FOSA calls on Ramaphosa to fast-track the process of signing NHI into law
JOHANNESBURG - Non-profit organisation Forum for South Africa (FOSA) is calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to fast-track the process of signing the National Health Insurance (NHI) into law. This was after a Johannesburg Metro police officer was denied emergency care due to the city's outstanding medical bill. The organisation said the hospital's actions were inhumane. FOSA leader, Tebogo Mashilompane, said the recent incident was an indication that the NHI Bill would ensure that no one was denied medical care. "The working class and the poor cannot suffer any longer at the hands of those who are chasing profit at the expense of lives. Access to health facilities is a fundamental human right, so NHI will make that possible."

Fosa urges Ramaphosa to fast-track NHI implementation
The Forum for South Africa (Fosa) has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to urgently implement the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill. The organisation made this call after a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer was reportedly denied emergency treatment due to unpaid hospital bills by the City of Johannesburg. TimesLIVE reported the officer was shot while on duty but was turned away at Netcare Milpark Hospital because the city owes the hospital R35m. Tebogo Mashilompane, national leader of Fosa, urged the president to fast-track the implementation of NHI so access to health facilities was not restricted. Fosa said it was clear the time for NHI was now. Mashilompane said the working class and the poor could not continue to suffer under a healthcare system that prioritised money over human life. 'Access to health facilities is a fundamental human right, so NHI will make that possible.'

Kubayi accused of playing cheap politics for criticising Shivambu over Bushiri visit
JOHANNESBURG - Civil organisation, the Forum for South Africa (FOSA), has accused Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi of playing cheap politics after she weighed in on Floyd Shivambu's visit to Malawi this past weekend. Shivambu, the MK Party secretary-general, was seen on social media cosying up to fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri at what's believed to be his church during Good Friday. The images circulating online sparked an outcry, with Kubayi labelling Shivambu's visit as spitting in the face of South Africa's legal system. In a statement, Kubayi also described it as undermining the country's judicial credibility. National leader of Forum for South Africa, Tebogo Mashilompane, said: "While Forum for South Africa questions the ethical leadership of MKP Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu, the forum feels that the minister has gone beyond her duties by attacking an individual who in his personal capacity decided to show support to the fugitive."He said that Kubayi's comments were inconsistent. "There are questionable visitation by the leaders of the ANC [African National Congress] to controversial churches, but because it is the matter of personal choice, we do not see how we or one fits in such matters, especially if they have nothing to do with the direct tarnishing of our country's image."

Bushiri's Easter service: Justice Minister slammed for misuse of office to 'unfairly' attack Shivambu
JOHANNESBURG - The Forum for South Africa (FOSA) has slammed Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi for what it calls the misuse of her office to unfairly attack MK Party Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu. This comes after Kubayi criticised Shivambu for visiting fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri's Enlightened Christian Gathering Church in Malawi, calling the move a blatant disregard for South Africa's legal system. The Minister's comments followed viral videos of Shivambu being acknowledged during the church's Easter service. READ: Justice Dept lashes MK's Shivambu for appearing at Bushiri's Easter service FOSA says the minister should not use her position to question personal choices and should instead focus on Bushiri's extradition. The organisation's leader, Tebogo Mashilompane, 'Minister Kubayi must stop interfering in people's personal lives by using the state umbrella, but she must strive to bring Bushiri back in the country. If she wants to attack Floyd, she may do so on her personal capacity as a private citizen, not dragging the entire ministry into issues that have nothing to do with her ministry.'
