Anne Burrell's cause of death ruled a suicide

File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo July 24 (UPI) -- Anne Burrell's cause of death was determined to be a suicide. The Food Network television personality died June 17 after taking assorted antihistamines, alcohol and amphetamine. She was 55 years old. Her cause of death was "acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine and amphetamine" according to New York's office of the chief medical examiner, per the New York Times. Police say her body was found "in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills," that report continued. "Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother and friend," her family told People. "Her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is now longer with us, her warmth, spirit and boundless love remain eternal." Her death was mourned by several other big names in the food world, including Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro and Top Chef's Carla Hall. 'Mission: Impossible,' 'Dirty Harry' composer Lalo Schifrin dies
June 26 (UPI) -- Composer Lalo Schifrin died Thursday at age 93. Schifrin's son confirmed the news to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter. Variety also reports the cause of death as complications from pneumonia. Schifrin's film scores date back to 1957's Argentine film Venga e bailar el rock. Among his most famous scores are the Mission: Impossible theme, Bullitt, the Dirty Harry films, Enter the Dragon, Wait Until Dark and the Rush Hour trilogy. It was his scores for Cool Hand Luke, The Fox, Voyage of the Damned, The Amityville Horror and The Sting II as well as the song "People Alone" from The Competition that earned Schirin Oscar nominations. The Academy awarded him an Honorary Oscar in 2019. He also composed the scores to fan favorite films such as F/X, Money Talks, Black Moon Rising, Tank, and Class of 1984. Schifrin also won four Grammys out of 19 nominations. Ex-San Jose State football star Chandler Jones dies in highway crash
June 24 (UPI) -- Former San Jose State football star Chandler Jones died after being involved in a freeway accident in Los Angeles, the L.A. county medical examiner announced. He was 33. The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred when Jones was hit by a Toyota RAV4 on Monday on California State Route 90. The medical examiner said he died from blunt traumatic injuries. "Forever in our hearts, No. 89," the San Jose State football program wrote Monday on social media. "In loving memory of Spartan wide receiver and coach, Chandler Jones." Jones hauled in 79 catches for 1,356 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Spartans in 2013. when he led the Mountain West in yards per catch. He totaled 248 catches for 3,087 yards and 30 total touchdowns over 50 collegiate appearances. Jones, also known as "The Jet," starred at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrence, Calif., before his move to San Jose State. "It is with great sadness that we share the passing of alum, Chandler Jones '09," Bishop Montgomery High School wrote on Facebook. "Jones was a standout player on Bishop's football team and still holds the record for longest kick-off return (97 yards) and longest fumble recovery (98 yards)." Jones went on to play for the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squads, as well as for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. He also served as a coach for San Jose State, the College of Idaho and the Alouettes. "Our thoughts are with Chandler's family and loved ones as they navigate this incredibly difficult time," Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia said. "We extend our heartfelt condolences and offer them our full support." Food Network to honor Anne Burrell with programming block Wednesday

File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo June 23 (UPI) -- Food Network is honoring the late chef Anne Burrell with programming in her honor Wednesday. Burrell died Tuesday at her home in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was 55. The programming block kicks off at 10 p.m. EDT Wednesday with an encore episode of Guy's Grocery Games. In the episode titled "All-Stars and A-Lister Dinners" Burrell is among the chefs who have to whip up a lunch with ingredients determined by a bowling game. Food Network will then air an episode of Worst Cooks in America: Worst of the Worst and Worst Cooks in America: Boot Camp Diaries at 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. EDT, respectively. Warner Bros. Discovery head of food content, Betsy Ayala described Burrell as "a one-of-a-kind-talent" in a statement. "With these special programming events, we hope to honor Anne and celebrate her impact on Food Network and beyond, and to offer fans a way to remember her passion and culinary prowess that ran through everything she did," she said. In addition, Food Network will release the premiere episode of Worst Cooks in America: Talented and Terrible on July 28, featuring Burrell. According to an official synopsis, the upcoming season will focus on "professional performers ... used to stealing the spotlight, but in the kitchen, they are dishing out disasters." Gailard Sartain, actor known for 'Hee Haw,' dies at 78

Photo by Brett Sayles/ Pexels June 20 (UPI) -- Gailard Sartain, an actor who starred in Hee Haw and Fried Green Tomatoes, died Tuesday. He was 78. The Church Studio, an Oklahoma recording studio where Sartain's wife, Mary Jo, volunteers, announced his death Friday. Deadline said Sartain was battling an unspecified illness, but a specific cause of death was not shared. "I knew he wasn't in good health and hadn't been for a while," fellow Hee Haw alum Victoria Hallman told TMZ. "We always fool ourselves that people will hang on." In a tribute on Instagram, Church Studio said Sartain was "an extraordinary actor, artist and comedian." He began working on the variety show Hee Haw in 1972, and his other credits include Texas Ranger, Nashville, The Buddy Holly Story, The Outsiders, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Big Easy and The Hollywood Knights.
