Winnipeg extends spray pad season

A spray pad in the City of Winnipeg is pictured in a file photo. Winnipeggers will have some extra time this summer to enjoy the city's aquatic offerings. On Tuesday, the City of Winnipeg announced it's extending its spray pad season by a week. This means most city-operated spray pads will remain open until the end of the day on Sept. 7, apart from Boyd Park and Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre, which will be accessible until Sept. 1. ADVERTISEMENT Most of the city's wading pools will stay open until Aug. 22; however, Central Park, Dakota Park, McKittrick Park and St. John's Park will remain open until the end of the day on Sept. 1. As for outdoor pools, Fort Garry Lions, Provencher and Windsor Park will be open until the end of the day on Aug. 29, while Freight House, Kildonan Park, St. Vital, Transcona Aquatic Park and Westdale will remain open until Sept. 1. More information can be found online.

Spray pads to start opening in Winnipeg this weekend

Most spray pads in Winnipeg will open tomorrow ahead of what's set to be a warm and sunny week in the city. All but one of the city's 29 spray pads will open for the season on Saturday, according to the city's website. The openings come as temperatures are set to rise from 21 C on Saturday to up to 30 C on Thursday, according to Environment Canada's latest forecast. Most spray pads are open from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. every day until Sept. 1, according to a news release issued Friday. Heated outdoor pools are set to begin opening on June 20, with the exception of Fort Garry Lions, which is set to open a week later along with unheated pools, the release says. They will operate all week, weather permitting. Wading pools will open on a staggered basis beginning July 1, the release says. The Boyd Park spray pad will also open on July 1.
