Ian Machado Garry Says I Won't Accept Anything But a Title Fight
Staying relevant in the UFC's welterweight division takes more than just talent—it demands presence, momentum, and timing. Ian Machado Garry proved just that with a high-stakes win at UFC Kansas City, reminding fans and critics alike that he's still very much in the title picture. After suffering a defeat in his previous outing to the undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov, this latest performance helped silence doubters and reignite his climb toward the top. Machado Garry rebounded in decisive fashion, defeating Fighting Nerds teammate Carlos Prates in a closely contested five-round bout. The win marked a crucial turnaround after his setback against Rakhmonov. In a recent interview with Full Send MMA's Shawty Mac, Machado Garry made headlines—not for who he beat, but for what he demanded next. When asked, 'So realistically then, Belal wins. Will you accept any other fight than a title shot?' Machado Garry responded, 'No. I don't think I need to. I believe I'm the biggest name in the division. You know what I mean? Shavkat's injured. He's not going to be fighting this year. You know what I mean? I don't see anyone who's bigger or anyone who's more interesting to put on a pay-per-view main event and sell out a stadium. There is no one bigger.' Ian Machado GarryGetty Images As Machado Garry pointed out, Shavkat Rakhmonov is currently sidelined after tearing his MCL at UFC 310, removing one of the top contenders from the immediate title conversation. With that opportunity open, Machado Garry isn't wasting time. Just weeks removed from his most recent fight, he's already in Canada, prepared to weigh in as the backup for the UFC 304 main event between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena. For Ian Machado Garry, the mission is clear: title shot or nothing. He asked AI what his favourite food is and peanut M&Ms were the answer. So Garry brilliantly sent his two-year-old son Leo to gatecrash an interview and hand Della Maddalena a huge bag of the multi-coloured sweets. He saw the funny side as Leo held the bag aloft and said: "Gift for you." Zhang Mingyang calls out Jiri Prochzaka after UFC Kansas City finish of Anthony Smith
Zhang Mingyang calls out Jiri Prochzaka after UFC Kansas City finish of Anthony Smith Chinese light heavyweight has 12 straight first-round wins, three straight UFC bonuses. Zhang Mingyang is looking for a big step up in competition after UFC on ESPN 66. Mingyang (19-6 MMA, 3-0 UFC) scored yet another first-round TKO when he stopped Anthony Smith (37-22 MMA, 13-12 UFC) in Saturday's co-main event at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. With the rising light heavyweight continuing to make quick work of his opposition, Mingyang thinks it's time he aimed high. He called out former champion Jiri Prochazka (31-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who's coming off a knockout of fellow ex-champ Jamahal Hill at UFC 311. "Next fight, I want Jiri Prochazka," Mingyang told Full Send MMA after the win. "I watched your fight in Singapore, and you won your belt in that fight. I like your style. I respect your warrior spirit. Although you are not the champion anymore, I would like to fight you to test myself." Mingyang embraced the boos from the crowd after he spoiled Smith's retirement party. "Boo me again, let me hear that," Mingyang said in his post-fight octagon interview. "I know you don't know who I am, but if you don't know, now you know."

