Image: Kindel Media / Pexels A dramatic multi-disciplinary police operation in the Nkangala District has led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of stolen property following a house robbery at a farm near the Kusile Power Station in Delmas. The incident took place last week, when five armed men allegedly stormed the property and made off with vehicles, livestock, and household goods. Among the stolen items were a silver Ford Ranger Club Cab, 11 sheep, 50 egg-laying chickens, a silver BMW, a generator, a fridge, jumper cables, and several cellphones. The vehicles were spotted along the R42 between Bronkhorstspruit and Delmas, sparking a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, the suspects abandoned the BMW, while a Mazda Etude attempted to block officers but later crashed. The chase continued into eTwatwa, Daveyton, where the suspects eventually abandoned the Ford Ranger and fled on foot. A follow-up investigation led officers to Bronkhorstspruit, where more stolen property was recovered, including a generator, fridge, jumper cables, and a blank firearm with ammunition. The suspect has been charged with house robbery and contravention of the Immigration Act. He is expected to appear before the Delmas Magistrate's Court on Monday, with police indicating that more charges may follow as investigations continue. Mpumalanga Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, praised the coordinated efforts of all police units involved, as well as the support of the tracking company. Police catches alleged armed robber after high speed chase
Police have arrested a Mozambican national following a farm robbery last week near the Kusile Power Station. The arrest came after a high-speed chase that led to the recovery of stolen vehicles and other property. The robbery occurred on August 14, when five armed men allegedly forced their way into the farmhouse. A Ford Ranger Club Cab, a BMW, a generator, a fridge, jumper cables, cell phones, as well as sheep and chickens were stolen. According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the stolen vehicles were located with the help of a tracking company on the R42 between Bronkhorstspruit and Delmas. The police also spotted a silver Mazda believed to have been used by the robbers. A high-speed chase ensued, during which the suspects abandoned the BMW. 'While some officers secured the scene, others continued to pursue the Ford Ranger. The chase led them to eTwatwa, Daveyton, where the men abandoned the Ford Ranger and fled on foot,' Ndubane said. During the pursuit, a Mazda Etude allegedly tried to block the police from overtaking and subsequently crashed. 'The driver, a 35-year-old Mozambican national, was arrested at the scene,' Ndubane said. Following his arrest, police conducted a preliminary investigation that led them to Bronkhorstspruit, where more of the stolen property was recovered. The suspect has been charged with house robbery and contravention of the Immigration Act. He is expected to appear in the Delmas Magistrate's Court on August 18.
