Enhanced visuals, with animation overlays, magic sparkles, confetti, and bubbles to enrich scenes. 'Sesame Street' headed to Netflix for reimagined season 56

Can you tell me how to get, how to get Sesame Street... on Netflix? Netflix is the new home for the beloved children's TV show, the streaming platform announced Monday along with a special video of Cookie Monster eating the Netflix logo. According to a press release, Elmo, Big Bird and the rest of the "Sesame Street" gang will return in an all-new, reimagined 56th season of the show. "The new season will feature fresh format changes and the return of fan-favorite segments like Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck," the press release states. "Expect new ways to play along as Cookie Monster opens his very own Cookie Cart on Sesame Street, and explore Abby's Fairy Garden, a home to surprising and delightful magical creatures." Episodes will also "center on one 11-minute story, allowing for even more character-driven humor and heart," according to the press release. "Sesame Street" will also continue to be available on PBS KIDS across its digital video and games platforms. This will make the show available to watch for free for children around the country. The news comes nearly six months after HBO and Max ended a partnership with the beloved show in December 2024 and weeks after President Donald Trump signed an executive order instructing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to " cease direct funding to NPR and PBS." PBS has been the home of "Sesame Street" since 1970. On Instagram, the official "Sesame Street" account shared a message expressing excitement about the new episodes coming to Netflix. "The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serve as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger and kinder," it read. In addition to brand-new episodes coming to Netflix later in 2025, the platform will be home to 90 hours of previous episodes of the show. Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings are the executive producers behind the show, while Emmy and NAACP award nominee Halcyon Person joins this season as head writer.

Fans thrilled as Netflix 'saves' beloved children's TV show after shock axe

Sesame Street fans have a lot to celebrate after it was confirmed that the hit series had found a new home on Netflix for the upcoming season. The iconic PBS program first premiered in November 1969, and has been an important source of entertainment and education for young people. At the end of last year, it was announced that Warner Bros Discovery would not be renewing their agreement to finance or produce new episodes on HBO Max, sparking concern for the future of Elmo, Rocco and co. 'We will continue to invest in our best-in-class programming and look forward to announcing our new distribution plans in the coming months, ensuring that Sesame Street reaches as many children as possible for generations to come,' a spokesperson said at the time. Thankfully, Netflix bosses stepped in to save the Muppets, sharing the news that the 'all-new reimagined 56th season' will be available to viewers around the world. 'Sesame Street' is saved with new Netflix streaming deal (but you can still watch on PBS)

If you'd told me 20 years ago that the company sending DVDs in the mail would one day save the most beloved PBS shows in history, I'd have thought you were crazy. On Monday, Netflix announced a deal with Sesame Workshop, giving the streamer exclusive worldwide premiere rights. After Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its "Sesame Street" streaming deal at the end of last year, the show's future remained uncertain. But now Elmo, Big Bird, and the rest of the gang are relocating to Netflix. "Sesame Street," a hallmark of children's TV for over half a century, will make its debut on the streamer later this year with an "all-new, reimagined" 56th season, along with 90 hours of previous episodes. New "Sesame Street" episodes will continue to be available on the same day on PBS and PBS Kids app in the U.S., according to the deal. Netflix also gains rights to develop video games for both 'Sesame Street' and 'Sesame Street Mecha Builders.' N IS FOR NETFLIX! Sesame Street is joining the Netflix family! Brand new episodes — as well as past seasons — will premiere later this year. 19, 2025 "This unique public-private partnership will enable us to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world with Netflix's global reach, while ensuring children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access on public television to the Sesame Street they love," Sesame Workshop CEO Sherri Westin said in a statement. The next season is shaking things up with some "fresh format changes," ditching each episode's magazine-style set-up for a single 11-minute story to allow for "even more character-driven humor and heart." In addition to format changes, season 56 will see the return of fan-favorite segments like Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck. The new run of episodes will land on the streamer in three batches. While we'd floated other potential streaming homes for "Sesame Street" like Apple Plus, Netflix makes a lot of sense. Family programming makes up 15% of Netflix's total viewing, with popular titles like "Gabby's Dollhouse," "Family Switch," and "The Monkey King" drawing in tens of millions of viewers. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. With competitors like Max shifting focus away from programming aimed at younger audiences, Netflix has an opportunity to secure its foothold. Now that it's got "Sesame Street" under its belt, it's primed to challenge Disney Plus as the de facto home for kids' content. Given "Sesame Street's" public television roots, there's bound to be some complaints about the show arriving on a paid streaming service, just as there was when "Sesame Street" went behind HBO's paywall. But making episodes available day-and-date on PBS platforms seems like a welcome compromise.
