Liberty-Eylau heading back to the state championship for third year in a row
FORNEY, TX (KTAL/KMSS) – After sweeping Iowa Park in the semi-state series, the Liberty-Eylau Leopards are heading back to the state championship for the third consecutive year, with the chance to win the title for a second time in a row. The Leopards won game one against Iowa Park in dramatic fashion on Friday night, going into the seventh inning down 2-1, but came back to win 7-2. Saturday's game was more straight to the point. Collin Evans got things going with a two RBI single giving the Leopards an early lead in the first. Then in the third, RBIs from Gabe Jarvis and Cade McCleod put Liberty-Eylau up 4-0 to win the game. 'You work real hard to get to this moment, so this is a fun one,' head coach Zach Fowler said. 'There's one more dog pile we wanna jump on and that's next Thursday. So, after we celebrate this evening, go eat good, we're gonna turn our attention to Corpus Christi, London, an unfamiliar opponent and we're gonna start prepping for them and hopefully we'll give everything we got on Thursday night and Dell Diamond.' Although the Leopards are no stranger to the title game, the feeling never gets old. 'It's 3rd time in a row but you never want to take it for granted. I mean it's not even normal because every year is a different year and this year from the start of the year to now we've worked our butt off. And now it's just one more,' senior Triston Haugh said. 'We're doing it for not only the coaches and the team, but the community and they backed us up all year so I mean that's all we can ask for.' Even for the juniors on the team who nothing but state championships, it is still a special moment. 'I don't really expect it,' junior Maddax Moore said. 'We just put in all this work and it happens and you look up and you're at the finish line.' Liberty-Eylau will play in the state title game at Dell Diamond in Round Rock on Thursday, June 5th against Corpus Christi, London. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Wisconsin football makes loaded list of finalists for class of 2026 safety
Wisconsin football makes loaded list of finalists for class of 2026 safety This past Thursday, class of 2026 safety Tony Forney cut his recruitment down to five schools: Auburn, Missouri, Pitt, Georgia, and Wisconsin. The standout defensive back currently ranks as the 719th player in the country, 63rd safety in the nation, and as the 78th player from the state of Georgia. Forney would join cornerback Carsen Eloms as the only defensive back commit in Wisconsin's 2026 recruiting class. He would also be the Badgers' eighth commit in the cycle, barring any upcoming commitments after this weekend's official visits. Forney's offer list is quite impressive, with interest from top programs including Georgia, Auburn, Missouri, and even Michigan, which failed to make his top five. Head coach Luke Fickell and his staff would love to land a high upside prospect like Forney, who is likely to jump up in the national recruiting rankings as he enters his senior year of high school. Chinese battery maker Hithium expands global footprint amid US-China rift, rising demand
Xiamen Hithium Energy Storage Technology, the world's third-largest energy storage system (ESS) battery manufacturer, is ramping up production overseas in response to heightened US-China tensions and rising tariffs impacting Chinese exports. Hithium plans to start production at its Texas factory in the second half of this year and hire at least 200 staff locally, said Sun Minghuang, the director of strategic marketing, in an exclusive interview. 'We are determined to go global, and localisation is a very important strategy in our global ambitions,' he said. Hithium filed its Hong Kong listing application in March to raise funds for its growth plans. The company's US$100 million facility in Forney, Texas, covering nearly 500,000 sq ft, will have an annual production capacity of about 10 gigawatt-hours (GWh). Accounting for at least 10 per cent of Hithium's total production capacity, the company was targeting to more than double its capacity to 100GWh by 2026 from 2024 levels, according to its preliminary prospectus. Xiamen Hithium engineers inspect one of the company's facilities. Photo: Handout Hithium aims to generate half of its annual revenue overseas by 2028, from nearly 30 per cent last year, taking advantage of growing demand for energy storage due to increasing renewable energy production, according to Sun. Earlier this month, the company signed a preliminary agreement with Spanish venture capital firm GCRPV to set up an ESS plant in Europe. In October, it formed a joint venture with a Saudi Arabian firm to set up a facility in the Middle Eastern country.

