Now, Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson has added her own story, recalling how the US president phoned her out of the blue, inviting her to 'stay at one of my beautiful places' and have dinner, on the very day she finalized her divorce from actor-director Kenneth Branagh Speaking Saturday(August 9) at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, Thompson recalled taking the call while in her trailer during filming of the 1998 political drama Primary Colors.''Hello, this is Donald Trump ,'' she remembered hearing. 'I thought it was a joke and asked: 'How can I help you?''According to Thompson, Trump told her, ''I'd love you to come and stay at one of my beautiful places. Maybe we could have dinner.''Thompson said she responded politely: 'That's very sweet. Thank you so much. I'll get back to you.'At the time, Trump had recently divorced his second wife, Marla Maples , with whom he shares daughter Tiffany. Thompson's marriage to Branagh, which began in 1989, ended in 1995 after his affair with actress Helena Bonham Carter during the filming of Mary Shelley's a 2022 interview with The New Yorker, Thompson said she had been 'utterly blind' to Branagh's other relationships and described herself as 'half alive' when the marriage ended. Thompson is now married to actor Greg Wise, with whom she has two children.
