Iced coffee a new trend in Oman
Muscat: As Oman experiences increasingly intense summer heat, with temperatures soaring to unprecedented levels, the demand for refreshing beverages has surged.
The recent weather reports indicate that many regions in Oman have recorded temperatures as high as 44.0°C, signalling a significant shift towards summer-like conditions much earlier than usual.
In response to these rising temperatures, iced coffee has emerged as a popular choice among consumers in Oman. Unlike traditional hot coffee, iced coffee offers a refreshing alternative that helps combat the oppressive heat while still delivering the beloved caffeine boost.
'As temperatures rise dramatically in Oman, iced coffee — especially cold brew — has become a new trend among consumers seeking refreshment and convenience during the hotter months,' a coffee shop attendant said.
The unique flavour profile of cold brew appeals to many consumers who prefer a milder taste without sacrificing quality or caffeine content.
'The appeal of iced coffee lies not only in its cooling properties but also in its versatility and flavour options, which can be tailored to individual preferences. Iced coffee not only gives you the taste of Omani coffee (Qahwa) but also quenches your thirst at the same time,' said Fuad al Farsi, a coffee lover.

Fatmah al Naamani, who cannot survive a day without making her own iced coffee at home, said cold brew coffee, in particular, has gained traction as a favoured variant within the iced coffee category. 'This method involves steeping coarsely ground coffee beans in cold water for an extended period — typically 12 hours or more — resulting in a smoother and less acidic beverage compared to hot-brewed coffee,' she said.
The rise of ready-to-drink coffee products is also noteworthy. In Oman and across the Middle East, there is a growing market for it that offer convenience for busy lifestyles. As urbanisation accelerates and consumer habits evolve, many individuals seek quick yet satisfying beverage options that fit their fast-paced routines. This trend aligns perfectly with the increasing popularity of iced coffee varieties, including cold brew.
Moreover, health-conscious consumers are gravitating towards beverages that offer functional benefits alongside refreshment. Many brands are now introducing iced coffees made with natural ingredients and reduced sugar content to cater to this demographic. Additionally, sustainability initiatives are becoming more prominent within the industry, with manufacturers focusing on eco-friendly packaging solutions that resonate with environmentally aware consumers.
As Oman continues to experience extreme heat, it is likely that iced coffee will solidify its place as a staple beverage choice among citizens and residents.
