Vladimir Putin's dad 'gouged out his mum's eye in anger-fuelled attack'

The horror incident was detailed in a new book about the Russian president's life. Vladimir Putin's father gouged out one of his mother's eye with a pitchfork when she was only 17, a bombshell new book has revealed. ‌ The alleged incident led to the Russian president's mother Maria losing the eye, and his father Volodka being forced into marriage. ‌ The strange story has been recounted in a new book, The Tsar in Person: How Vladimir Putin Fooled Us All, which goes back to his early years and life before he took charge in Moscow. ‌ It also claims the attack was a result of a "fit of rage" from his father, who is said to have come to Maria's - known as Marusya - home with male friends while she was on her own in her village in 1928, the Mirror reports. Villager Anfisa Kormilitsyna recalled: "Marusya didn't want to let them in." Anfisa added that Maria's reaction appeared to anger Volodka. She continued: "They took the pitchfork that was standing by the fence and started breaking down the gate. She got scared, ran out of the house, and raced up to the fence. ‌ "And Volodka [Vladimir senior, Putin's father] at that moment broke through the gate with the pitchfork and hit Marusya right in the face. "In short, he accidentally gouged out her eye. He took her to the hospital right away. There, Marusya's eye was removed." She continued: "So Marusya's mother threatened Volodka: if you don't marry, I'll put you on trial. So they got married. Marusya was very embarrassed about her glass eye later, never looked you in the face when talking, and tilted her head to the side." ‌ Anfisa added Putin's father had a reputation for terrorising teenage girls: "He liked to lift up girls' skirts and tie them in a knot over their heads. Co-author Roman Badanin said this was so the village boys could get a better look at the girl's knickers." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Independent Russian news outlet Proekt reported: "Putin's mother had been one-eyed since her youth because the other eye had been put out with a pitchfork in a fit of rage by the father of the future Russian leader." ‌ Despite the grim story, Putin has only ever referred to his parents as perfect. His mother was in her 40s when he was born, resulting in rumours he had been adopted or was the child of a lover. He said last year: "Never - I want to emphasise this - never did I see my father drunk. That never happened at all. I'm not even talking about my mother. I never heard a single swear word from him. Not one. Well, I'm not even talking about my mother here either." The book's authors accused the despot of covering up his personal life.