Grapefruit-sized hail, thunderstorms put a damper on Texas Memorial Day
OKLAHOMA CITY – Memorial Day weekend plans from the Plains to the Southeast were put in jeopardy on Sunday as a slow-moving storm system pummeled communities with massive hail, damaging wind gusts and even some reports of tornadoes. Flooding was also an issue, as rounds of torrential rain overwhelmed storm drains, rivers and streams. Hail larger than grapefruits fell in Texas on Sunday evening. Colt Forney with Atmospheric Chaos said the 5.5-inch and 6-inch giant hailstones fell in Afton. Pictures show him comparing one of the hailstones to a baseball and another to a baseball hat. There were numerous reports of large hail in the Afton area, ranging from 4 to 6 inches. There was also a report of 3-inch hail in Goldsby, Oklahoma. Tens of millions of people from Texas and Oklahoma through the Mississippi Valley and Southeast were at risk of severe thunderstorms on Sunday, and some of those areas were hit hard. A video recorded in Arkansas shows the moment a bolt of lightning struck a radio tower in Fayetteville on Sunday. Pictures show him comparing one of the hailstones to a baseball and another to a baseball hat. X/@ColtForney Winds were also whipping during the storms, with an 81-mph wind gust reported in Amherst, Texas. That's as strong as a Category 1 hurricane. Some communities in Texas also reported tornadoes. According to NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC), possible tornadoes were reported in Afton, Amherst, Stamford and Floyd. An incredible video captured by a storm chaser and his son showed images of what appeared to be two tornadoes spinning across the landscape in the Stamford area on Sunday. The area was under a Tornado Warning at the time the video was taken. There were numerous reports of large hail in the Afton area, ranging from 4 to 6 inches. X/@ColtForney The heavy rain also led to reports of water rescues and flooding in Missouri. A drone video recorded in Ozark, Missouri, shows neighborhoods surrounded by water after flooding due to the relentless precipitation. Water can also be seen getting dangerously close to the bottom of a bridge while the flooding was ongoing. Sunday's threat came after parts of the same regions were slammed with severe thunderstorms and flooding on Saturday, with damage to buildings reported in Oklahoma, water rescues in Missouri and storms tearing across communities in Florida.

Running Back Javian Osborne Can't Wait to Bring a National Championship Back to Notre Dame
Notre Dame made a major statement on the recruiting trail when it landed Javian Osborne, one of the nation's most electric offensive players. The standout from Forney (Texas) High School picked Notre Dame over Michigan and an impressive live of suitors. Osborne, who checks in at 5-10 and 190 pounds, is widely considered one of the top running backs in the 2026 class, earning a 5.0-star upside grade on the Irish Breakdown board. Advertisement This is the first major recruiting win for new running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider, and it's a big one. Seider, who arrived with a strong reputation, wasted no time making a splash by going into Texas and pulling one of the state's best players. It's also a statement by Marcus Freeman and the rest of the Irish staff that they aren't just going to recruit nationally—they're going to win nationally. That message wasn't lost on Osborne, who made his expectations crystal clear, as was the primary reason he picked Notre Dame. 'Can't wait to bring this [national championship] back to South Bend!' Osborne told Irish Breakdown before getting into the reason he picked the Irish. 'Coach Freeman. He is the realest I've ever been around, and he knows how to lead young men and give them hope in their lives—something to live for.' Osborne has built great relationships with a lot of the Notre Dame staff, but its clear Seider made a big impact on this recruitment. Advertisement "Great! Love him," Osborne stated. "One of the best, if not the best running backs coach in college football right now. Outstanding.' Notre Dame didn't just win a recruiting battle—they brought in a leader and a culture fit. Osborne is not only an elite athlete, but also the kind of young man who will thrive at Notre Dame. His commitment to making an impact off the field is just as strong as his goals between the lines. 'Something I want the Irish fans to know about me is that I will give my all for Notre Dame Today,' he said. 'What does that mean? It means that on and off the field you're getting the full package—as a ball player and as a Notre Dame man. I will have a positive impact in the community.' As for his upcoming senior season? Osborne has big plans. Advertisement 'My goal for this upcoming season is to rush for over 2,500 yards and 50-plus total touchdowns—at minimum 45 rushing. I think it's a statement year for me! I gotta go out there and prove that I am who I am! I am one of none!' That confidence, that edge—it's exactly the kind of energy Notre Dame wants in its locker room. It's clear that Notre Dame is building a roster that will be able to compete for championships year after year. Notre Dame just added a difference maker—and he already has his eyes on a national title. Osborne brings a unique blend of speed, vision and physicality to the backfield. When you turn on the tape the traits pop: he sees the field with patience and burst, hits the hole with authority, and uses a quick jump cut to make defenders miss in tight spaces. But he's not just slippery—he's tough. Osborne finishes runs, breaks tackles, and has the speed to break off chunk plays and take it the distance. He also flashes reliable hands as a receiver, making him a true every-down threat.
