Hibs academy duo join East Kilbride on cooperation loan
Hibs academy pair goalkeeper Freddie Owens and forward Dean Cleland have joined East Kilbride on cooperation loans for the upcoming season. The 19-year-old keeper impressed last season at Civil Service Strollers in the Lowland League and makes the move to the newly promoted League Two outfit for the forthcoming campaign. Cleland, 17, also impressed last term scoring 38 times for the Edinburgh club's Under-18s side and helped them to the CAS Elite Youth League title. As a result of the new Cooperation system, the pair will be able to continue playing for Hibs while also gaining experience with their partner club. "Freddie did very well at Civil Service Strollers last season in what was a good campaign for them, and Dean really impressed in our Under-18s team," Hibs' Academy Director Gareth Evans told club media, external. "Challenging themselves in League Two, and playing for a good club like East Kilbride, is great for Freddie and Dean in terms of their development and hopefully both will now get minutes at a higher level."

Teenage keeper Freddie Owens extends Hibs contract
Teenage goalkeeper Freddie Owens has signed a new one-year contract extension with Hibs. The 19-year-old spent the 2024/25 season on loan with Civil Service Strollers following two previous emergency loan spells with the Lowland League outfit. His strong performances made a huge contribution to the Strollers' top-half finish, with the promising shot-stopper playing 31 of the Edinburgh club's 34 league matches. The youngster had previously been a part of Hibernian's UEFA Youth League squad during the 2022/23 season and impressed across various age groups to earn his first professional contract last summer. On Owens' new deal, Hibernian FC's Academy Director Gareth Evans said: 'We're really pleased to agree a contract extension with Freddie. 'We monitored his loan with Civil Service Strollers closely, and you could see him developing week on week. He performed well and made an important contribution to their season. 'We look forward to continuing our work with him and seeing him progress with us.' Like this: Like Related
