Man allegedly kicks his way to a felony charge
Jun. 5—After getting drunk at a downtown Columbia Falls bar late last month, a 35-year-old man allegedly wandered over to a city building and kicked several vehicles in the parking lot. Morgan Alan Pruett faces one felony count of criminal mischief in Flathead County District Court in connection with the May 29 incident. Held in the county jail with bail set at $15,000, Pruett is scheduled to appear before Judge Heidi Ulbricht on June 19 for his arraignment. Columbia Falls Police officers located Pruett after receiving a report about 9:40 p.m. of a man in blue jeans and a black tank top wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy hat damaging vehicles in a parking lot near Second Avenue West and Seventh Street West. Pruett at first denied kicking anything, but later amended his story to say that he "did not kick anything that he did not own," court documents said. But a review of surveillance footage allegedly showed Pruett kicking the passenger door of a white Ford Flex parked in the lot. Then Pruett headed over to a parked Columbia Falls patrol vehicle and kicked the driver's side door, court documents alleged. The strike to the Ford Flex left a roughly 18-inch wide dent with an estimated cost of more than $1,500 to fix, court documents said. The patrol vehicle appeared unscathed. After noticing signs of impairment while talking with Pruett, officers sought a preliminary breath test, which returned at 0.202, according to court documents. Pruett faces up to 10 years in Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine if convicted of felony criminal mischief. News Editor Derrick Perkins can be reached at 758-4430 or dperkins@

Metro driver describes tree that fell on car within inches of striking him
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. –The National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes on Tuesday, June 3, including an EF-1 in Independence with winds up to 100 miles per hour. The path of that tornado started near Truman Road and MO-291 in Independence and continued on for more than 3 miles. There were no injuries, but one man was lucky to have escaped unharmed. Two tornadoes touched down Tuesday at Truman Sports Complex and in Independence: NWS Paul Chastain estimates he was around six to eight inches away from a very different story. For Chastain lately, it's certainly been pouring. His wife is in the hospital, he's living in a hotel after pipes burst in a neighbor's apartment, sending water gushing into his apartment. Then Tuesday afternoon, life came crashing down on top of him. He'd driven to his son's home on Ellison Way in Independence to pick up a package. 'So I got my package and I was backing down and one of those weather alerts came over my phone, so I stopped to listen to it,' Chastain said. It warned a tornado was possibly heading his way. Little did he know it had just formed about a block over. 'So I was sitting there and all of the sudden I hear crunch and I thought something had fallen around me until I heard my glass blow out of my side rear windows and I thought, 'Oh heck,'' Chastain said. A large section of the tree, at least a foot in diameter, fell from high above directly onto the back of his Ford Flex. Chastain had to crawl out the passenger door. The National Weather Service preliminary damage survey says it was an EF-1 tornado up to 50 yards wide that continued on for 3.75 miles to Independence Station, where it blew the carport off one mobile home. No one was hurt there despite pieces of the shrapnel sent through a neighbor's home. Pedestrian waiting for bus in critical condition after being hit by car Back where the tornado first touched down, Chastain can only think about how close he came to the tree crushing the part of the car where he was sitting. 'If I had been 6-8 inches closer, I would have been injured or killed. So God protected me yesterday, for some reason I have no idea what it is,' he said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Lake County crash injures 3 after SUV strikes bus stop arm, several vehicles
BEACH PARK, Ill. — A crash in Beach Park sent three people to the hospital after an SUV struck a school bus arm before colliding with several vehicles on Tuesday morning. Lake County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of Sheridan Road and Michigan Boulevard on reports of a traffic crash with injuries at 8 a.m. A preliminary investigation shows a GMC Acadia, driven by a 74-year-old man, was traveling northbound on Sheridan Road, and for an unknown reason, struck the stop arm of a loading school bus. The GMC continued northbound and sideswiped a Ford Focus, driven by a 49-year-old man, causing the Ford Focus to crash into a utility pole, police say. According to police, the GMC then struck a Chevrolet Colorado, driven by a 39-year-old man, and a Ford Flex, driven by a 28-year-old woman. The children who were boarding the bus were not injured nor was the driver of the Ford Flex, police say. The driver of the GMC was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, and the drivers of the Ford Focus and Chevrolet Colorado were transported with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police believe the driver of the GMC might have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash. The Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is still investigating. Tacoma, WA police seek assistance in identifying car prowl suspects
The Brief Tacoma police are asking for help identifying two car prowling suspects who were caught on surveillance video using a woman's stolen credit card. The suspects were driving a white Ford Flex and used the victim's card at multiple businesses before she canceled it. TACOMA, Wash. - Tacoma police are asking for the public's help in identifying two suspects captured on surveillance video using a woman's stolen credit card at multiple stores while the victim was at work. The suspects were driving a white Ford Flex, which has been linked to the thefts. Surveillance footage from inside an REI store shows a masked male suspect at the checkout counter, where he used the stolen credit card to make a purchase before quickly leaving the store. The video also captures him looking into another shopper's vehicle as he exited. Inside the white Ford Flex was a woman who also used the stolen credit card at a smoke shop, where she purchased a "Monsters Inc." bong and other paraphernalia. The stolen credit card was taken from a Louis Vuitton wallet that had accidentally fallen into a book bag in the back seat of the victim's car. What they're saying Alyssa, the victim, described her reaction when she discovered her shattered car window. "Pretty immediately I started crying, which I think is a very reasonable response. I was just in shock," she said. "I had no idea that my vehicle had been broken into." Before Alyssa could cancel her credit card, the suspects made additional purchases at Walgreens and Home Depot, spending several thousand dollars in total. The same white Ford Flex with a handwritten temporary tag in the back window was spotted by another car prowl victim in Tacoma when they saw a man breaking into their car. The suspect was dressed in black, and again wearing a mask. "It's obvious that they are trying to be out of the public eye," Alyssa stated. "But I want them to be in the public eye. They've made me uncomfortable, and likely made other people uncomfortable. I want them to be held accountable for their actions." Tacoma police are urging anyone who recognizes the suspects or has information about their whereabouts to contact them. If you spot the white Ford Flex, please call 911. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Tacoma-Pierce County through the P3 Tips App or at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
