Food sample check ahead of festival

Kanpur: Ahead of Raksha Bandhan , the food security and standard department on Tuesday raided food vendors and collected as many as 39 samples. The five teams visited and raided sweet and grocery shops in Rajeev Vihar, Naubasta, Kaka Dev, Indra Nagar, Saket Nagar, Choubeypur, Bilhour, Kalyanpur and collected samples of sweets among others. According to Sanjay Pratap Singh, assistant commissioner food, all samples will be sent to the lab for testing and after the lab report, action would be taken under Food Security and Standardization Act. Meanwhile, the District Magistrate appealed to the people of the district and requested that if they get information about any suspicious or adulterated food item anywhere, they should immediately inform the Food Safety Department. The DM also appealed to all food material sellers and shopkeepers not to compromise on quality during festive season. He instructed them to ensure adherence to hygiene, purity and standards of food articles. tnn
