where Do We Go' Tame Impala - 'Currents' Elsewhere, the best-selling vinyl albums of 2025 (so far) were revealed, with UK singer-songwriter Sam Fender topping the list with his third album 'People Watching'. Not that Taylor was far behind, as her 'Lover (Live From Paris)' record came in second, an album which had a resurgence earlier this year thanks to special edition heart-shaped Valentine's Day release. Here are the best-selling vinyl albums of 2025 so far: Sam Fender – 'People Watching' Taylor Swift – 'Lover (Live From Paris)' Sabrina Carpenter – 'Short N' Sweet' Lady Gaga – 'MAYHEM' Chappell Roan – 'The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess' Fontaines D.C. – 'Romance' Kendrick Lamar – 'GNX' Fleetwood Mac – 'Rumours' Manic Street Preachers – 'Critical Thinking' Billie Eilish – 'Hit Me Hard And Soft' The most recent release in the list is Lady Gaga's 'MAYHEM'. In our review , we said: 'Through her varied approach to her music career, her multidisciplinary artistry, and excitingly unorthodox celebrity persona, Gaga has paved her own route to stardom. 'Mayhem' feels like the first time she's looked backwards. It's not a bad album at all, it's just not the sort of revolutionary work you hope for with a Gaga release.' As for Fontaines D.C. and Kendrick Lamar 's most recent albums, they both made our Best Albums of 2024 list . Record Store Day celebrates its 18th edition this year and is celebrated globally on Saturday 12 April. Stay tuned to Euronews Culture for our preview of the must-have RSD releases of 2025.
