Kylie Jenner Serves Serious '90s Nostalgia With Her ‘Deep French Manicure'
All products featured on Glamour are independently selected by Glamour editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, Condé Nast may earn an affiliate '90s were an iconic time for beauty. We're talking frosted eye shadow, brown lipstick, and, of course, the infamous skinny brow. So it's no wonder Kylie Jenner decided to pull from this nostalgic era for her latest manicure. This nail look is simple, classic, and straight from the '90s. It's a French manicure with white tips and a nude base, but rather than a regular French or even a micro Frenchie (which pal Hailey Bieber wore recently), it's a thicker, chunkier white French tip. Jenner's go-to celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt is the one responsible for this nostalgic manicure coined the 'Deep '90s French.' In an Instagram post, Ganzorigt shared that she pulled inspiration from the cover of a '90s issue of Nails Magazine, so it really is straight from that time. While square-shaped nails reigned supreme in the '90s and have stood the test of time, Jenner opted instead for medium-length almond-shaped tips to modernize the look and customize it to her liking. Here's some good news about this mani: It is so easy to recreate. The look is straightforward, making it ideal if you're a beginner DIY-ing your nails at home or if you prefer more minimalistic nail art. At the nail salon, you can expect a coat of a nude base followed by a couple coats of white on each nail tip. Your nail artist will then use a small nail brush to shape the French tip to perfection. If you're doing it at home, there are even French manicure stamp tools you can buy to simply press the shape onto your nails. It literally couldn't be easier, which is great news, because we're definitely going to need to copy this look ASAP. Saviland French Tip Nail Stamp $10.00, Amazon Essie Nail Polish in Snowy White $10.00, Amazon Jenner is a big fan of a good French mani lately. From disco polka-dot nails and studded Frenchies to a twisted French, she's leaning into the look big time. While her previous French manicures have been more intricate with added designs, her deep '90s French is a slight departure from that in its simplicity. Nail minimalists will be on board. Jenner's also been trying other retro vibes lately. She's been spotted multiple times this summer wearing the season's hottest fashion pattern: polka dots. The beauty mogul wears and curates a lot of vintage pieces, so we can't say we're surprised. After all, who doesn't love a bit of nostalgia? Soft serve nails: The viral summer manicure that's as sweet as it sounds
There's a manicure trend that's making its way not-so-stealthily across Tiktok, celebrity fingertips and salon chairs this summer, which is just as sweet, smooth and nostalgic as it sounds. Cue soft serve nails: A delectable, milky dream of a manicure that blends the best bits of a French manicure with a gel ombré and - you've guessed it - ice cream. A creamy, buttery array of subtle, sorbet shades, whipped pinks and creamy nudes that melt seamlessly into sheer, milky white at the nail tip, soft serve nails are finished with a high-gloss top coat. Think colour that is seamlessly 'churned' - if you will -with no beginning or end: strawberry and vanilla swirls, subtle raspberry ripple or even creamy apricot. This is a manicure breed that blends minimal elegance with playful charm. But why - when nail trends come and go as they do - has this one gone quite so stratospheric? Put simply, it's feminine, low-effort and utterly versatile, but still delivers the quiet elegance and understated luxury that we all want and need right now. Then of course - of course - there's the fact that it aligns with the clean girl aesthetic which continues to reign supreme and go absolutely nowhere fast. Yes, this is the kind of manicure that doesn't shout or scream, but steadily clocks up compliments everywhere from the coffee queue, to cocktails and nursery pickup. Celebrity manicurist Harriet Westmoreland (@harrietwestmoreland) has earned a global reputation for her meticulous work in recent years, and has done much to take minimal manicure trends like this one viral time and time and time again. Queen of the modern French, she has been sliding variations of the soft serve into her summer appointments and social feeds over the last months, keeping her iterations glossy, clean and short. Then of course there's our perennial manicure muse, Hailey Bieber who has been out and about in LA this summer with a soft blend of pinky nude with whisper-white tips. Word has it - just F.Y.I that her go-to picks are OPI Bubble Bath and Funny Bunny. Of course you do! Ask your nail tech for a soft ombré or milky gradient using milky, pastel shades. Or fancy some DIY? Apply two coats of your chosen varnish before adding a dot of creamy white polish onto a sponge and tapping it onto the tip of the nail, building up intensity slowly until you have the seamless gradient required. Finish with a glossy topcoat like Seche Vite instant Gel Effect Top Coat (£9.95, for that irresistible ice cream shine. My personal picks to try this trend? Essie Sugar Daddy, (£8.99, OPI Nail Polish in Funny Bunny and Bubble Bath (£15.60 each, Manucurist Natural Nail Polish in Blossom (£14, Hermes Nail Polish in Rose Coquille, (£46, Biosculpture Nail Polish in Sweet Candy Breath, Peach Whip and Strawberry French (£15.50 each, plus The GelBottle Gels in Daisy and Gloss.

