Nant Celyn Primary School in Cwmbran wins four awards
Nant Celyn Primary School in Cwmbran was given the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Foundation of Community Engagement Awards, as well as the Heart of the Community Award.
This recognises the school's dedication to fostering meaningful partnerships, encouraging pupil involvement, and making a lasting impact within the local community.
Headteacher Keri Smith said: "To receive these four awards in one day is truly incredible.
"It's a reflection of the hard work, compassion, and collaboration between Hannah and Tina, our staff, pupils, families, and community partners.
"We are proud to be recognised as the Heart of the Community – because that's exactly what we strive to be."
The awards celebrate schools that go above and beyond in embedding community values into every aspect of school life.
From intergenerational projects to local outreach initiatives, Nant Celyn continues to lead the way in enriching both education and local life.
Working with local businesses to launch a thriving parent, baby, and toddler group, receiving support from local craft clubs, the school is continually strengthening its ties with the wider community.
Nant Celyn is also proud to host the Torfaen Dance Festival annually—an event that brings together more than 18 schools from across the borough, giving more than 500 children the chance to perform on stage to sell-out audiences.
These initiatives are just a few examples of how the school is creating lasting opportunities and joyful experiences for children and families throughout the area.
Hannah Jones, community lead, and Tina Goodland, family liaison officer, met with Sue Davies, the director of the Foundation of the Community Engagement Award, to showcase the work they have done.
They were 'absolutely delighted' when Sue awarded them the Heart of the Community Award.
