Huge Matches Signed For AEW Summer Blockbuster

AEW Summer Blockbuster is going to be a big one, with two matches already confirmed for the event. During Wednesday's episode of AEW's Fyter Fest, Will Ospreay took to the ring alongside Tony Schiavone. He said he regrets trying to pair up Adam Page and Swerve Strickland, and has since adjusted his focus. In a surprising moment, Ospreay then challenged Strickland to a singles match at the upcoming TV special. The match was later confirmed by the show. Ospreay and Strickland met each other in the ring at last year's Forbidden Door pay-per-view in an instant classic. In that match, Strickland walked out the winner, something Ospreay hopes to change this time around. Advertisement Elsewhere in the show, it was also confirmed that The Hurt Syndicate would take on Speedball Bailey, Komander, and Kevin Knight in a trios match during the show. AEW Summer Blockbuster is set to take place on June 11, 2025, and will be held at the Theater of the Clouds at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. Tony Khan calls out WWE's scheduling tactics - "This will go a lot differently than JCP"

Image via AEW All Elite Wrestling (AEW) President Tony Khan didn't hold back while addressing the growing rivalry between AEW and WWE during the post-Double or Nothing 2025 media scrum. With both promotions running events on the same weekend, Khan was asked about WWE's recent trend of counter-programming AEW pay-per-views. His response was both historical and defiant. 'It's pretty consistent,' Khan said. 'I'd say it's the most consistent event head-to-head scheduling since Jim Crockett Promotions. Saw a lot of scheduling that went that way. And I can tell you this will go a lot differently than that did.' The comparison to Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) is a significant one. Back in the 1980s, JCP often clashed with WWE programming, with the rivalry culminating in the WWF running Survivor Series opposite JCP's Starrcade in 1987. The financial strain from such scheduling eventually led JCP to sell to Turner Broadcasting in 1988. AEW Double Or Nothing Post Show Media Scrum | Glendale, AZ 5/25/25 WWE counters AEW with strategic scheduling Khan's remarks come at a time when WWE appears to be intensifying its counter-programming strategy. On the same weekend as AEW's Double or Nothing, WWE held both NXT Battleground and Saturday Night's Main Event. Even more notably, WWE has lined up their second all-women's premium live event, Evolution, for the day after AEW's biggest show of the year - All In: Texas - set for July 12 at Globe Life Field in Arlington. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! Despite WWE's attempts to dominate the schedule, Khan remains optimistic and assertive. His tone during the media scrum was confident, suggesting that AEW has learned from history and is better equipped to handle such competition. While Khan didn't reveal specific strategies to combat WWE's moves, his message was clear: AEW isn't intimidated, and it's prepared to maintain its momentum in the face of growing pressure. With both companies now regularly overlapping major events, the professional wrestling landscape is heating up like never before in the modern era. For fans, it's a flashback to the legendary Monday Night Wars of the late 1990s - only this time, the battle spans not just Monday nights but weekends and international tours as well. With AEW's All In: Texas and Forbidden Door on the horizon, and WWE ramping up its own counter-efforts, wrestling fans could be witnessing the birth of a new golden age, where competition drives creativity and both companies are pushed to deliver their very best. What's clear is this: the rivalry between WWE and AEW is no longer theoretical. It's unfolding live, and the industry may be better for it. The promotion, owned by Shahid and Tony Khan, has made Toronto a regular stop on its treks into Canada in recent years. In 2023, Scotiabank Arena hosted Forbidden Door, one of the promotion's most successful events in its brief history. 'I can't wait for AEW to make our return,' Tony Khan told the Sun in an exclusive interview ahead of the announcement. 'That's going to be so exciting. It's the first-ever international AEW All Out pay-per-view. It's been one of the biggest pay-per-views in AEW traditionally. I'm so thrilled that we're doing it.' 'It was a great, great event. I really put that on my Mount Rushmore of the best shows we've ever done. It's going to be a high standard that we've set for ourselves in Toronto.' Khan recalled travelling to Toronto to watch wrestling while he was in college. 'Toronto is one of the greatest wrestling cities on the planet,' he said. Wrestling daredevil, 32, feels like 'death is constantly on my doorstep'

