New Aid Flotilla Sets Sail for Gaza

DaysofPal- Dozens of ships loaded with humanitarian aid are preparing to sail from several ports on the Mediterranean Sea later this August, in the largest maritime attempt in over 17 years to break the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip. The fleet includes activists, artists, and public figures from more than 44 countries, among them Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg and American actress Susan Sarandon, along with thousands of humanitarian workers, doctors, and artists. Organizers emphasize that the campaign is completely independent and not affiliated with any government or political party. Its goal is to enforce the United Nations Charter, which prohibits denying food to civilians even during wartime. Hussein Dormaz, coordinator of the Turkish delegation in the fleet, said the initiative unites several international coalitions, including the 'Freedom Fleet' and the 'Steadfastness Convoy.' Dormaz stressed that 'what is happening in Gaza is unbearable, and humanity is called upon to unite efforts to break the siege.' Organizers confirmed that the fleet, the largest of its kind, will continue sailing despite Israeli pressures and attempts to smear participants as extremists or terrorists. They highlighted that the movement is 'entirely civilian and peaceful' and aims to deliver food and medicine to Gaza's residents and break the siege suffocating over two million people. Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation, with full American support, has continued its genocide in Gaza, described internationally as genocide, involving killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, despite orders from the International Court of Justice to stop operations and comply with international law. The Israeli genocide has resulted in approximately 215,000 Palestinian casualties, dead and injured, most of whom are women and children, along with more than 9,000 missing persons and hundreds of thousands displaced.
