Animal Friends Release Date Delayed for Ryan Reynolds & Jason Momoa Movie
The release date for the live-action hybrid road trip adventure Animal Friends, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa, has been delayed for several months. A Legendary, Maximum Effort, and Prime Focus Studios production, it was originally slated to come out through Sony Pictures but later shifted to Warner Bros. as part of the deal the company made with Legendary. Animal Friends will now release in US theaters on May 1, 2026, nearly seven months after its previously announced premiere date, October 10, 2025. Besides Reynolds and Momoa, the cast of Animal Friends includes Aubrey Plaza, Addison Rae, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery, and Ellie Bamber. Peter Atencio directed the feature from a script by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider. This is not the first time that Animal Friends has suffered a delay in its release. Sony Pictures initially set its release date for August 15, 2025. However, Warner Bros. then acquired the distribution rights for the movie and changed it to October 10. Animal Friends was described as an 'R-rated road trip adventure' when it was announced in April 2023. Production reportedly began in June 2023 and concluded in April 2024. Notably, Maximum Effort is a production company that Reynolds co-founded. Some of the projects they have produced are Deadpool 2 (2018), Free Guy (2021), Shotgun Wedding (2022), and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Meanwhile, filmmaker and producer Namit Malhotra founded Prime Focus Media. Their upcoming projects include Ramayana, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, and The Angry Birds Movie 3. DNEG, noted for their work on Nimona (2023) and Dune: Part Two (2024), is handling the animation and visual effects on Animal Friends. Peter Atencio previously directed action comedy movies Keanu (2016) and The Machine (2023). Burrows and Mider were the creators of the GQ original animated series Gentlemen Lobsters. They were also the co-writers of the 2018 teen comedy The Package. Originally reported by Tamal Kundu on SuperHeroHype. But that hasn't stopped him from watching his team in style. Streaming the match on a laptop or even a TV was not grand enough for the Deadpool star as he worked on the set of his latest movie. With a giant green screen behind him, he could not resist broadcasting Wrexham's recent game on to the huge projector. Reynolds and his crew watched on as the Welsh side notched their 23rd win of the season against Crawley Town. He looked enamoured as the game played on behind him while surrounding by various pieces of Hollywood machinery. And Reynolds captioned the moment: 'Watching the Wrexham game at work: new level unlocked.' It's not clear what project Reynolds was working on at the time, with the actor currently developing several new movies including sequels to smash hits Free Guy and Red Notice. McElhenney added: "They are not just players on the team. They are my friends and people I admire". Wrexham director Humphrey Ker posted he was "slightly in awe" of Fletcher "on account of his extraordinary career at the very top of the game". He continued: "Now, after two glorious years in his company, I'm even more in awe of him, on account of his abilities, his leadership and friendship. "[He's a] man who's given me moments of joy that'll last a lifetime."

Madonna Teams with 'Deadpool' Director for New Biopic Series
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Pop icon Madonna is getting her own Netflix limited series. According to a new report from Deadline, the singer is partnering with "Deadpool & Wolverine" and "Free Guy" director Shawn Levy to tell the story of her life and career. The project is in the early stages of development. Read More: Original "The Office" Star Appears in Spinoff First Look The Queen of Pop has been looking to put the grand story of her life on the screen for a while now. Madonna first announced she was working on a biopic about her life in 2020, and at the time she was set to direct the feature herself. Julia Garner of "Ozark" fame was cast in the lead role, and screenwriters such as Diablo Cody ("Juno") and Cressida Wilson ("Secretary") worked on the script. ANGELA WEISS/AFP via Getty Images) Deadline says that Garner is the most likely choice to play Madonna in the Netflix series, but that the casting wouldbe subject to the "Fantastic Four: First Steps" star's availability because no deals have been made. Back in September 2020, Madonna talked to Entertainment Weekly about some of the parts of her life she wanted her fans to see brought to the screen. They included her meeting with Andy Warhol, the controversy over her 1989 music video "Like A Prayer", and the making of the 1996 musical historical drama "Evita". In 2023, Variety broke the news that Universal Studios had dropped the Madonna biopic, just as the singer was embarking on a world tour. The report went on to imply that it was Madonna's decision to go on the tour, rather than continue to develop the biopic, that prompted Universal to drop the project. Deadline notes that last November Madonna hinted in an Instagram post that she might be abandoning the idea of a biopic feature in favor of a limited TV series. It is tempting to speculate "Like A Prayer" may have indirectly had something to do with the partnership between Madonna and Levy. The song featured prominently in Shawn Levy's Marvel film "Deadpool & Wolverine" and Ryan Reynolds previously mentioned meeting personally with Madonna to secure permission to use the song in the feature. It plays during a particularly bloody scene in which the titular duo battle a small army of Deadpool variants.