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page AEW wrestler Will Ospreay has admitted age has made him more scared of his own death defying stunts. The 32-year-old Essex-born star, who is the poster boy for WWE rival All Elite Wrestling's Forbidden Door event at The O2 arena in London this summer, made waves earlier this year with a thrill seeking dive from the top of a steel cage. Asked if the fear ever creeps in, he exclusively told Metro: 'A lot of times, especially now that I'm older. I'm 32 … I'm an old boy now, I'm not rubber anymore. It's creeping up on me that death is on my doorstep constantly.' Decorated champion Will, who admitted he got into a lot of trouble from his partner and fellow wrestler Alex Windsor for the cage stunt, is still determined to 'push' himself to his limits. 'I do think about [death]. And main thing that I always say to myself is, like, I want to make sure that I'm safe. I want to make sure I can get on that plane at home,' he said. 'But I've made a deal with the devil – one of these days it might not happen. Until that day comes, I do need to push myself and to find out where that limit is. Will Ospreay is known for his thrill seeking style in the ring (Picture: AEW/Lee South) He was 'freaking out' before his dive from the cage at AEW Revolution (Picture: AEW/Lee South) 'I haven't found it yet, and I've jumped off of a cage, so I can only imagine how far it goes. But, you know, death is a funny thing. And when I do die, the only thing that I can say, looking back on this, I had a good laugh.' In the moment with that terrifying cage dive, Will can still recall looking don't at 'a bunch of real famous people' on the front row, with fans' phones all pointing up at him, and one man in particular silently begging him not to die. 'It was crazy being up there, because I'm wearing white gear. So instantly I'm thinking, don't s*** yourself,' he laughed. 'I was freaking out there. But after it was done, there was like, this surge of adrenaline of just like, 'I am f****** indestructible, mate.'' Ospreay is known as the Aerial Assassin (Picture: AEW/Lee South) The Essex-born star has already conquered Wembley Stadium (Picture: AEW/Lee South) Fans might be wondering what Ospreay will do next, as he looks ahead to AEW's first show at London's O2 for Forbidden Door, following two big All In events at Wembley Stadium in 2023 and 2024. 'I remember I was at a WWE SmackDown taping years ago [at The O2], and we was up in section 417, the nosebleed seats,' he recalled. AEW in the UK in 2025 What? AEW Dynamite & Collision, and AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door When and where? August 20 (Dynamite/Collision) at Glasgow's OVO Hydro, August 24 (Forbidden Door) at London's O2 arena Tickets: Tickets are available here for both shows 'If you would have told me that I'd have been the face of a wrestling show that's happening at The O2 but it's not WWE? It's madness.' Will can still remember some of the matches, with Hall of Famer The Undertaker taking on Big Show ('the finish was dogs**t'), Randy Orton facing Triple H in a Steel Cage ('it was sick'), and now-AEW star Matt Sydal against British wrestler Paul Burchill. He'll take centre stage at The O2 this summer (Picture: AEW) Ospreay grew up watching wrestling at the iconic venue (Picture: AEW/Ricky Havlik) Years later, Will is being talked about as one of the absolute best wrestlers in the world, and he insisted above all else, it comes down to 'heart'. 'When you're in a match or you've got a microphone in your hand, you can tell if someone's going through the motions,' he explained. He pointed to the example of the late 'Mad' Kurt Chapman, who died in December 2023 aged 26, and the connection he had with fans across the UK. He added: 'Kurt didn't have an ounce of muscle. If I'd have said, 'Kurtis, where's your deltoids?' he would say, 'Is that a video game character from Minecraft?' 'But he had a connection with the audience, and people wanted to see him succeed. Everyone misses that little t*at.' Ospreay had some kind words for his late friend Kurtis Chapman (Picture: Revolution Pro) He admitted not everyone can have a connection with the fans (Picture: AEW/Lee South) Wrestling truly is a space for everyone, and Will is glad that AEW and New Japan's Forbidden Door events can make diversity a normality in the business. 'I feel like now with we're starting to get into a place where we're understanding that so many of us are different shapes, different sizes, different colors, different ethnicities,' he smiled. 'I love wrestling because it celebrates all of that. I say this quite a lot about the Forbidden Door pay-per-view – it's not even a 'forbidden door' anymore, because anyone could have walked through. 'For me, Forbidden Door is celebrating the culture of professional wrestling.' AEW returns to the UK for Dynamite & Collision at Glasgow's OVO Hydro (August 24) and Forbidden Door (Aug 24). Tickets go on general sale on Friday, May 2 at 10am. Got a story?
