Motsepe: Morocco Leads African Football

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has described Morocco as his 'second home' and said the country is playing an important role in the development of football across the African continent ahead of the Women's Futsal Africa Cup of Nations final today in Rabat. 'Now I am alongside my first vice-president, Fouzi Lekjaa, and this fills me with pride and honour,' Motsepe said in an interview with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). He explained that Lekjaa's appointment wasn't a coincidence but a result of serious thought. 'When I asked the CAF Executive Committee to choose five vice-presidents, many names were proposed, but I was determined to pick the best. I am confident I chose the right man, and I believe most football associations in Africa agree with me.' Motsepe was clearly impressed with Morocco's handling of the tournament and how the country approaches football as a whole. 'What we see clearly in Morocco is how His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the government, and the Moroccan people are united in advancing football.' The CAF chief also said he's looking forward to the next women's tournament in Morocco and believes the country will do well hosting the next men's Africa Cup of Nations. 'It will be a special day, and we will keep working to face the challenges ahead, starting with the Women's Africa Cup of Nations and the biggest event – the upcoming men's AFCON in Morocco, which will be a grand celebration of African football.' Motsepe added that he was proud of how the continent is developing young talent and believes African football is entering a new phase. 'Africa is entering a new era of football – one that unites nations and strengthens ties between countries,' he stressed. The CAF president arrived at Rabat-Salé Airport on Tuesday to attend the final between Morocco and Tanzania at the Prince Moulay Abdellah indoor arena at 8 p.m. Moroccan time. Women's Futsal AFCON / Group B: Angola More Clinical Than Guinea

The opening match of the inaugural Women's Futsal Africa Cup of Nations saw Angola come out top with an impressive 5-2 victory over Guinea in Rabat, Morocco. Right from kick-off, both sides made their intentions clear. Angola's high press caught Guinea's still-settling defence off guard, and it took just seconds for Joyce to break the deadlock (1st minute), capping off a blistering start. But the Syli Féminin quickly responded in the 6th minute, as Soumah capitalised on a lightning-quick counterattack to level the score (1–1). Angola Take Control The rest of the first half swung in favour of the Palancas Negras. In the 12th minute, Lurdinha restored Angola's lead with a pinpoint free kick. Just two minutes later, mounting pressure saw Guinea falter again as Bangoura unintentionally turned the ball into her own net (14th minute, 3–1). The momentum was fully with Angola, and Guinea struggled to respond effectively. After the break, Mame Fatoumata Baldé's team adjusted their positioning and tightened their defence. Their efforts paid off when Bangoura, making up for her earlier mishap, scored to reduce the deficit (3–2). Hope was reignited for the Syli Féminin, but the closing minutes once again belonged to Angola. Joyce netted her second of the match in the 37th minute, and Djamila sealed the win just a minute later (38th minute, 5–2). With this convincing victory, Angola temporarily tops the group after the opening day of the competition. Their next fixture is on Thursday against Egypt, a match that could confirm their place in the next round. Guinea, on the other hand, will have to beat the Pharaohs on 26 April to keep their hopes alive in this tightly contested group.