Everyone's Asking For The 'Vanilla French' Manicure Right Now
There's seemingly no limit to the number of nail trends to choose from at any given moment. This spring alone, we spied angel chrome nails, obsessed over the beach manicure and were swayed by barely there nail tints. If TikTok is anything to go by, though, nothing beats the French manicure for summer. With millions of views, the hashtag #Frenchmanicure serves up countless creative takes on the wearable classic. There's the trending " faded French," where the crisp white tips blend into a nude base for an ombré effect, not to mention the " glow French", which features a jelly-like base and a contrasting opaque white tip. But if you ask manicurists, one particular spin on the iconic nail look is on the tip of everyone's tongue at the moment. Enter: the "vanilla French" manicure. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sarah (@heluviee) What is the vanilla French manicure? Editorial manicurist Ami Streets explains that the vanilla French manicure is a contemporary take on the '90s and early '00s classic we all know and love, but with a few simple updates. The base, rather than being an opaque baby pink or peach shade, is translucent, much like this look by manicurist Megan Rose. "[This] manicure enlists a sheer shade that will enhance your natural nails while camouflaging any imperfections," says Streets. "As a result, nails simply look perfectly groomed." On TikTok and Instagram, some manicurists are even using the vanilla French manicure and the"modern French" manicure interchangeably. (The word "vanilla" refers to the soft cream colour of the tip of the nail.) View this post on Instagram A post shared by Megan Rose (@ The shape is key, too. "[This] manicure substitutes the classic square shape for a softer, more subtle, rounded or almond nail shape, and the French tip is delicate and slim as opposed to wide and more defined," explains Streets. "This looks a little more understated and sophisticated, especially if painted in more muted shades of cream rather than the typical bright white tip. It gives the illusion of being your nails — but better." Take inspiration from digital creator Sarah on Instagram. Aside from the more rounded, elongated shape, the key point of difference is in the shades used. For the base, manicurists are ditching solid colours for translucent pink, nude, or even clear to enhance the natural nail, depending on personal preference. The ivory tip imitates the tip of a natural nail, which is never stark white, so the final result is a lot more believable. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Chels Lou (@chelslounails) How do you achieve a vanilla French manicure? For best results, especially if you're choosing gel, Builder in a Bottle (BIAB), or acrylic extensions, visit a qualified manicurist. "Ask your nail technician for a rounded or almond shape," says Streets. Your chosen nail professional will help you decide which will look best, depending on the length of your nails. Streets suggests a rounded or square-oval shape for short nails (look to this shape by Nicole McMillan on Instagram) and an almond shape for longer nails. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Charlotte Knight (@nailchark) Streets suggests choosing a base shade that's suitable for your skin tone, but if in doubt, opt for a clear polish. She adds that the finishing touch is a slim French tip in an off-white shade, like this look by nail artist Charlotte Knight. If you'd rather give the French tip a go yourself, there are plenty of tutorials on TikTok. Some manicure enthusiasts are pressing each nail into the soft pad of their finger coated in polish to achieve the slim tip, while others are investing in a silicone stamper, which is essentially a gel cushion (a lot less messy than the former). View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nicole McMillan (@cocodoesnails) How long does the vanilla French manicure last? A manicure like this should typically last for around two to three weeks, which is good news for the low-maintenance among us. The sheer base colour typical of the vanilla French" manicure means that as nails get longer, any evidence of growth around the cuticle area isn't particularly noticeable. Opting for gel polish or BIAB will boost the longevity of a manicure like this, but if you prefer regular polish, consider investing in a gel-effect top coat to prevent chipping and lend a glossy, professional-looking finish.