Dana White Sends Clear Message on New UFC 315 Stipulation
Who's looking forward to UFC 315? If you watched the spectacular UFC Fight Night Kansas City card on Saturday night, your interest might be piqued a bit more. Not only did the Kansas City card deliver action-packed MMA, we also got confirmation about the championship alternate for UFC 315 which is scheduled for May 10 in Montreal. In the main event of UFC 315, Belal Muhammad will defend his welterweight title against Jack Della Maddalena. In the event something should prevent either man from competing that night, UFC President Dana White confirmed the alternate while speaking to the media following UFC Kansas City. Getty White didn't mince words when he confirmed that Ian Machado Garry would be the backup fighter for the UFC 315 main event. After surviving a rough finish against Carlos Prates in the Kansas City headliner, Garry positioned himself perfectly to be on standby for a potential title shot. Garry called this out in the Octagon and repeated it in this video shared by Full Send MMA. He knew he would be the choice as an alternate. UFC fans, still buzzing from a card that featured brutal knockouts and standout performances, have even more reason to stay invested. The confirmation of Garry as the backup fighter adds an interesting wrinkle to the UFC 315 narrative. Whether or not he ultimately fights that night, knowing a young, undefeated contender like Garry could step in changes the stakes. The decision directly affects Garry, Muhammad, and Della Maddalena. Garry now must remain disciplined and ready, treating the next few weeks like he's in a full camp without actually knowing if he'll fight. Muhammad and Della Maddalena also know that if something goes wrong in training or during weight cuts, a highly motivated replacement is just a call away. Garry was in firm control over Prates through the first three rounds. However, the Brazilian came on strong in the fourth and especially the fifth round when he nearly had Garry out. Advertisement Heading into UFC Kansas City, there was already speculation that Garry might angle for a title shot. His victory, even though it wasn't flawless, kept his momentum intact and made the alternate spot a natural fit. White's announcement simply confirmed what many already suspected based on Garry's post-fight comments and demeanor. Looking ahead, Garry will heal up, recover, and make sure he doesn't allow himself to get out of shape. He'll weigh in on Friday, May 9, just in case he's called upon to step in for Muhammad or Della Maddalena. Whether he fights that night or not, Garry's proximity to a championship opportunity feels closer than ever before. If things break right, he could go from alternate to champion in a matter of hours. Colby Covington vows to end Paddy Pimblett's hype after UFC 314 altercation: 'He's never going to be champion'
Colby Covington confronted Paddy Pimblett during UFC 314. After Pimblett (23-3 MMA, 7-0 UFC) finished Michael Chandler in Saturday's co-headliner at Kaseya Center in Miami, he crossed paths with Covington backstage, and the pair went at it. Pimblett addressed his side of the story, where he accused Covington of trying to use his name to stay relevant. Covington (17-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) fired back. 'He's been loving to run my name through his mouth in the media,' Covington told Full Send MMA. 'He talks about me every chance he gets, so I just said, 'Hey, what's up, bro? Do you want to talk about me to my face right now? Say something now.' He has nothing to say. He had a mic in Vegas when I fought in the title fight and he didn't say sh*t. 'He sat there like a good little b*tch and didn't say sh*t. He didn't say his little sausage lines, that Ellen Degeneres-looking f*cking nerd. He had nothing to say. He was piped down like the little b*tch he is. I'm just sick of him running my name through his mouth. I'm going to confront you, and we're going to talk about it.' Although Pimblett is unbeaten in the UFC, Covington downplayed his resume. The former interim welterweight champion is on a two-fight losing skid, but argued his accolades have been far more impressive. He's willing to settle things with Pimblett, even though 'The Baddy' said he has bigger fish to fry. 'Let's talk about facts, though: The facts are that the combined losing streak of his last three opponents is a 13-fight losing streak,' Covington said. 'The guy's never going to get to a title fight, he's never going to be a champion, he's a f*cking bum. All he does is mumble sausages all day. That's all he can say. … He was on my undercard, by the way. I'm a real star. I'm not a gimmick like Paddy Pimblett. Oh yeah: 'I've got a stupid bowl cut, I've got an English accent and I look like Ellen Degeneres.' I'm not a gimmick. I'm a real fighter. I'm a real champion. 'I've f*cking been here, and I've done that. He hasn't done sh*t. He's fighting guys that are on massive losing streaks. Tony Ferguson, seven (or) eight-fight losing streak. Michael Chandler (three)-fight losing streak. the guy before that, I don't even know who he fought. He lost to a f*cking drug addict. Everybody knows he really lost to that drug addict, f*cking (Jared) Gordon that he fought. Everybody knows he's all hype, and I want to be the one who ends this hype. He keeps putting my name in his mouth, he's going to end up with my foot in his ass.'
