Ellen DeGeneres accused by comic Adam Carolla of leaving her former TV chat show staff ‘scared'
Ellen DeGeneres has been accused by comic Adam Carolla of leaving her former TV chat show staff 'scared'. The 67-year-old comedian's career on the small screen has come to an end after she was branded the 'Queen of Mean' over her alleged behaviour behind the camera towards her workers. Now comic Adam, 61, has blasted the backstage atmosphere on The Ellen DeGeneres Show as terrifyingly toxic. He has spoken out after appearing on the series as a guest in 2012, and has now recalled how even producers seemed paralysed by fear around the host. Adam made his accusations during an appearance on the After Party show with Emily Dashinsky, sharing details of his experience with Ellen. He said a segment producer repeatedly warned him not to reference meat ahead of his on-air chat with the comic – who was vegan at the time. Adam said: '(I thought) this (producer) guy's scared to death. He came back 20 minutes later right before I went out, and he's like, 'OK, but don't talk about beef or meat or anything'. "I was like, 'Oh, this guy's scared to death. This guy's scared'." Adam also recounted the show's environment felt markedly different from other talk shows. He contrasted Ellen's set with programmes hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno, where he found staff more at ease and professional. Adam went on: 'Ellen's show, people were scared – real scared.' He continued: 'She's not a nice person at all. Everyone was scared of her, which means she's mean... she's not gonna be mean to me, I'm a guest on the show, right? I wouldn't know it from my exchanges, I would know it from how her staff was cowering'. Adam's revelations come amid a long‑standing debate over Ellen's alleged workplace culture. In 2020, a BuzzFeed News investigation detailed allegations of racism, intimidation and fear on the set of the host's daytime talk show, leading to an internal inquiry and the departure of several top producers. The show ended in 2022 after nearly two decades on air. Ellen responded publicly in her 2024 Netflix special For Your Approval, reflecting on being labelled 'mean' and describing her journey toward self‑acceptance. She said: 'After a lifetime of caring, I just can't anymore. So I don't.' Ellen added she took pride in who she had become four years on from the scandal. Her executive producers — Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner — issued a statement pledging to improve workplace culture, emphasising their responsibility over daily operations on the show. They contended the host's image did not align with the internal environment experienced by some staffers.

Ellen DeGeneres been hit with accusations she treated female comic pal coldly for decades
Ellen DeGeneres has been hit with accusations from a female comic she treated her coldly for decades despite the two comedians having known each other since the 1980s. The former chat show host's daytime TV series ended in 2022 amid allegations of a toxic workplace environment, and Margaret, 56, has now blasted her personality. She said during an interview on The Kelly Mantle Show, where Margaret reflected on her early days in stand-up alongside Ellen, now 67: 'Ellen was like really weird and not nice to me for most of my career.' At the time Ellen's show was cancelled she said she was 'kicked out of show business' for being 'mean'. Her comments resurfaced during the promotion of her 2023 Netflix stand-up special, For Your Approval, part of her Ellen's Last tour. Margaret also alleged her relationship with Ellen deteriorated as the latter's fame grew. 'I opened for her in the 1980s when she was a headliner in comedy clubs and not – way, way before her big fame,' she said. The comic added: 'So then, when I would do her talk show in the 2000s, she acted like we just met. And I'm like: 'B****, what?'… Like, that's weird. We go way back.' She went on to describe Ellen's behaviour as 'creepy and weird'. Margaret also accused Ellen of cutting out a segment from her talk show that involved praise from David Bowie, who appeared as a guest and reportedly mentioned Margaret enthusiastically. 'He was so excited that, the night before, that I had come to his show wearing this giant Chinese emperor outfit,' she said. Margaret added: 'He was really thrilled about it and he talked at length about it, and she cut it out of the show, which made me so mad.' According to Margaret, a producer and personal friend later contacted her privately: 'I can't believe she did this but she cut it out of the show, but you need to know that he was going on and on about your outfit. He loves you. God said your name.' Margaret said: 'I don't know if it was personal. Maybe it was for time. But still, I'm gonna take it personally, just 'cause I decided to.' Ellen has not publicly responded to Margaret's claims. After her show ended, Ellen withdrew from public life, living in Montecito, California, with her wife Portia de Rossi, 51, before the pair recently relocated to the British countryside. During her 2023 stand-up tour, Ellen addressed the backlash she faced, telling audiences: 'The hate went on for a long time and I would try to avoid looking at the news. 'The 'be kind' girl wasn't kind. That was the headline.' Speaking to Rolling Stone, she also joked: 'Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps?'

