'I've read 35 books on my Kindle this year and you can get one for 25% off on Prime Day'
The Amazon Kindle has become my go-to device for hitting my reading goal this year. As someone who has always loved reading, I came up with the goal this year to see how many books I can read in 12 months. As we entered into July, I have managed to completely engross myself in 35 books, ranging from romance and fantasy to mystery novels. Now while this seems like a lot of books, the Amazon Kindle has been my go-to device throughout the year. Since receiving it as a Christmas gift back in 2021 - I think so I would stop filling my family home with an excessive amount of books - it has been within an arm's reach ever since. With a slimline design and access to thousands of books, the Amazon Kindle is a must-have device for anyone wanting to challenge themselves to read more and are looking for a compact way to do so. At the moment, shoppers can grab the cheapest edition for £71.24 in the Prime Day event, down from £94.99. Now don't get me wrong, I do love a paperback book, especially if it has sprayed edges. However, as I currently don't have the space for more physical books in my flat, reading books on my Kindle has become a handy alternative. The added bonus is that I only need to charge the device every couple of weeks, even when its being used continuously. For me at least, the Kindle has also become a cheaper alternative to traditional reading. With a variety of genres of books available on the Kindle store for readers to sink their teeth into, the vast majority of them retail at a cheaper price for a Kindle edition than they do for a paperback. While sometimes this can be a couple of pounds off - for example A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass is currently down from £9.99 to £2.99 for the Kindle Edition - other times Amazon hosts a sale on their top picks of the month which can let shoppers buy the book for only 99p. Some of the 99p July top picks include The Tenant by Frieda McFadden, Deep End by Ali Hazelwood, The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides and Mort by Terry Pratchett. Alternatively, for those who are frequent readers, Amazon also has a Kindle Unlimited feature that gives readers access to millions of books, thousands of audiobooks and some magazine subscriptions for free. Now it should be noted that this is through a subscription service, so shoppers will need to pay £9.49 per month. I personally have this feature as I can get through a few books a month that would end up costing upward of £25 if I bought them in store. However, for those who struggle to get through a book or two a month, this may not be the best option. For those who are wanting to try out Kindle Unlimited, Amazon is currently giving shoppers a 30-day free trial that can be cancelled at any time. However, readers need to be aware that once they cancel their subscription, all books they have read will disappear from their library. For those wanting to save money and space, a Kindle may be the perfect buy for you. And to make it a little bit easier, I have collated the top three Kindles on the market so you can find which one suits you best. Available in black and matcha green, shoppers can buy the lightest and most compact kindle for £71.24. Users will be able to read comfortably with a 6-inch glare-free screen, which also comes with an adjustable front light and a dark mode. This IS the device I currently own and I have spent many days sitting in the sun enjoying a new book without having to glare at the screen. I personally use the dark mode setting as this is more comfortable for my eyes, but shoppers can also choose to keep the device on light mode. With up to six weeks of battery life on a single charge, this device is the perfect companion to take with you on holiday and long haul flights. With a 4.5 star rating, one happy shopper said: "Got the green kindle and love it. It's so small which is handy as it's easily portable and fits in my handbag without talking up any extra space. It's really easy to set up with the mobile app, it took me like 5 minutes to connect it up. "The feel of the Kindle is really great, it's got a matte finish, which I absolutely love. Overall the Kindle is great as it's handy when trying to read on the go with the amount of books on it. I would highly recommend." However, another shopper said: "I find it difficult to find items in library. I very much prefer the way that my Kindle Paperwhite operates and shows the list of books I have as a list and not showing the cover." To buy the Amazon Kindle (16 GB), click HERE. In comparison to the cheaper model, this Paperwhite Kindle boasts a 7-inch display and can turn pages 25 per cent faster. With an ultra-thin design, shoppers can easily slip this device into their bag without taking up too much space. What's even better is that this device is said to boast a battery life of up to 12 weeks on a single charge. Users can also read their Kindle anywhere as it is both waterproof and worry-free. Whether you are sitting in a warm bath or by the pool on holiday, you won't need to worry about the device being damaged. Available in black, jade or raspberry, one delighted shopper said: "I'm absolutely in love with the All-new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16 GB! This e-reader has exceeded my expectations in every way. "The 6.8-inch display is bright and crisp, and the e-ink technology makes reading for hours feel just like reading a physical book. The adjustable warm light is a game-changer for late-night reading—it's so much easier on the eyes." However, one shopper grumbled: "This kindle paperwhite has a larger screen size than my series 7, but the surround is much narrower. Sadly, this means there's not much to hold on to & I move my fingers to ease cramp & oops the screen has changed or oops the font size has changed or oops my book has disappeared...... very irritating." Click HERE to buy the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB). Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (32 GB) For those who don't enjoy the black and white design of the other devices, this Colorsoft Kindle features covers and content in paper-like colour. If you enjoy highlighting your favourite parts of a novel, shoppers can now highlight in yellow, orange, blue and pink for added variety instead of it all looking the same. With a battery life of up to eight weeks, this Kindle can also get a power boost through a wireless charging dock. With an auto-adjusting light to suit your surroundings, Kindles also have the added bonus of not receiving constant notifications - fully allowing you to slip into a new world for an hour or two. One five-star reviewer said: "This is a beautiful Kindle. If you read on your Kindle a lot it is so worth it. The colours are very pretty, it's perfect hand size and easy to navigate. I absolutely love it and feel it's worth every considerable penny! The screen is brilliant in sunlight and the light quality is great for darker moments." While another shopper grumbled about the power button: "I just found a design flaw in the product, because the power button is on the bottom edge of the device, if you rest the device on a table while you read, you will end up setting a popup asking if you want to restart or turn off the device."
