'Chasing Liberty' Heartthrob Resurfaces at 47 for Rare Public Appearance
Fans of the 2004 romcom, Chasing Liberty, will recognize British actor, Matthew Goode, 47, for his role of Secret Service Special Agent Ben Calder, opposite Mandy Moore, who played the president's daughter, Anna Foster. The actor, who has also starred in other popular projects, like ADiscovery of Witches, The Good Wife, and Leap Year, made a rare public appearance for the UK special screening of the upcoming series, Dept. Q on May 27. For the red carpet event, held in London, England, Goode wore a grayish-green shirt underneath a black suit. Goode also sported a pair of black dress shoes. The actor opted to wear his dark hair in a voluminous style. Goode mentioned being uncomfortable in public settings during a December 2023 interview on The TODAY Show, while promoting his film Freud's Last Session. He said, "just because you work on camera doesn't mean that you actually like to" be the center of attention. He also said he would prefer to spend time with his three children, whom he shares with his wife Sophie Dymoke, than promoting his projects. "It's easier to play a part and the rest of the time, I just want to be at home with the kids," said Goode during the interview. During the interview, Goode spoke about co-starring with Anthony Hopkins while filming Freud's Last Session. He said he was excited to work with Hopkins, as the Academy-Award-winning actor has been his long-time idol. "My childhood hero is Tony Hopkins. So that was a massive draw," said Goode. Goode also said that Hopkins exceeded his expectations during their time together. According to Goode, Hopkins was friendly and had a relaxed demeanor. "He just came up to us and said, 'Call me Tony.' ... He was just a dream. And he's just full of energy and he's more engaged than he ever has been," said Goode during the interview on The TODAY Show.