Ellen DeGeneres ditches famous blonde for shocking new look: See transformation
Ellen DeGeneres ditches famous blonde for shocking new look: See transformation Show Caption Hide Caption Oprah Winfrey embraces new weight-loss drug, talks misconceptions Oprah Winfrey openly discussed why she decided to start using medication to help her lose weight. unbranded - Entertainment Ellen DeGeneres is giving a glimpse at her life in the U.K. countryside – and her new hair. The "Ellen" sitcom star has appeared to ditch the signature bold blonde hairstyle that helped define her years on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," her former daytime talk show. In a May 4 post on Instagram, the ex-host sported a grayer, brunette style while riding on a lawn mower at her home with wife Portia de Rossi. "Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower. She was right," DeGeneres captioned the video. Days earlier, on May 1, DeGeneres posted a video of her rowing date with Rossi, which shows her hair peeking through underneath an orange hat. "Life update- Portia and I are now rowers. We've already learned so much. For example, did you know the pointy end of the boat is the front?" she wrote. "P.S. I don't know what college Portia learned to row at but I promise I won't post their name." Reports surfaced last year that DeGeneres and Rossi moved to the U.K. after the former's 2020 workplace scandal. In 2020, the former "Ellen" host faced toxic workplace claims about her talk show as BuzzFeed News reported about firsthand accounts of current and former employees who claimed that they experienced racism, fear and intimidation while working on the show. While addressing the allegations that year, the standup comedian said she "learned that things happened here that never should have happened" and apologized "to the people who were affected." In 2022, she ended her talk show and exited public life altogether. In her standup special "Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval" released in September on Netflix, DeGeneres again addressed the scandal, telling the audience that "I got kicked out of show business because I'm mean. Yeah, you can't be mean and be in show business." She later describes this as the "second time I've been kicked out of show business," referring to backlash she faced after coming out as gay in the 1990s. "Eventually, they're going to kick me out a third time for being old," she added. "Mean, old and gay. The triple crown." In "For Your Approval," DeGeneres reveals she went to therapy to "deal with all the hatred" amid the scandal. "It was not a common situation for a therapist to deal with," she jokingly tells the crowd. "At one point, my therapist said, 'Ellen, where do you get this idea that everyone hates you?' I said, 'Well, New York Times, Washington Post, Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly' — I think Elmo may have said something recently on an episode of 'Sesame Street.'" Contributing: Brendan Morrow

Ellen DeGeneres settles into UK life with James Corden's support after leaving US
Ellen DeGeneres has officially left the United States and is adjusting to life in the United Kingdom with the help of fellow former talk show host James Corden. The 66-year-old comedian and her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, have relocated to the Cotswolds, a celebrity-favored rural region in South West England. While some reports suggest the move was politically motivated following Donald Trump's election victory, sources indicate DeGeneres had already been considering leaving Hollywood due to her tarnished reputation after accusations of fostering a toxic workplace environment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Corden, 46, who returned to the UK in 2024 after ending his CBS talk show, has been guiding DeGeneres and de Rossi through the transition. The trio was recently spotted celebrating de Rossi's 52nd birthday at Chiltern Firehouse in London. DeGeneres' departure from Hollywood follows her canceled talk show, which aired its final episode on May 26, 2022. Despite attempting a comeback with her Netflix comedy special, For Your Approval in 2024, her career has largely remained on pause. Insiders claim the couple sees this move as a permanent retirement, with no plans to return to Los Angeles or take on new projects. While DeGeneres may be stepping away from the spotlight, she still has Corden's support as she navigates life across the pond.
