Peacemaker season 2 trailer seems to embrace the Multiverse as John Cena's antihero meets his doppelganger
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. A new trailer for Peacemaker season 2 has arrived - and it's already packing in cameos, surprises, and major teases about what's to come as the fan favorite streaming series returns. In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, we see John Cena suit up once again as Peacemaker for an interview with the Justice League, specifically with Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, and Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Guy Gardner. But things don't go exactly as planned. Have a look: Along with the appearance of the Justice League, we learn that the season will focus on Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. hunting down Peacemaker for killing his son back in The Suicide Squad. We get some flashes of heavy action, some heartfelt moments with the cast, and a hilarious introduction to some new characters. But that's not all - the trailer ends with Peacemaker passing through what appears to be a doorway to another reality to confront another version of himself from the Multiverse. Could this be the mechanism that brings together the continuity of the recently relaunched DC Studios with the previous version? Or is this something else entirely, a misdirection? The returning cast includes Freddie Stroma's Adrian Chase, Steve Agee as John Economos, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Danielle Brooks' Leota Adebayo. We also have Tim Meadows, Sol Rodriguez, David Denman, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. - who, if you might recall, has some unfinished business with Peacemaker. Season 1 hit HBO and Max in 2022, prior to James Gunn and Peter Safran's takeover of DC. The overhaul and new slate of projects had some fans worried that Peacemaker wouldn't make the cut, but the hero fits right in DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Peacemaker season 2 is due to be released on HBO and Max in the US and Sky in the UK sometime in 2025. James Gunn Clears Up Rick Flag Sr.'s Role in SUPERMAN, and It's Not What Fans Thought — GeekTyrant
Ever since the Superman trailer dropped, DC fans have been trying to figure out exactly what Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. is doing in the new DCU, and specifically, what title he holds. Is he the Secretary of Defense? Is he running ARGUS? Or both? The confusion hit some fans during a moment in the trailer, Lois Lane says the Secretary of Defense will be keeping a close eye on Superman, and the next shot shows Grillo's Flag Sr. That led many to assume he was playing the Defense Secretary in the DCU. But then Peacemaker Season 2's teaser landed, and it revealed that Flag Sr. is now running ARGUS. So… which is it? Thankfully, James Gunn just stepped in to settle the debate. A fan asked Gunn on Threads: 'Is Rick Flag senior the secretary of defense or is that just the way the trailer is edited I thought he was running ARGUS now?' Gunn responded plainly: 'He's the head of ARGUS. But he works beside the Secretary of Defense General Mori.' So, Flag Sr. is in charge of ARGUS (Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans), but works closely with top-level government officials like General Mori. Frank Grillo has already made his animated debut in the role with Creature Commandos, and this character is clearly being set up as a major connective thread in Gunn's new DCU. Back in November 2024, Grillo offered his own perspective on Flag Sr.'s place in the DCU, drawing comparisons to another familiar face from a different cinematic universe: 'I get a little bit of a Sam Jackson vibe. It's that kind of thing where he can swing through for a little bit, like in Superman, and have a critical, pivotal role, and then a bigger role, certainly, in Peacemaker, a very crucial role, and then is the leader of the team on Creature Commandos.' He added: 'So, yeah, I don't know what the future holds, but I think Rick Flag is kind of the head of ARGUS, like the MCU with Jackson. I mean, you never know. It's kind of endless.' Flag Sr. is clearly here to stay, and it sounds like he'll be showing up exactly where Gunn and the DCU stories need to be.

John Cena and the 11th street kids return in the Peacemaker season 2 teaser trailer
John Cena, welcome to the new DC Universe. After a three-year hiatus, Peacemaker returns to Max for its long-awaited second season. The teaser trailer follows the adventures of Christopher 'Chris' Smith (Cena), better known as the vigilante superhero Peacemaker. After saving the world, the season 2 footage begins with Peacemaker attempting to join a super team with Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced). All three are unimpressed with Peacemaker, as they insult him from the other side of an interrogation room. Nonetheless, Peacemaker will fight evil and make peace by any means necessary. Though that might be more difficult with the arrival of Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), the new leader of A.R.G.U.S. Peacemaker killed Rick Flag Jr. in The Suicide Squad, so Rick Sr. has unfinished business with the crime-fighting mercenary. Besides Cena, returning cast members include Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Robert Patrick as August 'Auggie' Smith/White Dragon. Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez, and Tim Meadows headline the new additions to the Peacemaker season 2 cast. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of season 2 and directed three. Additional directors are Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Althea Jones. Gunn, Cena, and Peter Safran will executive produce. While the show started off in the DC Extended Universe, Peacemaker season 2 will live in the DCU. Gunn previously stated that the show will address the arrival of the DCEU's Justice League from the season 1 finale. The end of the teaser features a scene with two Peacemakers. One of them is holding a gun to the other's head. Many fans are speculating that this moment could be a showdown between DCEU Peacemaker and DCU Peacemaker. Peacemaker season 2 will consist of eight episodes, with the first arriving on Thursday, August 21, on Max.

Awesome First Trailer for PEACEMAKER Season 2 Unleashes Chaos, Vengeance, and Fun — GeekTyrant
John Cena is back in DC action in the first trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, and as we imagined, things are about to get even messier. Released by Max, the trailer teases a chaotic return filled with everything fans love about the series including absurd violence, inappropriate jokes, and just enough emotional trauma to keep it weirdly heartfelt. This time around, Christopher Smith isn't just dealing with his complicated moral code, he's being hunted. Frank Grillo enters the scene as Rick Flag Sr., and he's not exactly interested in letting bygones be bygones. His son, Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman), was killed by Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad , and now Dad's out for blood. It's a personal vendetta of revenge, and in true Peacemaker fashion, it's going to be explosive, bizarre, and emotional. The trailer teases some interesting story elements and even include cameos from Isabela Merced's Hawk Girl, Nathan Fillian's Guy Gardner, and Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord. James Gunn wrote every episode and is directing several of them as well. He's confirmed that the events of Peacemaker Season 1 and The Suicide Squad remain canon in his reimagined DC Universe. That continuity carries over, and the trailer leans into the fallout: 'Peacemaker will face relentless pursuit by Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) as a direct consequence of his reprehensible past actions.' While Chris dodges Flag Sr., the 11th Street Kids are back in action. Danielle Brooks returns as Leota Adebayo, now dealing with the political fallout of publicly exposing Task Force X (and her mom, Amanda Waller). Steve Agee's John Economos is back following a Creature Commandos crossover, joined once again by Jennifer Holland's Emilia Harcourt, who's recovered from her injuries. Freddie Stroma reprises his role as Vigilante, still charmingly deranged and dangerously unfiltered, and Eagly's back too. Gunn has made it clear that Season 2 will 'directly continue Peacemaker's story while transitioning him fully into the new DCU narrative.' That includes the fallout from Season 1's butterfly invasion, Chris's climactic confrontation with his white supremacist father (Robert Patrick), and the emotional minefield that comes with trying to be a better person… while also wielding a grenade. Robert Patrick will return as Auggie Smith, but this time around he will appear in flashbacks or haunting visions. Also joining the cast as Nhut Le as Judomaster, Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux, Tim Meadows as A.R.G.U.S. agent Langston Fleury, David Denman in a mysterious role, and Brey Noelle as the eccentric Batman rogue, White Rabbit. Peacemaker Season 2 premieres Thursday, August 21st on Max, just weeks afte r Superman hits theaters on July 11th. Enjoy the trailer!
