Baji Rout sports complex to be set up in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid foundation stones and inaugurated multiple projects worth Rs 50,000 crore at Pallishree Mele ground in Dhenkanal on Wednesday. This will open employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled youth . Foundation stones were laid for mega solar power project, known as INOX Solar Limited Company, worth Rs 30,000 crore at Chhatia village near Joranda, development of Mahima Gadi at Joranda worth Rs 171 crore and Baji Rout sports complex project worth Rs 120 crore at Banamaliprasad having 100-bed sports hostel. Besides, projects worth Rs 112 crore were inaugurated. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said during his first visit to Dhenkanal, he had promised to provide employment opportunities by opening advanced industries. The solar project will create employment opportunities for 26,400 people. Dhenkanal will become an industrially developed district. This is the outcome of Ukarsha Odisha programme, Majhi said. 'We are working hard to meet the demands of people as per our election manifesto,' he said. The Chief Minister said he has given a directive to fill up 40,000 government posts in the current year. Industries Minister Sampad Swain said development has taken place in the last six months and the government is working hard to create more employment opportunities by opening new industries. Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said the Chief Minister is fulfilling promises made to the people of Dhenkanal by implementing projects and facilitating development works. Dhenkanal MP Rudra Narayan Pany urged the Chief Minister to facilitate proposal of a new National Highway on Dhenkanal-Keonjhar route.

Odisha government assures rabi crop loss compensation to farmers

BHUBANESWAR: As the low pressure-induced pre-monsoon rains have caused significant damage to rabi crops in several districts, the state government on Tuesday said compensation will be provided to the affected farmers as early as possible. The crop loss situation was reviewed at a high-level meeting attended by deputy chief minister-cum-Agriculture minister KV Singh Deo, Revenue and Disaster Management minister Suresh Pujari and Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister Krushna Chandra Patra at Lok Seva Bhawan here. After the meeting, Pujari told mediapersons that instructions have been issued to all district collectors to send reports on crop damage within the next three to four days. He said reports have already started arriving from some of the districts. After assessment of the extent of damage, the government will send the reports to the insurance companies to pay the compensation to farmers covered under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

Dhenkanal: Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra flagged off Triranga Yatra here at Baji Chowk to thank the Indian armed forces for Operation Sindoor. The operation was India's response to Pakistan for the Pahalgam terror attack. Dhenkanal MP Rudra Narayan Pany, Parjang MLA Bibhuti Bhusan Pradhan and Kamakshyanagar MLA Satrughan Jena among others took part in the Yatra. They were joined by thousands of people who participated in the Tiranga Yatra. The participants raised patriotic slogans and lauded the bravery of the armed forces. Later, at a brief public meeting, Patra urged the people to boost the confidence of Army jawans and extend support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the fight against terrorism. He came down on Pakistan for promoting cross-border terrorism.

Dhenkanal: There has been a growing demand for formation of Mahima Gadi block to be carved out of Gondia block. The Mahima Gadi, international headquarters of Mahima Dharma, is located in Joranda gram panchayat. The Mahima Gadi Anchalika Vikas Parishad has sought declaration of Joranda as a Notified Area Council and Mahima Gadi as a block. A memorandum in this regard was submitted to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari and District Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay. Mahima Dharma Babas and local citizens had also apprised the Chief Minister about the need to declare Joranda as NAC. The Parishad said for tehsil and revenue works, people face difficulties to go to Gondia block, which is far away from Joranda. Social worker Shishir Satpathy said the government needs to declare another new block, named Mahima Gadi block, for the convenience of the people. The Chief Minister, during his recent visit, had declared that more funds will be released for the development of Mahima Gadi.

CM to launch new ration cards in Puri on Thursday

BHUBANESWAR: The state government will start distribution of ration cards to new beneficiaries of National Food Security Act (NFSA) and State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) from April 24 (Thursday). Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will launch the distribution at a state-level function to celebrate the Panchayati Raj Diwas in Puri on the day. He will give away the new ration cards to few beneficiaries in the presence of all members of his council of ministers, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister Krushna Chandra Patra told mediapersons here on Tuesday. Patra said around 5.9 lakh beneficiaries have become eligible after survey and eKYC verification. The new cards will be distributed in phases at block, municipality and NAC level. The department has already instructed all block development officers, municipal commissioners and executive officers to prepare coloured ration cards with lamination. The minister said as many as 25 lakh beneficiaries still have not updated their eKYC. Officials concerned have been asked to conduct field verification to know the status of the beneficiaries and submit reports to the department based on which the final list will be prepared. 'The last date of eKYC verification of existing beneficiaries was March 31, 2025. However, we have not closed the verification option. The government is committed to ensuring that not a single eligible person is deprived of free ration,' Patra said. The CM will also disburse the sixth phase of Subhadra Yojana and launch the block-level stadium project by virtually laying the foundation stones for a few blocks in Puri. The state government has approved an outlay of `4,124 crore for construction of stadiums in all blocks over a period of five years.
